Discussing world building or design with strangers who aren't familiar with your project is another way to spend time without actually working on your project. The same is true for people who circle jerk here instead of working on their campaign or game.

That being said, discord is great for people who are coordinating or playing games, especially games that aren't cooperative. A D&D player can function just fine without tips and tricks (and often times players become unbearable after too much internet), but pvp games like Magic or Warhammer it can be a great boon to talk with experienced players about how to spend your 60 cards or 1500 points.
Fuck Discord and fuck Reddit for gobbling up forums though. Discord being a walled garden and Reddit being an everything-in-one-forum has caused forum culture to take a massive hit.
