>>96086945 (OP)What the fuck anon, I went back to my parents place today to celebrate a relatives birthday and going through my old room I found that book (and jam) on my bookshelf and I haven’t read it in years. Like I saw it on the shelf just a couple of minutes ago, thought about it and then sat down to check the 4chins and saw this. Creepy…
There's like six people who read this book and half of them are in this thread.
>>96086945 (OP)Why? I mean I like his reviews but that doesn't translate to "interesting novel writer." Judging by the cover it's selling itself as the kind of tongue in cheek book where all the names are halfassed puns. Like a knight turned twist villain named Sir Prise. That wouldn't ruin RPGs, but make me better appreciate the effort going into them.
>>96091880It's also more of a pastiche of MMORPGs (the book was written at the end of WoW's cultural peak) so it wouldn't affect TTRPG's if it had any affect at all.
Are you telling me this faggot started the LitRPG menace?
>>96086945 (OP)Why is tg so low iq? This is a book about mmorpgs you twat
>>96091886Yeah everyone who played back then remembers classics like sir cumference or sir loin (we don't talk about sir cumcision though)
>>96086957I started listening to that audiobook just last week and I got pretty surprised too.
Started as in it is narrated by Yahtzee and even when he is doing other things than whine about video games it sounds like he is whining about video games. Is the story any good? the OP makes me think it might not be very good.
>>96086945 (OP)You are the first person I have ever seen mention Yahtzee's books other than himself. you okay man?
I met yahtzee at a bar in brisbane and drunkenly proceeded to tell him that I tried to pirate his book but I couldnt find it anywhere.
>>96095576I remember not really enjoying it back in the day but I enjoyed Jam a lot. Been years since I read either though.
Quick plot summary from what I remember:
Generic fantasy world, protagonist is a wizard apprentice who died and was resuurected decades later when the world becomes an MMO. Plot is him trying to undo the world becoming an MMO and reset world to before he died. Features a fantasy hamlet dealing with unionizing gnolls who want more company meal vouchers per 'death', people suffering identity death when they become 'PCs', and lots of 'why MMO's don't make sense logically when viewed within their own framework'. He doesn't kiss the girl at the end, but does set up a sequel that never happens.
>>96091880>but that doesn't translate to "interesting novel writerI hated his "will save galaxy for food" book. And his game looks boring.
Being able to shit-talk things entertainingly does not make you a good writer.
>>96099923>And his game looks boring.Which one? He's made quite a few. The newest one looks shit but the horror rogue like was good.
>>96097309Based pirate anon
How did he take it? Just stare at you and stammer out an excuse to leave?
>>96091880>>96086945 (OP)All of Yahtzee's books that I've read are the same. But I actually like them.
>Mogworld: Three NPCs try to figure out how to die. One is a straight man, one is a girl, one is crazy (it's all a trick).>Jam: Three people try to figure out how to not die. One is a straight man, one is a girl, one is an emotionless CIA hitman (it's all a trick).>Differently Morphous: Two government bureaucrats have to solve interdimensional immigration. One is a straight man girl, one is crazy (it's all a trick).I think his character interactions are enjoyable and he sets things up for payoffs satisfyingly. Jam is probably his better work because what it has to say about "doing things ironically". I was not a fan of Existentially Challenged because I feel he tried to include too many characters and got away from what he was good at.
