How dead does Yu-Gi-Oh need to get until it's dead enough that something needs to change?

Dead enough to stop being profitable.
At which point the change will likely just be to cancel the game.

Be prepared to be told you just need to read the text and learn the rules as if the art doesn't suck now and 95% of the player base quit

There's a reason that they've started trying to peddle stuff like Rush Duels, you know.

Some of the typical problems with games with long lives aside (like power creep), Yu-Gi-Oh suffers from having had to figure out its identity along the way. There's a swath of things that don't work well about it due to growing pains that would be hard to just clear away or do over without it bothering some fans.

No they'll tell you it was always like this and the meta is healthy and that the people who still play are TOTALLY NOT playing for anime waifu circlejerk combos but because the game is more INTERACTIVE now than ever!!

Never. Yugioh is a CIA plot to keep the brightest minds of the black community engaged in wasting their own time and energy. It’s funded to keep the black community down.

I don't think it will ever change, which is a shame because the mechanics are solid, but utterly ruined by terrible card design

The only identity that ever worked was the way the game was played in the manga (Battle city only)

It's a dead man walking, even with Master Duel. It's just so hostile to new players, and unfriendly to just cracking packs with friends because of how decks just don't work without the archetype pieces.

It's just based on momentum, and there's a lot left to milk. However, it's like a MOBA in that the complexity creep is fine if you got in early, but it's like punching yourself in the dick repeatedly if you try to get in now as it caters to a diminishing set of Yugiboomers that came in 10 years ago. Fucking players by bumping rarity doesn't help. The Advanced Format combines the worst aspects of set rotation and an eternal format.

If another company got the rights to make their own tcg for yugioh, who would do it best?

The Japan side for a modest improvement. The OCG is much less retarded and greedy, and uses bullet point and numbers for abilities

Maybe the guys behind Pokemon? I feel like they're the best so far about stewarding their game as a game. We know what Wizards would do: EDH. I'm not super happy with EDH, so I don't think Wizards would do a great job.
