System is DnD 5E because that's what my group plays. TLDR of character's backstory is that she learned magic from books until her master was about to use her in a ritual to summon an eldrich god to obtain power, but she killed him and got sucked into the ritual, ending up in Barovia as a warlock, eventually dying to the three hags in the windmill in a flour explosion. (Previous campaign)

Now in this new one, after she somehow returned to the mortal plane, albeit lacking her powers (now and Eldrich Knight Fighter) she's been helping the party to find the bad evil lady throwing around necromancy and stuff, we've already fought a ton of her minions and hordes of undead and are now at level 15; basically a few sessions from actually fighting her and ending the campaign.

After delivering a shipment of clerics to help with a town infected by plague by a certain someone, she wanders about, trying to find a Broom of Flying for sale. She already has one such broom of her own, but our party's barbarian has already killed like three horses by this point, so she wanted to just give him one so the party would stop losing money buying replacement horses.

She walks into a broom emporium and asks the shopkeep if he has any brooms like hers. He smiles and says he has brooms that can 'go up and down', so naturally she buys one at a steal of just one silver piece. When asked for a demonstration, the shopkeep leads her outside, mutters a magic phrase and tosses the broom like a javelin; it lands with a surprising softness and took barely any damage. So, she decides to buy all 10 that he has in stock.

Now, our barbarian thinks it's an obvious scam, and to prove it takes one and hurls it with all his strength, the thing going like 60ft before landing. Surprisingly, the broom lands intact, with no damage that couldn't be taken care of with some polish. Enraged, he throws it again, some 90ft before accidentally hitting someone.

This is a level 15 Barbarian, when enraged his effective STR is well over 20 at this point plus he rolls pretty high, so tossing what is the equivalent of a javelin should do at a bare minimum about 15 damage (though if we consider it an improvised weapon it could be as low as 6 I suppose) but this commoner mf just gets up and shakes his fist at him.

So from now on I refer to them as 'Brooms of Feather Falling' and half are stored in our party's bag of holding while the rest are tied to the original Broom of Flying in the hope that some of this magic will rub off on them to make more.

She has also been trying to copy the runes on the original broom onto the new ones. No success so far, but she has done enough that one of the setting's gods appeared to her in a dream as if to say she's gained their attention.

Just wanted to share this happening.
If some youtube tts bot reads this, nigger nigger nigger.

if the Maid can be bothered to spend feat on Magic Initiate (Wizard) for Floating Disk, you can use the brooms to turn 490 pounds worth of party members into Fallschirmjäger

Holy shit, I need to look at that.
Our party has an actual wizard though, I say he ought to take that one, or just buy a scroll to transcribe it, given it's a 1st level spell it will be cheap as chips for us to buy.

It take a bit of setup though, Disk stays fixed distance above ground, to go further up, you need to keep it that fixed distance above ground, which is usally done casting the Disk and tying bucket of soil underneath to keep it "grounded".

That makes no sense though, according to the spell it remains 3ft above the ground and can move up and down a maximum of 10ft, so it can go up steps but not cross a pit.

It makes no sense as 'the ground' would refer to the actual ground, or something like a fixed floor above it, or at a stretch any solid structure affixed to the ground.

It makes no sense that a bucket of dirt tied beneath it would do anything.

I hope so too, because she paid roughly 10x markup on the regular cost of a broom.

To be fair it might just be a very well-made set of brooms. This whole affair wasn't agreed in advance with the DM or anything.

I does make sense in the context of D&D rules, where traditional physics don't apply, all falls are either instant or take exactly 6 seconds regardless of height, and so on.
