Powercreap has ruined my game! Last few years were bad.. but shit is now "YuGiOh the Gathering".

My plaay group is banning anything after The Lost Caverns of Ixalan.

Seems arbitrary unless MKM really nettled you. Really anything from WAR onward is cancer.

With the nosedive the game took since FIRE, and now that they have 40K, doctor who, final fantasy and soon spiderman; if you haven't stopped playing this shit game by now you deserve everything they're doing to you

Nah, still not as bad as Throne of Eldraine. And Duskmourn was the good shit anyway. Sometimes there'll be bad sets, just deal with it. I tolerated fucking Mirrodin.

Duskmourn had SOME really cool looking monsters, but it's severely dragged down by the "haha, it's just like a shitty 80s horror movie, get it???" bullshit

At this point, YuGiOh the Gathering could potentially be a better state because that would mean they would at least be printing cards that can deal with what others make.

People meme on Yu-Gi-Oh with images like >>96058007 , but the displayed board is firmly "went through 50 games to get this one screenshot at low rank". I can easily think of dozens of ways to stop it and a hundred ways to break its board which would immediately lose them the game because of zero followup.

Hell, that screenshot doesn't even show any of the counters I'm pretty sure it should if they were there! And the combined four lines of text that can do something significant on your turn are all offline without those.

You can hate YuGiOh powercreep, but at least when you look at a yugioh game you only see yugioh cards, and not spiderman fighting lara croft and optimus prime. Also agressive reprints

This. I love the doll designs and razorkins but then the goofy highschoolers in multi colored bomber jackets make it miserable to look at. Even worse that it feels like the art director told each artist different things. Why do the survivors look like 80's horror movie protagonists, and why is there a chainsaw equipment card when Unstoppable Slasher looks like an Innistrad card? It would have been shittier, but going 80's for the whole set would have at least been less of a mess.

Yugioh is starting to lose its identity to Sky Strikers and Master Duel. The recent edison changes they tried to impose were directly tied to trying to get people from MD to the paper game. Whats worse is they're actively trying to find a "Yugi Moto" for the new game and have yet to get anything other than Sky striker manga and anime shorts to take hold across the board.

You mean that Rush Duels spinoff? I thought it was made because their anime team rioted over the idea after Vrains and the whole "blocking the extra deck to force Link monsters" thing revealed how strenuous it is to write under modern conditions.

I'm not taking the piss. The 80s set had 80s styled horror movie survivors, whoop de doo. If anything it's a breath of fresh air to have a set that has the balls to commit to all the genre shit after the flop of Karlov (that couldn't decide what detective fiction it wanted to be) and OTJ (that refused to be a western entirely)
My only complaint was that the Survivors don't look beat up and haggard enough. They should look like they've been through hell, full of bandages and scratches.

Sky Strikers were released over 7 years ago. They weren't the trigger of the shift to having the already existing card lore being revealed. That was firmly Branded that got a critical mass. Their choice of Striker for the first manga was because it was a storyline that was not ongoing, standalone so could be made short if things didn't work out, and had retained some degree of popularity as a rogue deck.

The attempt at Time Wizard changes that were walked back were far more influenced by them not wanting to spend money to train judges on old rulings, especially with them not having figured out a way to make much money on the static card pool.

There was no riot after VRAINS. Studio Gallop functionally collapsed which is also why the last part of that show was rushed heavily. They had to get a new Studio entirely, and the new guys had to basically start from 0, so they went with a new thing.

And even that's gone to hell because of Takahashi's death because it's been said he played a major role in conceptualizing new anime, unlike what people assumed of him dropping off circa ZeXal, and no one has had the confidence to take up the torch for the standard type. The Card Lore anime has been a bit of an out for them

You cannot deny the fact that Sky Strikers are getting abnormal preferred treatment in the game with Alternate arts, multiple manga adaptations, PVC figures, and direct support, albeit non-game changing, trickling throughout the years. Yes, Branded also triggered it, but Sky Strikers have been treated like a golden egg for the past 5 years by the OCG and the TCG has began to do the same.
Also, from what we know about onboarding from an ex Konami emplyee interview, MD is one of the best chances they have to onboard new players and they wanted to find a bridge from MD to the current game. Same goes for Edison to the current meta. They wanted all 3 to be under the same umbrella and MD using current game boards for their Time Wizard events and rulings shows this. The judge reasoning doesnt work because, as a former Judge, first off, all of them are volunteers, and most of, if not 90% are 30+ years old, myself including. Most of them were either around for the formats or have worked with enough older players and judges to know how the interactions work. On top of this, the amount of alternate formats online, from Goat, to Fire/Water, Hat, Tengu and Edison also give newer players and judges to the Time Wizard format myriad ways to learn and properly judge each format.

I dont think they're going to do anything with Rush Duels. They've missed their window of opportunity twice now to make a meaningful impact with an introduction and let it rot on Duel Links.
Very fucking sad.

I guess Pokemon players are the only ones not getting totally screwed, except by the scalpers. But they do reprint staples into the ground and keep the cost of competitive play down.

>Alternate arts
Every popular archetype gets these. Or are you insisting that Eldlich is getting an abnormal amount of attention as well?
>multiple manga adaptations
What the fuck are you talking about? It has a singular manga adaptation.
>PVC figures
Along with everything else that was featured in Animation Chronicles, yes
>and direct support
That's how promos work, yeah. They got support because of OCG Stories just like Magistus and its adjacent archetypes are also getting, and like Branded are getting support due to Animation Chronicle (treatment which is extending to pretty much everything featured in AC, with Solfachord coming up in a few months). What point are you trying to make here?
