Post Street Samurais. Low tech, high tech, magic tech, pure skill, bio tech skin jobs, doesn't matter. Discuss street samurai PC's you've made and played. Bad ass moments, fuck ups, and challenges to playing a warrior in the dark and twisted future of the 1980's.

This is a session with the serial numbers filed off for reasons of privacy, but I played a large Street Samurai detective. Guy had a bunch of nasty infiltration body mods and internal weapons. Only problem was with the system itself. It didn't do melee very well or "tank" builds. So, he got hurt more often he probably should've given his stats and skills. But, was still a very fun play style I'll do again given the chance.

There are three major systems that support Street Samurais.
>Gurps
>Shadowrun
>Cyberpunk
Each one of these has problems and advantages over the other systems. With different editions playing up and down some of the issues. For example Shadowrun supports low tech options long withe emphasizing gun options, however more exotic possibilities and melee get the short straw in terms of balance. Gurps provides an option for truly exotic and strange options, perhaps too many. Cyberpunk gives more options, but is distinctly lacing in the supernatural given the metaplot doesn't support it, and even Cyberpunk's hard to find supernatural supplements don't really go into enough depth to add much to the "magic" Street Samurai. Shadowrun also suffers from conflict between the hacker and driver classes demanding specialized implants, somewhat gimping the potential of your Street Samurai beyond simple combat/infiltration roles.

I have never had any luck playing street sams. All of them have ended up sitting in the car as a contingency plan while the face and the party sniper finish the job

One of the best characters I ever played was a street samurai/infiltrator for a play-by-post Shadowrun 5E game. She was the result of me throwing Lady Snowblood, O-Ren Ishii and Sadako into a mental blender and feeding the concoction to my inner edgelord: a spooky, brooding, katana-wielding martial artist with a lust for revenge. I regret not being able to give the character a satisfying conclusion, since I ended up leaving the game rather prematurely. Still, good times with lots of killing and sneaky-sneaking were had.

Because the term street samurai comes from a character in a cyberpunk story who is trying to explain their philosophy, but their knowledge of history is lacking because the Education System failed them.

Also, alliteration is fun.

That's not as pizza cutter, note the spikes on the wheel. That's one of a pair of spurs.

When she took them off her boots she had to put them somewhere.

So it's like some street punk who's sole education about the Japanese feudal system is watching chanbara movies and assuming that the ronin protagonists represented samurai at large?

>It's street slang. Doesn't need to make sense.
Anon, the phrase has an easily-attributable origin point that some people don't seem to be aware of. It also does make sense within the context of its original use. Don't be silly.
