At this point a good AAA game or movie could bring back Shadowrun back. A new edition would potentially work only for those that stuck with the game using older editions while the rest moved on and found new systems to play, so we need new blood.

Neither are ever happening due to the rights issues, and besides that if you've looked the direction Shadowrun went in during 6e it's a nonstarter. The only way you're getting new blood is by running games yourself and recruiting your friends.

Digitigrade "Kid Stealth" cyberlegs or a liminal centaur body. Hydraulic jacks will also help. Make sure to pump up Strength and Agility and take Athletics or just Running as high as possible. To that last end, Life Module chargen can get you to a base skill of Running, or even the entirety of Athletics, at 7, though picking the necessary modules for that might distort whatever background you had in mind. If you didn't have anything in mind... free background, just add a bit of narrative connective tissue?

Nah, it works out. Back in the day when the SRG was a regular thing and people handed out over 9000pencils as well as explosive burner commlinks, somebody built it out. not sure if it had the centaur body but it had both cyberware and magic for some truly insane speed.

Time to take that Mr. Johnson or Fixer life module.

(Holy shit were some 5e life modules borked to hell. 6e managed better, but good luck convincing established SR fans on that.)

That wasn't directly 6e's fault. It was a combination of a hostile schizo who hated anime OPs and a general burnout from people who couldn't manage a game to save their life.

To be fair Shadowrun is one of the hardest fucking systems to manage in my opinion. I've been trying to run it and I still can't remember half the rule set. I'm doing a simple encounter Sunday to try and shake off the rust so maybe that'll help

You need to read, read, read the books for everything. Arguably more importantly is making sure your players have the right mindset. Absolutely never try to manage everything on your own, that's a one way ticket to burning out and failing. Shadowrun functions best when you have a table of GMs. Failing that, what you have to do is teach them to look up what they're doing instead of asking you to adjucate everything. Ask them to explain their own abilities. If they can't do that then they default to running, hiding, or shooting. The system is not that hard to run for once you've wrapped your head around it. The worst part is managing burnout from brainlets who refuse to learn.

Would you almost argue that Shadowrun is post cyberpunk in a lot of ways? You still got the issue of SINless being second class citizens at best, zombie aids and low living high tech aesthetics, but with magic helping a few things along, it still seems a better setting for the average guy than cyberpunk

4e has shades of it because they stepped out of the 80s-envisioned future and everything was now wireless, with no more brick-like cyberdecks. But then everyone missed the 80s in it, so he brick-like cyberdecks came back.

Anything involving magic would have been there since day one, and it doesn't really make it post-cyberpunk. It just makes it weird, since the cyberpunk stuff just leaks over, except on metaplanes with metaphorical impositions like most of the sub-adventures in Harlequin's Back, like the one where all your cyberlimbs and wired reflexes turn into magical clockworks that you have to crank and have limited usage times.

I have been trying to play it solo and getting started is so much harder than just, for example, playing PF2e or whatever other system.
For starters you need Chummer to get a character going. I hear that some people actually make characters without Chummer, with pen and paper, but I do not know how to unlock such forbidden knowledge.
The second issue I face is that, even when running a single encounter, I have to start whipping out one book after another and looking up rules for so many things, because so many things can happen. Maybe this is an issue I have due to the way I play my sessions, but a simple encounter can either go the smooth talk way, the gun blazing way (Including drones and vehicles here), the magic way, or the hacking way. If am just limiting myself to mundane, low-level, gun totting hood rats without bothering with any of the magic stuff, then why am I playing SR? Shouldn't I just play Cyberpunk?

I can play any other crunchy system solo just fine, but SR hits that crunch point where you have to keep track of so much, and need so many resources sprawled around you, that just starting a session becomes a daunting task and I end up thinking "Lemme just use the couple hours I have to finish a random ass quest in any other system I play instead".

Again, maybe it's just a skill issue from my part. Maybe I just need to learn how to make a character without needing Chummer for starters.

Shadowrun is a system where you really, really need a table of GMs. Players need to know what they're doing. Otherwise you get this problem where you overwhelm yourself.

To be honest a good SR game would be a massive hit with /v/.
Elf office ladies, the mandatory catgirl changeling, big orc/troll musclemommies, and if it's as moddable as Skyrim then you would see degeneracy the kinds of which mankind has never imagined.
It just has to be a good game with a budget done by someone competent, all are a far reach in modern day development, but still, this could be such a hit.
Sadly, Shadowrun isn't a name anyone is willing to invest a lot of money in.

Sure it can. It just costs a lot of nuyen to get back your Essence via aura therapy, if you're the one getting drained. Just make sure they stay away from the Ordo Maximus and don't drain other HMHVV-positive folks, because that'll get them taken over by whatever purple junk the OM is inviting into the world by feeding a cocktail of ghoul, vampire, nosferatu and other infected parts to ghouls.

But Astarion is only one of the characters that people are big into. Plenty of Shadowheart and Karlach-alikes. Want Lae'zel? Just go hopping the metaplanes. And no one cares if you look like you have a cephalopod for a head.

I'd say "don't look like an insect no matter what", but BG3 didn't have a thri-kreen in it, so it's probably not a big concern for them.
