Next step is people who don't even get their lore at all. Just make shit up and refuse to listen to anyone else.

Making shit up is bad, but you don't need lore to play the game.

I only ever use lore as a way to stop That Guys from rolling up with their "lost lost son of [insert important lore character] who's half-angel and half-werewolf, has fifty girlfriends and knows the ancient art of swordmastery from nippon" and thinking they can argue their way into making me accept it.

That and my original tactic of telling them "Sure, that can be their backstory, but only if they really made it all the hell up and are just normal people from the countryside looking for mercenary work" normally didn't go over well.

Wikis are infinitely above videos in terms of information acquisition because it’s self-guided. Someone who has picked up an IP’s lore from wiki-crawling will have parts that they’re obviously more interested in and will know more about those things, but video-droolers will only be aware of what a specific “content creator” has decided would drive engagement.

Reject not the wiki-crawler, for their knowledge will be merely incomplete at worst. But the video-watcher will believe that the interpretations and theories of their chosen poison are canon.

At this point we should really just look down on anyone who knows warhammer lore that isn't from a meme.

I think this affecting a lot of other IPs badly especially on the /tg/ side. Warhammer was the catalyst for it

their shit takes a hit from the algo and is less likely to be recommended to others whose user profile resembles yours
but you also have to curate your viewed videos. if you watch a bunch of unrelated shit and 'don't recc' GW videos, it won't hit as hard as if you watch a bunch of miniatures/wargame/TTRPG related content and hit 'em with the don't recommend.

They're still bad

Also bad

Also bad

This isn't some kind of obsessive book series, it's a background setting you're supposed to twist and turn for your little miniature soldiers. Loretard nogamers get the bullet. Also, Fantasy is way better.

Fantasy is no better since it has plenty of youtube short and lore videos for it. If anything Age of Sigmar content is not lucrative whatsoever on social media

Before TikTok, zoomers just read memes and thought they were actual lore, then went around doing "for da emperor" and refused to explore any other faction's POV while pretending they were a lore expert.

wikis have always been fine because you have access to the sources. maybe faggots are used to 1d4chan and get their nuts in a twist about it but, sarna is exceptional for tracking down every bit character without having to waddle through 405 technical readouts and splatbooks over 50 years.

Lexanium likewise is a lot fucking easier to learn about the weapon systems of the imperuim then digging through 50 years of splatbooks.
then you can take those citations and go to the books.
it's the purpose of the wiki.

This. Old /tg/ would be able to make something like Angry Marines and remain tongue in cheek about it. Nu-/tg/ would just bitch at each other for deviating from canon and having fun wrong.

This. Wikis are there to help you focus the things you read or look for.

why is this a bad thing? 40k's lore is retarded. The body of literature written to describe the setting is just album cover art for the games.

honestly, having to deal with people who only get their lore from youtubers/tiktok was the final straw for me.
now in my TTRPG games I refuse to use 'established' settings, relying purely on my own homebrew setting that I have been slowly working on more and more for the last 4 or so years.

They're like rungs on a latter. I'm not going to pretend that my first exposure to any big TTRPG's lore wasn't through a wiki when I was 16. But eventually I wanted to know more and went to the books. The loretuber fag is going to go to the wiki and then the books. The tiktokers are going to the videos and then the books. We are creating Plato's cave but then digging deeper. This is true of all facets of culture and it won't stop until we take action against the one's pushing it, and I don't mean the content shill.
