I've been playing in W&G for about five sessions and I think I prefer it over the old FFG systems. It's much more conducive to high-octane action and being bad-asses; so if you're looking for grim and grittiness, you probably want to stick with FFG.

NTA; but unlike the old FFG lines, W&G is not geared towards a particular type of campaign. There are options for Imperium characters from hive scum to inquisitors, as well as options for Orks and Eldar.
Though technically a homebrew fan supplement, there's a PDF called Abundance of Apocrypha which was written by one of the original developers and seems to be well-regarded and often used by players. It has more options for all of the above plus Tau, Dark Eldar, and Chaos.

One player selects a Rogue Trader and the rest select various Human archetypes (not xenos, they're icky!). Then you go to the approved Koronus Expanse, fight approved xenos and heretic forces, collect approved treasures, watch your stock market number go up, and at GM-determined stock market number you declare the game complete, patting yourselves on the back for nailing the approved 40k themes.

Rolled 6 + 1 (1d10 + 1)
Fuck it. Rogue Trader ship battles time. You have 150 Ship Points to assemble a task force. Archeotech is permitted only via the Reliquary of Mars ship history, which must be rolled for. You may choose not to roll for a ship history. Machine Spirit oddities will not be used, background packages are not permitted. Battle will use Mathhammer rules. For Crew Rating, roll a d6 - 1 is 40, 2-3 is 50, 4-5 is 60, 6 is 70. For simplification, shipboard actions will be resolved with the rules for NPC starships from BFK p.114, including those regarding morale and crew population (double Crew Rating's bonus to these calculations).
I'm not an attack craft guru so if you start using that you'd better damned well have the rules on lockdown, with page number references.
If you want special torps, roll for 'em, fucko. You get a single acquisition test against PF 80, each success is one volley for one ship. Remember the malus from rarity, dipshits, you're not getting six volleys of Vortex no matter how godlike your rolls.
I'll get to working on my flagship while I wait to see if there's any interest.

Just steal Eisenhorn and file off the serial numbers if you're doing multiple inquisitors rather than a single group of acolytes. You're all investigating X chaos cults and they run into this noble house a few steps up the chain and end up bumbling into each other. They co-operate, they manage to luck out and catch the House out, the House is actually a front for a radical phaenonite inquisitor a step up. To get to the Inquisitor you need to do something vaguely radical-ish (Not something like the Pontius, that'd give the game away) but some sort of infiltration or sneaky thing to get X artefact that'll reveal what the House was up to for this inquisitor. When they get it they manage to kill the house and an army group or two, only the inquisitor to start fucking with them at a distance. To clear their names - or start unfucking their networks - they have to find this guy. In finding him it's a goddamned mess, and offer them a few shortcuts in exchange for a little bit of corruption. Maybe just ask that daemon that knows everything instead of banish it. Finally set it aside and kill the radical. At this point bring back something from the campaign to fuck with them that they gave into temptation about - the daemon has taken an interest in them, a cultist they let go is burning worlds in their name, whatever.

My GM didn't like it either, hence our recent switch to W&G.
He did do something roundaboutly similar when it came to Lore skills pertaining to xenos. There was a penalty to anything xenos related (Linguistics to understand, Medicae to provide aid, Tech Use to understand their technology, etc.); and that penalty could only be mitigated by actual ranks in the appropriate lore skill.

NTA, it seems to have an absolutely slashed writing team that also seems to be making wild balance changes. They had a space marine book a while ago with psychic powers that were straight upgrades on corebook powers. And then some of them were specifically restricted to their OC chapter. The corebook powers kinda sucked, but they didn't seem to have considered how to update them or how to add stuff in and the whole thing was riddled with errors. They probably just didn't have the time.

We did it because we were walking into a huge crowd of Emperor fanatics. If he wasn't an obvious voidborn mutie, he could have passed as a pilgrim like the others. The cogboy even removed all his mechadendrites.
But then he might have been pinged as a psyker by the mind rapist woman. Either was it was the right choice because him using far sight again got him watching the past events, specifically the ones where the 15yo nodiffed Tsyiak.
>Future becomes past becomes present.
At first he saw an empty and abandoned settlement, now he sees it during the middle of the events 35 years ago. My new schizo theory is that we mind end up time traveled during the eventual fight.
Which would be really fucking cool, but the issue is reporting that later when mission is over.

Man live in cubicle, no work, only numbers, no danger, only walls, shit lookout, weak and frail.
Want to emulate life that made them strong? expensive. costly. requires constant monitoring so you don't lose return on investment. at that point you may as well just go to the places that are already harsh and skim from there, which is what they already do.
And, to build on what

Over the past few months I have read every major 40k rpg rulebook from cover to cover. I have decided that I prefer Dark Heresy and Imperium Maledictum over Wrath&Glory for various reasons, but the main one would be I prefer minutia, percentile dice, and having rules for everything over the "story comes first" broad strokes approach that W&G takes. I also generally prefer low power things like guardsmen and imperial acolytes over stuff like space marines and eldar. Dark Heresy really clicks with what I personally enjoy about 40k but my impression is that Imperium Maledictum is very much the "spiritual successor" to Dark heresy, since it not only uses the same percentile system, but also has high lethality which I liked about Dark Heresy, and is generally lower power level like Dark Hersey was.
What would be the best way to actually play, now that I know the rules, and which games I'm most interested in? My local store is pretty small and doesn't have much of an rpg scene, so it would likely be online. I have roll20, tabletop simulator, fantasy grounds, and most of the popular online digital roleplaying programs, but I haven't looked into the 40k scene for any of these, I've mostly only played dnd 5e, dnd 3.x, and pathfinder on those.

A lot of stuff in codices, magazines, and campaign books is poorly edited filler material written by interns, and even when the more experienced GW writers are involved, they often push their own headcanons and powerwank, which makes making even rough estimates on numbers for non-marine factions impossible

To make a clone in 40k you must split the soul, clones without don't really work well and blanks that survive are comparatively rare. The clone becomes a vessel for that incomplete soul or doesn't have one at all, with all that entails.
This is entirely based on reading between the lines on all the lore of Krieg though, that the reason the Vitae Wombs are so heretical is the same reason the DKoK are atoning, and the same reason for their ultimate secret and never removing the masks. That the process of creating more soldiers is destroying the very essential soul of Jurten one piece at a time and if they do not hurry it up there will be nothing left of him to stand at the Emprah's side.

NTA, just some asshole that digs in rulebooks for lore goodies to use for my own purposes, I have also seen the allusion that there's more craftworlders than deldar, but because they're all isolated it's like comparing the entire world population of Neanderthals at their height to the earliest European homo sapiens in the same area, they lived together and traded between tribes, so if it had ever come right down to it, a war between these groups would favor the unified, however small, over the separated.
Now, I have also heard about the Harlequins having their own huge fuckass space so I can also see deldar getting their own huge fuckass space and I would ultimately assume it was like Necron tesseracts, that that universe city exists but not where it actually matters, if you get to the place where they keep it that is significantly smaller you can destroy it. Not cannon, just my internal marriage of writer bullshittery.

WHF started to die when they stopped updating it, and then around 8th edition they went "lol let's make it like 40k" and started editing the lore. And when that didn't work and it was nothing but deathstars and people kept playing old editions instead of buying the shit sculpts, they went "okay, let's kill it with this end times campaign" and cheated so their super special oc's would win. And then there's the current shitfight that is TOW vs AOS.
And it's almost like they're starting to do it with warhammer. "Sales are falling! Why? I don't know! Let's make it more like.. uh, warhammer fantasy!". Yes I know squats were already a thing but they didn't quite have the full 'dwarf experience'.

What system? If it's 1e, check out the radical's handbook and the heretek savant for some tech updates. There's a tech-disruptor somewhere in 1e, I believe, that's basically a blank for technology.
That said: Ideally, straight up sorcery and theme it technologically in game. If you must have psyker powers directly, telepathy and call it tapping into the universal datastream, but nothing is really tech-y for psyker powers in most editions.

1- Opponent moves 2d6" in any direction and is immune to the power for the rest of the game.
2- -1I, -1" move/charge
3- Pass -1LD test or abort any actions they take next turn
4-Spend a full turn not moving, shooting or assaulting they fire one less shot than they should on all attacks, lose +1A for pistol or close combat in assault
5- -1 WS/BS/LD for the next turn.
6- Target falls back, 2d6 hits equal to the unit's average strength.
Blackest Night - 24" range, gives a friendly unit a 5+ cover save or +1 to those with a cover save

Is there a character builder for Rogue Trader?
Need some ideas for a dark heresy campaign. The players, as acolytes, would need to infiltrate the palace/bunker of a rich noble which made no public appearance in decades and known for collecting sacred religious art from across the sector. After defeating automated defense systems, they find the noble dead. He shot himself while restoring a painting. The art below, which is ancient, and most probably genuine, hints at a terrible, heretical, secret.
This is where I'm looking for inspiration: I was thinking like a proof that big E is posterior to the DAOT, or that it's horus that is sitting on the throne and keeping the emperor at bay. I'm not sure about those ideas.
I would need something that would tempt some of the players to uncover the secret and put themselves where out of curiosity they are seen as 100% heretical while more orthodox one would think of it as a danger. Something that could be true while you can't really exclude the idea that it's ruinous power at work, trying to sow confusion in men's minds.

I started running a Deathwatch game myself, and have in my spare time been creating homebrew for my players. Here's one of the custom Chapters I made to give them an option (they all have shit fellowship, so might as well keep them comfortable). Keep in mind I have used ChatGPT to help make this, as I have found it to be fairly competent, but I still want some good critizism as it should be as balanced as Space Marines can be. And to the point I made above, we have a Flesh Tearers Apothecary, an Iron Hands Techmarine, a Blood Ravens Librarian, and a Blackshield (Black Templars) Assault Marine.

There isn't, but there is a ship builder.
>>96157005
You can throw a red herring at them with the Ateanists which was my first thought with your post. Basically scholars and artists eventually discover the Eris Transform which makes an artwork far closer to perfect and also does warpy stuff, ranging from soul-delivered heroin to localised warp storms to "surprise you're a daemonhost!". Even better, throw it in a wing that's labelled condemned so they think this guy discovered it, realised the threat and threw it off.
The Tower of Babel exists in 40k, and it echoes through time and reality. You could have a series of paintings that, when put together, show the entire thing before it came down. And make it so that under some circumstances it shows a fragment of the Horus Heresy and the 'true' history.
The builder, the man at the very top, the man facing the sky and shaking his fist? Not the Emperor. If the final painting has a secondary vision, have it be Horus on the throne facing off against sky emperor and the tower the battered Imperium. Have something that definitely isn't a daemonhost that manifests to give them screamed warnings and clues when enough of the paintings are together. Something that the causes Imperial statues to bleed and warp when manifest, but leaves humans completely unharmed. Could be a daemon, could be a dead human god, could be a bit of warp trickery, could be the original builder, could just be a single really well informed human soul. Maybe it's something from that time that still exists in the echoes and it's trying to warn them about Big E. Hell, Enuncia's a bit of a weird topic but you could read the Ravenor books to pick up the enemy who does things with sacred architecture and Enuncia.

Party has one alien: Typical Rogue Trader party
Party has two aliens: Suspected xenophile
Party has three or more aliens: Heretical, purge in fire.
Issue being that if the GM doesn't put the kibosh on xenos, the whole damned party might decide to play one in search of muh super special OC donut steel. Mono-race nonhuman parties could work, but severely lack critical supporting infrastructure.

In-depth careers, at all. Starships and components. Equipment variety.
Say you want to play as eldar corsairs. You don't have a career for that at all, they only made dark eldar. You find some homebrew for it. You don't have a hull for it either, though, nor equipment. You snag one of the NPC ships from Koronus and resign yourself to the knowledge that you'll never be able to customize it. Now it's time to equip your guy. You have one eldar powersword, one set of paired eldar power swords, one razorwire injector, one shuriken weapon per size category, one lasblaster, one fusion rifle, a psychic spear and a force weapon equivalent. You have a plasma grenade and a monofilament grenade. You have one forcefield, and you may be able to dig up some kind of armor, somewhere. Everything else is for dark eldar, good luck with that unless you want to become one.
Contrast with the legions of imperial weapon and equipment choices a Rogue Trader has available. Is it fun for your choices to be constrained to the bare minimum converted from the tabletop?
Essentially, if you want to do this and have fun with it, you're going to make your GM write up half the fucking game all over again, because it wasn't designed for anything outside of playing an actual rogue trader - and playing a rogue trader means you're either human, or you've tricked the universe into thinking you are.

They are, arguably, balls of warp stuff that Big E tricked into thinking they were human. It Depends.
The Marine gains the memories of that specific bioform, and is also horrifically poisoned, because they tend to melt into acid on death.
They have a literal suit of Custodes warplate. Figure it out.
Orks have spores. If you plant a mushroom, it grows. Nids dissolve into acid. This is bad for your soil.
Your average civvie is lucky if they live long enough to learn how humans are made. Why in the flintstone fuck would they be privy to the secrets of biologically engineering superhumans?

Orks are mushrooms and like in the real world, they can absolutely be used as fertilizer if they are sufficiently dead and cleansed of spores beforehand. The spores are hardy, but we're not talking about some sort of super virus here, the orks work primarily on sheer quantity. Anyone remotely familiar with orks is likely familiar with the process, as you want to be cleansing ork spores anyway.

>What do the Tau do for entertainment?
Depends on the sept. All T'au are fanatically devoted to the Greater Good (for their race), but it isn't unified at all. Then you have the castes that further divide them.
The earth caste does all the grunt work, but also builds beautiful cities and does all the research. The fire caste is the most likely to spend time doing sports and disciplined samurai hobbies. Water caste is all about people so they have the most parties, I'd assume. Air caste is literally chair force, and they're even more fucked up physically than the Imperium's voidborn.
I don't think they would allow videogames to exist, other than training simulations. It is of no use to the Greater Good. Any media is heavily policed, or it wouldn't be the T'au.
>Why don't the Craft World Eldar go to war and wipe out the Dark Eldar?
Eldar see themselves as the superior race in a galaxy infested by inferiors. They are not enemies most of the time, but the galaxy is a big place and the toy soldiers fight sometimes.

There's a quote somewhere from a space marine that explained it straight. Chapters need to fill in a lot of roles. Some Marines need to excel on specialized weapons or vehicles. Some need to obey orders, others need to command. Some will do thankless tasks, others will kill just for the renown. You don't get that with clone*1000.
>>96144621
I'm pretty sure that the Marines would notice they have different geneseed and that could affect cohesion.

I'm sorry but if you read the rules and never played them, your opinion doesn't count. You'll know what I mean when you experience a campaign.

>Something that could be true while you can't really exclude the idea that it's ruinous power at work, trying to sow confusion in men's minds.
It's easier to call important local history into question than galactic/setting history due to all the meta-knowledge players have about the latter. An example from the FFG Calixis setting would be something that call the nature and loyalty of Saint Drusus into question (maybe something portraying him as a psyker or an ally of Xenos). Something critical to the world/subsector/sector history will be much easier for you to make players as well as characters seriously doubt. Such matters will also be more widely known and more important to the faith and loyalty of local people and also easier for NPCs to question. It's important that the doubts lead to a real need for further investigation by implying some lingering danger, otherwise coverup will be too obvious a solution. The truth doesn't really matter to the Inquisition, after all - just protection of the Imperium.

You don't even need a tall ceiling, since you can make gravity point at the wall and pancake them instantly because W&G has a pretty long round time.

>I'm afraid that player won't really care if the stakes aren't higher.
>I also don't expect my players to be that knowledgeable about the setting.
If your players don't have a lot of setting knowledge then things about the broader setting you could reveal through a painting probably aren't going to work well anyway. The "big E is an Age of Strife genetic construct" thing is a good example. It's going to take a lot of explanation and setting knowledge to justify that even mattering to anyone. I'm actually not sure it even contradicts anything about the Imperial Creed - they don't know or care where the Emperor came from, just what he did afterward. The biggest problem is that setting-level stuff is just too easy to dismiss. A painting that depicts heretical beliefs is just a painting - there's no reason for it to make people question deeply held beliefs. Shallower beliefs are easier targets (though you still need to give people a reason it matters). If you really need big setting level challenges, then have it hint at the Imperial Truth somehow (hard to do with a painting).
Suggestion: The nobleman who killed himself over the painting is a major political figure - a keystone of the whole region's power structure. Planetary governor of a major world, or even a subsector or sector lord. He killed himself because of the painting is super important to his lineage and his family's right to rule. It's a famous work from the establishment of the sector that shows the original coronation. The picture underneath shows the founder and all his subordinates were actually Chaos worshipers or something. Also, make them question the suicide - maybe the guy's relatives or heirs had him killed for fear of what he discovered. Revelation could plunge the region into a giant civil war (either causing the faithful to rebel or provoking the other corrupted nobles to do so). Planets and regions are big stakes, and keeping things local makes it easier to hold a story together.

As in, they march around and look hot and smart in parades. Yes, the Imperium does give them excellent equipment and that does count for something. Worst case they are just retarded women with weapons.

You roll to see if there's a hull for sale. You roll to acquire the hull. You get the hull. Nothing is ever said anywhere about getting components, so the hull's useless.
You roll to locate each individual Essential Component. If you fail, fuck you. If you succeed, you roll to acquire each individual component. If you fail, fuck you.
Don't forget the -30 for any component involving War. Because not just fuck you, but turbo ultra mega fuck you. Yes, this means that the most basic possible macrobattery is a -30 to acquire. Yes, it means that the lousiest lance in space is a minimum of a -40 to acquire, as is the most basic munitorium. Quite essentially, my friend, if you want to build a halfway decent spaceship outside of character creation, you must either spend ludicrous amounts of wealth, or you must have a very good friend of an Admiral.
If you're a GM and you're asking for your players, be kind - fully equip its essential components, and throw in a weapon system or two as well. Even just Jovian missiles. If they manage to buy a currently-functional ship, just tally up its total SP and make it a lump sum.

I would like for you to elaborate on why handing them a ship that they cannot use seems like a good idea.
Do you intend for a spare gellar field to be very easily purchasable, or do you intend to give them a ship that doesn't work?
This is forgivable if you want it as a plot hook, but only barely.

Partially because I don't want to be a complete cunt and say no ships, so making it difficult enough that they won't try and create a fleet of 500 jerichos. And partially so there's a reason that the ship is still available in the expanse which appears to be approximately 95% rogue traders by volume. And to pad things out a bit because I am a hack. Find out what's wrong with the ship they just bought if they don't get it out in negotiations, find a fix. Similar to how finding a drifting hulk might be - a quick check to see if it can be salvaged, and if so, what's needed to get it moving to drydock.
A standard gellar field is probably not terribly uncommon, though I'm mostly using it as an example. Damaged weapons, leaking life support, the crew are tau who are absolutely convinced that they're masters of stealth, whatever.

Okay, so not gellar field specifically, just some reason for the ship to not have already been snapped up. Well, the Breaking Yards are full of old and drifting hulls, the vast majority of which are being pulled apart for anything salvageable, so there's your glut of hulls and a slightly scantier supply of components for them. Many individuals go there to purchase hulls, and many more hulls are actively being processed at a time. That is, I'd presume, where the initial test to locate your hull of choice would be made - depending on degrees of success, it can likely be said to have been stripped bare, have a few components (some damaged), have all essential components (quality varies) or have a great many components (likely a good bit of battle damage).
It's already a very onerous task to purchase and equip even a single Jericho, so I wouldn't worry about players assembling an enormous fleet - over the course of a two year game, I only obtained three new ships. One was a Carrack I scored in the first session by virtue of boarding action, the second was a refurbished heavy cruiser I traded an STC shard for, and the third was a Mass Conveyor I paid out the nose for. I never even got to do anything with the latter two.
If you still want a game of 'find the rust spots', I can't fault you for that, but it absolutely should not involve an essential component in a way that impedes the ship's ability to function as a ship. Give it a snotling infection, or a leftover cargo which is unidentified and extremely unpleasant, or make it a trade vessel from some other dynasty which went 'mysteriously' missing a few decades back (or which they're only claiming went missing, because you've gone and refurbished their old junker and now it's profitable to own again).

What kind of people/situations do daemons avoid? Khorn demons seek out powerful opponents so would they leave a pacifist alone? Do Slaanesh daemons avoid people who are deaf/blind?
Do we have lore evidence of what rules daemons follow for who they will and will not engage?

No.
"Khorne cares not from who the blood flows". Daemons generally leave the Tau alone, lore wise, but only because they don't really get anything from it. Tiny little acrid souls. And even then they'll grab them if they're nearby. A Slaaneshi daemon might actually enjoy a blindie. Imagine if the only thing you could see, blind from birth, was a daemonette dancing. You'd have no analogue for what sight was, no way to really relate it to your normal experience. You don't even have that eigengrau space behind the eyes most of us do when they're shut, no infinite void. You'd just this thing dancing in an out-of-context sense you have never had.
Lore question. Hypothetically, if someone in the imperium were to make -through either sheer genius or a psyker ability that interacts with tech- a power armor model thats either
>even better than what space marines chapter masters use, practically iron man level
>worse than what the marines use but its so easy to make that one could outfit decent chunks of the imperial guard without too much drama
then how high up the chain of command or nobility would that person need to be to not get deleted and looted by the mechanicus and maybe the inquisition too?

It's tech-heresy. They die.
Then, coincidentally, the forgeworld which carried out this punitive action independently discovers an item of 'archaeotech' which bears a striking resemblance to that pattern of armor. Truly a miracle of the Dark Age of Technology.

>Partially because I don't want to be a complete cunt and say no ships, so making it difficult enough that they won't try and create a fleet of 500 jerichos.
I have a suggestion for this. House rule that adding a ship to your fleet requires completing an Endeavor rather than just making a bunch of Acquisitions. Scale the Endeavor by hull size and/or details of what they're looking for. The Endeavor will general consist of locating a ship of the type they want, arranging to gain ownership, and repairing or outfitting the ship to have the parts they want. This could vary from a negotiation to purchase a ship from a Chartist Guild by helping the guild with a Xenos problem, to contacting with the Navy to hunt down a notorious pirate wjho happens to fly a ship of the type you want. Acquisitions may be involved, but aren't the main issue. This gives you a very controllable way to allow players to expand their fleets, and the time involved puts limits on just how many ships they can realistically get.

That's part of the point. You make in-game ship acquisition less of a gamble while also making it more time-consuming rather than just reducing the difficulty or number of Acquisition tests to obtain the hull and parts.

Endeavors are a half-baked attempted gamification of accomplishing various tasks that isn't comprehensive enough to make use of exclusively, but is just present enough to gum up the works of anything a GM tries to do. They boil down to "The GM and the players work together to figure out what they're going to do, and then the players do that", but with numbers involved to make ship components pretend they matter.
If you want to build a trade route, you look for a demand you can supply, schmooze some guys to get permits, and schmooze some chartist captains into signing on. The GM has to set that up, and the players have to do it. With Endeavors involved, all of those same steps are still there, except now you need a certain number of points to accomplish each task, which are awarded arbitrarily by the GM, so they don't fucking matter. "Oh, I did all the work but fell short by a single point" well what the fuck else is there to do, then? Bribe or blackmail an official? Perform a hostile takeover on a small shipping company? Whatever you choose, you're still going to have to invent that shit by hand.
Achievement Points don't even work as a fun bonus thing to give your players more profit factor at the end of an 'endeavor', they're too easily gamed. As evidence I submit the Polaris-class MegaYacht, a Universe-class Mass Conveyor loaded to the gills with Luxury Passenger Quarters and crewed by servitors to remove morale as a concern. That motherfucker is capable of generating between three and four thousand Achievement Points to Trade, Creed, and Crime, and every hundred AP you have spare translates directly to one additional Profit Factor. Congratulations, you complete a single voyage and you ascend halfway up the scale of 'richest man in space'. Two voyages and it doesn't matter where you started, you're richer than Winterscale.
In summation, they're not enough ruleswise to depend on, and they're just enough ruleswise to make problems.

You have some valid complaints about the way they work. Regarding the ship acquisition thing, the idea still makes sense if you just call it an "Adventure" instead of an "Endeavor" and run it the way you like.
Regarding Endeavors themselves, I do think the basic idea behind structuring Rogue Trader adventures around scoring Achievement Points and using that to determine bonuses at the end has value, but you're right about RAW. When running games, I reverse the way AP work at the Objective level. You don't complete an Objective by reaching an AP threshold, you gain AP by completing an Objective. There's a base amount granted for Objective completion, with chances for gaining or losing AP in various ways. Ship Components can provide extra if used to help with the Objective (I did drop the part about "themes"). Win the Endeavor and you get the default PF for winning. Exceed the Endeavor's total AP requirement and you can gain 1 extra PF per 100 AP. This does need some limits to extra PF accumulation (maybe restrict it to double base reward), but works pretty well.

Hey anons, got a question.
I'm looking into playing Wrath and Glory as a solo rpg, but I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to play it with only one playable character, or should I just bite the bullet and build a team?
Playing a single character would invariably mess with battle initiative seeing as how it' would go Me > NPC > Me > NPC etc but I can resolve that problem later. The plan is to start play as a Crimson Fists Scout who's gonna work his way up to his Black Carapace at which point I'll level up to Astartes then eventually level up to Primaris (reluctantly) as the game goes on.
Input would be appreciated if anyone else has done something like this before.

Depends on your favors, pull, and ability to bullshit. On paper, it's Tech-Heresy. Realistically, Tech-Heresy means nothing and is used mostly to get rid of rivals and upstarts. High-ranking Tech-Priests have innovated plenty of times and covered up what they've actually done through fabricating claims that they were just 'rediscovering' something or using their position to protect themselves from immediate retribution. Inquisitors and Rogue Traders also tend to be gray areas since the former, on paper, only answer to the Emperor and effectively speak on his behalf while the latter have the Warrant.
Now, how high up you would need to be is more a question of how well you can keep your mouth shut and stop attention being drawn to your arsenal. The Imperium is a big, BIG place, and what we're shown is ultimately a fraction of it. Realistically, 'Iron Man level' power armor wouldn't be that impressive, offering more fluidity and mobility at the expense of protection and strength compared to more common patterns. It would be the sort of thing valued by nobility or Inquisitors who keep a healthy social network around them, the sort who attend galas and political parties frequently. Inquisitors, Rogue Traders, and even a few high-ranking nobles wouldn't have much issue holding onto something like that unless they openly flaunted something like that in front of a Tech-Priest with the age and data to recognize that what they are looking at is an unidentified pattern or potentially missing technology - at which point their interest would skyrocket and lead to invasive questioning at the very best. And if they start asking questions, you better be able to produce some very solid bullshit reports or pray word never gets back to a member of the Mechanicus who feels like trying to flex their dick on the Imperium.
If you wanted Iron Man-ish power armor, I would recommend BQ Praetor Armour, add a Grav Chute, add mag boots, and +1 Unnatural SB.

Plus, like I said, even if I did buy both of those, I'm the least threatening character when it comes to combat. My Biologis has been relegated to the party's skill mule since my friends both went with cracked combat builds that suck up all their experience - a Frenzy-spamming WS god and an Inescapable-spamming sniper, respectively.
For reference and comparison, my character is a Chirurgeon, and I went with Unarmed Specialist. Probably a bit of pity involved there, too.

I actually liked DH1e, I get why it got changed to be in line with the other mechanics but the fact that it was a d10 dice pool system while everything else was a d100 roll-under actually mechanically gave the idea of taking reality (d10s) and literally warping them in a way non-psykers just couldn't (changing from roll-under to dice pool).
I also wasn't a fan of later iterations of d100 psykers having pushing make the casting harder, the methods of PR = bonus to Focus Power Tests incentivized pushing so not-pushing was an actual direct choice you were making.

There is the shira/arbite one where the inner circle of a dead Rogue Trader try to inject his DNA into a lackey to be eligible to be the new Rogue Trader (but actually just be a powerless figurehead while they continue running things), meanwhile a merchant faction tries to bully the Rogue Trader's actual son to put forth a claim and become their puppet leader to get them control of both the warrant and the fleet. Also the local religious leaders try to get control of the warrant and turn it into a relic because it is signed by the Emperor himself

You'd want to check out the warhammer fantasy thread for details, but someone dropped by once and laid out their editing process and it boiled down to something like "one guy with no real quality checks to stitch it all together and it runs through someone else who adds in internet-appropriate diversity", where one or two of these people may or may not actually touch the work itself pretty much at random.

Newfag here, question for any of you that played Rogue Trader TTRPG and video game, story & character-wise how much stuff in the game is actually from the TTRPG adventures. I know Owlcat's pathfinder games heavily followed the adventure paths, curious about rogue trader.
Wondering what could we be in for in Dark Hereesy if Owlcat did indeed follow premade adventures.

Pretty much nothing, the video game only even really uses a few things specific from the Koronus Expanse that were detailed in the TTRPG books and pretty much nothing from any of the published adventures, heck the Necrons were never even stated in RT, they first showed up in Deathwatch and later Black Crusade. Truth be told it was one of my minor complaints about the video game, I wished they used some of the unique areas or things in the Koronus Expanse a little more.
This is why Dark Heresy is going to be interesting because it is unclear how much of already written stuff for the Calixis Sector they are going to use cause one of DH's adventure sets is somewhat focused on the Tyrant Star, and a good chunk of stuff has been written about it across the books, plus the fact that the trailer narrator/inquisitor shown off is a known inquisitor from the books, Lord Inquisitor Anton Zerbe Head of the Tyrantine Cabal, means they are at least using some existing lore. I doubt they are going to base it on any of the adventure modules, though my personal hope is they pull at least some stuff from them, and I kind of hope they don't give us an explicit answer on what the Tyrant Star is cause that was one of the appeals of it as a plot point, and I know that will make people mad.

I found myself incredibly disappointed in the CRPG. Rogue Trader is near and dear to my heart, and it's meant to be a glorious blend of Crusader Kings, Anno 1800, Ultimate Admiral, Total War, and Tomb Raider, all wrapped up in the East Indies Company in SPACE.
What we got was not only so thoroughly on rails that I could swear I saw a classily dressed scoundrel tying someone to the tracks, but all but spat on the concept of the Expanse as a whole. Cutting out all but two rival Dynasties was unforgivable, and adding the C'tan in the first place was a bridge too far. A Rogue Trader who finds a C'tan either fucks off immediately and vortex bombs it from orbit, or fucking dies. You are not the chosen one, you do not have special protagonist privileges. You have money and you have your life, and if you want to keep either, you have got to be smart about things.
I'm not sure if I should add any more stuff or shrink what I've already got so I can add more stuff, I know these nebulas are huge as they currently are
Meant to be a Rogue Tradery expanse for colonising and plundering, with representation from every race (though I'm not sure how I'm going to justify Tau being here)
Maybe the lack of planet icons is fucking with my perspective

Put it in the Eastern Fringe.
If you're worried about fitting stuff in, just downscale the size of your icons a bit - not even a lot, just by a third, maybe. I'd consider a single square 3x2 of those tiny grid blocks to be about the size of one working unit, and then putting stuff two to three of such units away from each other, maybe as many as four. It really depends on how much you want to cram in there - is this about sector-sized, or subsector?

Depending on how many sectors you intend to fit on the map, you need enough to provide variety, but not so many that it becomes cluttered. My preference is between 10-20 planets for each sector, unified by a common design theme/constraint, and each with at least one interesting/weird fact about them. Space stations and void facilities should also be considered. The only thing I would suggest is daemon/chaos worlds should be near warp storms that sustain them if possible.

>How often are minor xenos encountered by the imperial explorator fleets?
Pretty commonly since the 40K universe is fairly lifeform-rich. Finding ruins is likely even more common since it is also pretty harsh.
>Are they always culled or left alone if considered too weak/primitive/peaceful to kill immediately?
This is entirely situational. It will depend on who finds them and under what circumstances. The Imperium generally wants to eliminate Xenos, but exploration is mostly done by Rogue Traders or Mechanicus Explorators, who both often have other higher-priority goals unless the Xenos cause trouble for them. Rogue Traders may see minor Xenos as a good opportunity for business, or at least resupply.
>Are there planets where Imperial citizens live beside xenos?
Peaceful and cooperative coexistence with Xenos is extremely illegal in almost all cases. Only Rogue Traders and those acting under their authority are exempt (and maybe Inquisitors, because they can do what they want). You might find cases of Rogue Trader dynasty outposts doing this, but any significant colony will inevitably be absorbed and formally incorporated into the Imperium. There might be Imperial worlds with hidden Xenos populations lurking in the wilderness, or cases in which weird Xenos are too difficult to entirely wipe out or something (like persistent Ork infestations).
>I know there are sanctioned xenos like the jokaero but how rare are those cases?
Extremely rare to the point that most people have never heard of it. Jokaero mostly get a pass because they aren't clearly sentient (no form of language), and are regarded more as animals with a weird technological affinity.

I do remember owlcat put out a survey earlier this year I think where it asked what kind of things would you like to see added as dlc/patchs for Rogue Trader I assume to gauge what people were interested in. It had a variety of stuff you could vote for and I distinctly remember seeing options to select the various minor xenos like rak'gol and yu'vath, as well as locations unique to the expanse like processional of the damned and undred-undred teef. If they were limited to just models I doubt they would have put some of those options in there but who knows, maybe they weren't sure if they could or thought that people that only knew 40k basics would get confused by some of this stuff.
God do I wish for them to inflict rak'gol on people who don't know anything about the TTRPG.

Again, it depends on context and would vary a lot. Rogue Traders are allowed to deal with Xenos, so they probably shouldn't do much unless they're crazy zealots (possible in either case, but not universal). Not everyone is going to be happy about a Xenos being around, but if they're legalistic types they may feel they have to put up with it if it is done by the book. This mostly means if it happens outside of formally incorporated imperial territory (where Rogue Traders have huge leeway) or if the Xenos is officially sanctioned (or expected to become so in the near future). Your could probably argue that a Rogue Trader keeping an unsanctioned Xenos on board his ship within the Imperium is a gray area, and people often ignore Rogue Traders bending the rules in general because Rogue Traders are supposed to do that sort of thing (and most people aren't familiar enough with the details of those rules to call them out on it).

For a more complete answer, the slipstream drive is the Tau's newer iteration on their warp tech, seemingly just doubling down and really pushing the limits of their shallow dives without navigators. The problem is that in a classic propaganda move, the Tau decided to activate a bunch of them all at once in a grand ceremony against the engineer's advice, which blew open a giant wormhole and exposed the entire fleet to the Warp nearly unprotected as it transited. The wormhole itself seems to be fairly stable, but the fleet that went through was scattered and the survivors are pretty traumatized. The drives do not work by opening permanent wormholes, they just did in this one accident. No word on if they can do it on purpose.

Yeah, but is the entire city populated? Or does it have massive under-populated areas, like private palaces belonging rich Archons that are the size of Jupiter?
And also, isn't there a whole thing where time and space in parts of the city are/can become messed up? If that's the case, then there may be parts several million miles in diameter that are actually only a couple of miles... and also viceversa.

Because it's close enough to monkey for the joke to land, but also it sounds like some arrogant, up themselves, posh cunt trying to pronounce monkey in a fancy way.
Like there's an English sitcom from the early 90s called 'Keeping Up Appearances' about a middle class woman, from lower class background, trying to push her way into the upper class. Her last name is 'Bucket', but she pronounces it as "Bouquet" to try and make herself sound posh.

Putting aside the amount of grotesque sexual favours one would need to perform to get a GM to agree to give your party one of these, how would you stat a Tiamat-class Destroyer in Rogue Trader?
