Minor xenos empires didn't have enough warp influence to fuck the whole galaxy over like the imperium did and you sure as hell don't hear about jokaero falling to the taint of the blood god. I'm saying that the premise that "chaos is the imperium's fault" doesn't match the actual text, especially since the Warp existed ages before humanity ever did. Most of its current big-name agents are the Daemon Primarchs to have as a proper "evil" counterpart to the already nasty Imperium, and from a meta perspective of course you're going to build up one of the biggest rivals to humanity to have a human face. But fluff makes it clear the Imperium didn't destabilize the warp into the way it is today, it was already a shitshow ages before the chaos marines squatted their fat asses in it.

40k fans that are neither especially new nor especially old - the middle children of the fandom, essentially - have a Napoleon complex about 40k being the wargame that's seen as adolescent and overrated, which just comes with the territory of its popularity and other older wargames being about actual wars that actually mattered. Technically if any one group is primarily at fault for the Warp being the way it is, it's the Old Ones for fucking up the universe in the first place. The Immaterium always existed, but it was a relatively calm place. It wasn't "the Warp" until they activated their fuck-everything-forever device during the War in Heaven.
