>Previous Thread:>>96139607>Thread Question:Which army do you want to start next? Why?
When savage orcs get their models it’ll be them. Or maybe dogs of war. I dunno.
Cathay. I don't care what the bitching faggots around here say, I like how they look and like the Sentinel models and really want to get Meow because she was my favorite lord in Total Warhammer 3.
>>96151608 (OP)Tomb Chads for sure
>>96151616Cathay is pretty cool. The entire range looks great I just don't like how big the balloon is.
>>96151608 (OP)>TQI'm gonna start VC. What do you guys think of these as zombies?
>>96151638They don’t fit. Too Bloodborne. I dunno how to describe it, but it’d be better at home in Aos than fantasy battle.
>>96151660>it’d be better at home in AosAoS is even less dark fantasy than whfb so that doesn't make sense.
>>96151616Honestly it's the lore rape and powercreep but i think most of us agree the model range is pretty cool, if not decent for GW.
>TQEmpire. Fun range, good alternative model options, plenty of ways to play. Thinking of them after wood elves
>>96151673Whfb isn't dark fantasy lol
>>96151673I dunno I see them and I think of that flesh eater courts army. Souls like? I dunno. Some fromslop.
>>96151608 (OP)I like the OP's pic. They look flavourful
>>96151608 (OP)>Which army do you want to start nextI'm torn.
Goblins look fun.
But also I feel like I could do empire ez.
But also VC.
But maybe Beastmen/cultists.
>>96151687High fantasy with some dark tones, whatever. My point is that AoS has even less of that.
>>96151638I think they'd fit better if you drilled out eye sockets for them.
>>96151718I feel you big time. Indecision paralysis from too many choices.
>>96151687Chorfs, Beastmen, and Dark Elves are pretty fucking firmly dark fantasy, Empire is grimderp, Bretonnia is noblebright mixed with the grimderpest mudcore nonsense
>>96151818>chorfsThey’re dwarves so it’s hard to take them seriously at all
>beastmen even with the rape they’re jobbers. Also it’s hard to take them seriously knowing they’re bound to show up anytime only for the real big bad to replace them.
>dark elves Yeah they have women in power so that’s actually kinda scary. They also do rape in a much more effective manner than beastmen. This one gets the pass.
>>96151608 (OP)I have my hands full on beastmen and some lizardmen I bought second hand (lots of paint striping) so no new armies for a while. Maybe Empire or helves next.
>>96151608 (OP)have my hands full with cathay atm.
propably will add a few empire units to my collection if the cathay/empire soup AoI looks fun.
>>96151638They'd fit perfectly fine in a Necrarch army. Makes sense to me that they would conduct an experiment that involves removing the eyes of an entire village for whatever reason. Other bloodlines could all have reasons to do this imho, except for blood dragons.
>>96152040The only thing Necrarchs are capable of doing is shitting themselves and going insane. Maybe instead of working to further Nagashs plan they should work on finding a cure for being massive fags.

They're cool as fuck and the box of an amazing deal.
I read somewhere that the old elf Hellebron became a worshiper of the god Khorne during the end times. Is this true or false?
>>96152221doesn't seem so, but she did go blood crazy
have I had a stroke, or did they already put out a dwarf slayer army of infamy? hence the Ungrim model and the gobbo-hewer
>>96152318it was so shit they decided to give it another go
>>96152325It’s dwarves. I genuinely don’t know how you make them good in a way that’s not NPE for the other guy. Don’t know why they bothered
Which army is violent only because of their socioeconomic conditions
>>96152333Dwarves, unironically.
>>96152318nope, one was the royal clan, the other was the expeditionary force
I guess they couldn't make a slayers-focused army of infamy because they wanted the two main AoI of the faction's basic journal to have mostly plastic troops
metal troops are absurdly overpriced, practically a trap for collectors more than an offer for players, and they know it
which means that either the armies of infamy of these campaign books are allowed to focus on less feasible parts of the army, or they have a kit of plastic slayers to be revealed closer to the release of the book and they showed the kang kits because they're on the cover art
But I highly doubt the latter
>>96152331expeditionary force with engineer sappers with Rune of Concussive Force plays like a mix of gyro spam and gunline and it's fun
>>96152333U.S., RUSSIA, CHINA AND VENEZUELA.
Painting some chaos warriors and I think the boots are the only part I'm not satisfied with. My highlights look too chunky and stark but I'm struggling to find any guides specifically for boots.
Any protips anyone can share? A darker highlight colour? Hit it with a wash to try and bring the contrast down?
>>96152318You're thinking of royal clans. Taking Ungrim allows you to take slayers as core. The problem is that Ungrim costs way too many points (especially compared to dwarf king) and slayers are turds as they are really expensive and come with zero fucking saves so even the shittiest of ranged attacks completely annihilate them
Issue with slayer AoI is that the current "slayer range" is pretty limited and as they are old metal models they're pretty expensive. They said they still have models to reveal so we'll have to wait and see.
They will probably get some sort of movement speed buff and ward save with the new AoI
>>96152365black wash or contrast/speed paint
>>96152365I think that highlight colour is too stark against the rest of the boot. The bigger the contrast between base and highlight, the "sharper" the material looks because it looks like it's glinting. Try again with something like eshin grey or skavenblight dinge (or non gw equivalent) or give it a couple of coats of black wash.
>>96152365No ones gonna notice them when ranked up anyways. Doubly so if you gave them shields
>>96152201Yeah, bestiarum miniatures signature style of having a ton of very spindly bits is bad for wargaming.
>>96152380>>96152437Thanks bros, I think I will try using some contrast paint, I have some Black Templar black that I think will work well, as the boot is Vallejo Charcoal with a Nuln Oil wash and it should help bring back a bit of the blue tint. If that doesn't work I'll basecoat again and try with a darker grey highlight.
>The bigger the contrast between base and highlight, the "sharper" the material looks because it looks like it's glinting. This helpful and what I was trying to avoid but I lack the talent at the moment to pull off highlights on rounded surfaces.
>No ones gonna notice them when ranked up anyways. Doubly so if you gave them shields.I know this is true but *I* will notice. I just don't highlight the side that will be hidden by the shield.
Forgive the terrible lighting but I'm quite pleased with my progress so far.
>>96151616Funny they choose to use that art when it show peasants and crane-gunners units (not available in TOW).
Also Alchemist.
Anon who dropped the AJ The War of Settra's Fury writeup yesterday here. Just saw screenshots shared somewhere else, and realised I missed the Border Prince AoI character list when copy pasting from word. Here it is lol
Characters:
0-1 Border Prince, basic human lord, WS 6, 3 attacks, Ld 9. Lots of equipment options and can ride a barded or unbarded warhorse. Lets mercenary units reroll misbehaviour tests
Border Marshals, same options as the prince, hero stats, BSB option
Outcast Wizards, see Bret exiles
If Exile knight: Paladins, 0-1 Damsel
If Imperial Asset: Captains, 0-1 Engineer per 1k
If dorf friend: 0-1 Thane, Dragon Slayer or Engineer per 1k

Yeah I’m still not feeling Cathay. Went and dug through the tww lore and it’s still not good.

>>96152787>You can't fix themI did with my extensive headcanon document
>>96152781>>96152787I have to agree, Cathay works better as a distant, mythical country, so that's what they are in my head canon.

NNNNNNNNNNÑIIIIIIIIGAAAAAAAAA
>>96152842Stop samefagging.
I respect the fact that GW took a risk and invested in an entirely new plastic army for TOW, but I think it was a big mistake how they handled it. First of all giving a new army, especially one as unpopular as Cathay, BEFORE doing all the legacy armies is a huge mistake and killed the momentum that the game was steadily building up until now. Also this is the first WHF army to be wholly designed by new people with no input from the Old Guard, and it shows. This is an AoS army on square bases. It just doesn't fit the aesthetic. A lot could've been forgiven had they done Cathay after all the legacies and after Kislev, but doing it now might really end up throwing TOW into a death spiral, especially if we have nothing new to look forward to for the next year or so.

>>96152911Maybe. Wargaming is a weird spot.
You can make money of an army that 90% of the fan base hates. Because most players only buy one or a few armies, armies don't need mass appeal.

gets the attention of the chinese market
tow gets substantial new content
vs
rerelease another grog faction that most grogs already have 90% of and will only buy a couple new characters if any
keep tow in a continuous state of rereleases with barely anything new making it seem a half assed product (it is anyways, but perception is key)

>>96153469It has some good parts, but most of it needs a full rewrite to fit the setting and be good from a mechanical standpoint. Classic horror tropes don't belong in Warhammer.
>>96153427Sunlight, bodies of water, religious symbols, garlic, etc. all the usual vampire stuff.
It's not really anything wrong with the vampire elixir in particular, it's just that nagash got so pissed off by the vampires refusing to answer his call to war when going against the empire at the time of sigmar, that he threw who knows how many spiteful curses at them, or at least that's from what I remember.
In real practice, the oldest/strongest vampires are more than capable of getting around these as little more than inconveniences, not mortal weaknesses.
>>96153478You need a good rewrite to fit real life.
>>96152500if you use contrast/speedpaint just give it a light drybrush with white and then hit it with a slightly diluted contrast.
you can use water to dilute, but medium is a lot better
>>96153474There is no response. WH has no basis in realistic tactics or battles, it's just a game
>>96153478>Classic horror tropes don't belong in Warhammer.Why?
>>96153478>Classic horror tropes don't belong in [the setting with a classic horror tropes faction].
Be honest, do you think if GW made a new Araby army that they would be better than the proxy models Perry Miniatures already sells?
>>96153506Because it has its own cosmology and puts a fresh spin on a lot of things. Also because they would clash with actual gameplay. For example, it doesn't matter how many holy symbols your warrior priest, battle pilgrims or chaos warriors are covered in - blood knights will hit them just as hard and destroy them just as easily.
>>96152990I can still buy everything Cathay just fine. It's the only TOW release that didn't sell out for me. I know some other stores are also pretty lukewarm on the final reception of the army, i.e mediocre. They were expecting more out of it.
>>96153532The wargame rules don't have to concern themselves with little bits of info like that.
And the fresh spin comes from how warhammer's own cosmology mamages to recreate those classic tropes with its own internal logic.
>>96153530Where did all the spiky chaos trim go? Holt shit they look bland
>>96152333Ogres and giants.
If they've got enough food, they become pretty content. Ogres do have wanderlust though, so it's probably hard to keep them for too long.
>>96153573They chose to make them practically-not-chaos like dark elves, hashut has now been confirmed as an ancestor god of the dwarfs.

So are we *actually* getting DoW or not?
What do the leaks say?
>>96152911I dunno people up here where I live loved Cathay. Even got 2 new people for it. The lores retarded but the models other than the baloon seem to resonate with people. People like fantasy china, warhammer fantasy, and giving away money so it br what it be.
>>96152911You're completely correct, anon, but there are people (retards cross-posting from /aosg/, likely, who really should go back) who will call you names for saying what you just said.
>>96153718You're getting border princes per the leaks who will function like old DoW in some regards, and we may see a limited released of a few old models. Otherwise it's just SOUP: THE FACTION that will be a bunch of OC donut steal retarded fag shit or some powergamer shit that will be squatted in 5 years to the cries of the retarded.
>it does look fun to play around in assuming leaks are largely legitimate.
>>96153718There are no leaks
Valrak heard the old dogs of war were coming and thought (wrong) that they were going to be shown at the preview
What the stream revealed is that there'll be an arcane journal with an army of infamy about the border princes, so a mixture of things
Anything about leaks is utter bullshit that the anon spamming them is desperately trying to force despite being proven to be lying
Weeks ago I was told Press of Battle would mean you'd see whole armies staring each other down with both players refusing to be the one who charges. Did that end up happening to anyone?
>>96153796I think you were told that by a retard mate. Gotta get in combat if you want to get victory points, gotta get victory points if you wanna win.

So his spear mani and my saurusmani just glared at each other all game from about 8 away.
But that’s more incidental tactics rather than deliberate due to changes.

>>96153891High elves had landed in lustria went exploring for goodies, found them and are retreating.
. Llizards simply attacked enmasse the landing party and, sunk the boats preventing their escape from green hell.
High elves return to their ships to find an entire lizard army they thought chasing behind them has arrived and already mustered for battle, there is no escape with the green death behind them and the lizards infront.
The albino skink priest leading the force remembers the great mazdumundi’s words on the elves “they do not belong here” and signals the attack, his interpretation of the slaan statement implying obliteration.
>>96153921just buy better infantry units to start from, even irondrakes and hammerers will make for better starting points.

>>96153540Nah, that Battalion Box, the Shungengan Lord, and the dice sold out in all Warhammer.com regions (except Aus lol) before release. They filled it back up soon after similar to how the TK and Bret boxes sold out hard on their initial release.
It's a great sign as not even stuff like Space Wolves or the new Idoneth Deepkin sold out for their preorders. Which isn't to say they sold poorly, but selling out means GW underestimated demand, which means even more funding in the future (it's how we got Cathay).

Tbh I think their was a slaan several hundred kilometres away directly piloting the skink priests magic considering he frequently outcast the level 4 high elf mage that game.
Not to mention the lone skink red crest unit champion who attacked and actually murdered the mage in h2h emerging from the forest behind him after his unit was reduced to him alone through fireballs.
It was a lore friendly trip to lustria is what I’m saying.
Plenty of people land on lustria, and delve into the jungle, few leave.
>>96154000the slann told them to
>>96153991I really don't get the aos army critique either. They're extremely blocky, extremely uniform and very clearly based on a single historical culture, all of which aos typically avoids. The only thing that can be considered 'aos' about it is the lack of variation for infantry options, in favour of big centrepieces. And even that isn't really an aos thing, it's more just gw's modern approach to army releases.

Customising your bp army with traits, and most of the bp and slayer lists matches up. I'd not heard anything about a savage orc list. The vampire trait is new, and if it's made up is a fucking shame because it's cool. Slayer list didn't have any slayer pirates or kraken slayers, though the priests and slayer axes are spot on. Can Tomb Guard take halberds and shields at the same time? It seems like the models are built that way, but halberds take two hands right? Is this going to be a situation where the unit has hand weapons with shields AND halberds and then switches between those options or am I missing something?

>>96156616They approve a lot of stuff, they also approved the WFRP supplement for Steam Tanks that said there were only a few ever made, but then tossed that out with TOW and now say there are a lot lot more operating.
Which isn't to say Cloystra isn't canon, but that they're gonna prioritize something they made over what a 3rd party made everytime.
>>96156669Yes, I am describing Numas, that was the point. A numas kitbash army with arab guys running alongside the skellies.
>>96156616Cholesterol was created to appeal to Americans.
>>96156694I think they will prioritize what they think works best for making money and selling models, which soup Armies of Infamy do well, that means more Bretonnian players will be willing to buy into Vampire Coast and vice versa, look at what they are (ALLEGEDLY) doing with Cathay + Marienburg and the Border Princes.
>>96156630Maybe try reading the books instead of getting your knowledge of it from memes.
>>96156715Pretty sure cholesterol was invented for bongs to spread on toast with beans
>>96156745Yeah, which is why of the 4 lord Cloystra seems the least like, I am pretty sure she's the least popular VC lord.
>>96156776I don't think I'm the one who needs to increase their familiarity with the literature.
Can you explain how Lord of the Rings is "dark fantasy"?

>>96156518WFRP have a strangely looking like her character.
>>96156817Because they are both Bretonian Opera singers?
>>96156817>>96156846All fat women look the same. Even if they are ghosts.
>>96156887They're all dead. It's just some of them are dead on the outside.
>>96156480it'd be just harkon, and an underling of his at best
the lustria supplement described a few, doctor morot and the brine wife, I'm not sure morot is undead, so he wouldn't fit in tow's time, but the brine wife is from the age of 3 emps
>>96156846Because their outfits are very similar.
(but you could argue it's a traditional Bretonnian opera singer outfit)
>>96156455Thats kinda gay tho
>>96156798maybe he means the silmarillion?
>>96156959Huh. That's actually not a bad character design.
>>96156959You know, I don't even mind the concept of a banshee opera singer, nor the design, since she looks like the kind of hero model 4th ed would have had.
it's her backstory that's actually retarded
>invited to sing on ulthuan>a storm blocks her ship>she mutinies on her own, throws the captain off the ship and takes the ship through the storm>nobody protests or can fight back, but also the ship is full of knights>the ship sinks due to the storm >????>manaan offers her undeath >¿¿¿¿>she now wants to sink ulthuan so the elves can hear her sing at lastplease someone make it make sense
>>96156786https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NjTWvl8x-U
>>96157031It sounds like a standard fantasy story
>>96156415If tolkein is dark fantasy everything is dark fantasy. Dark fantasy doesn't just me "there's bad stuff in the setting"
would people be butthurt if I got recasts?
I really love these ones
>>96154755>you need some kind of offensive advantage in order to defeat an equal enemy in a defensive positionWOW CRAZY
>>96155180Someone being a leaker doesn't somehow make them intelligent anon. The only thing leakfag was accurate on was shit everyone already knew
>>96157111No, why would they be?
>>96155250Yeah the "legitimate stuff" was GW announcing a slayer and border prince AoI
>>96157064no, it doesn't, it makes no sense
since when is the god of the sea about necromancy? why does she blame the elves for her sinking? what makes her noteworthy to stromfels in the first place?
things happening so randomly is not how fantasy stories are made, it's how superhero stories are made
>oh she was struck by a radioactive lightning and now she got storm powers and hates weatherforecastman!
>>96157111They kinda look boring when you have more than 10 of the same models but no, no one would really care. It looks extremely boring though, I must make that clear.
>>96155410>conviction>looks inside>just a different kind of consumption
>>96157111buying recasts is more ethical than paying the price of the real thing
>>96157111Before I knew what recasts were I spent 200 bucks on a dreadquake mortar from FW, second hand.
>>96155896Okay but if there's a healthy scalpers market that's just an even stronger sign that 's popular because you need demand to be that much higher in order for scalpers to make their money back.
>>96157137You're getting confused. Stromfels is the sea god of sharks and storms, Manaan is the god of the ocean. Some claim that Manaan and stromfels are the same god, especially the cultists of Stromfels, but they are rejected as daemon worshipers by the followers of Manaan.
>>96157170>Some claim that Manaan and stromfels are the same godI know, I do, I used both names on purpose
fite me
>>96157159I’m sure that’s nothing compared to what you’ve given to digital whores.
>>96157111I always ensure to test my opponents models before a game to make sure I’m not playing against recasts. I used to just sniff but now I drill a little hole and inspect the contents in case it’s a high quality recast coated with real GW plastic on the outside.
>>96157159>second handsorry but that was a recast then
>>96156694>WFRP supplement for Steam Tanks that said there were only a few ever made, but then tossed that out with TOW and now say there are a lot lot more operatingI'm pretty sure it said there only a few REMAINING not made. There being more 200 years ago would make more sense in that case
>>96157141>They kinda look boring when you have more than 10 of the same modelsno they dont
it looks like a block of pure armor and guns like a living tank
>>96157218pure block of armor*
I remember one of the steam tanks disappeared after a fire burned down the College of Engineers in Nuln.

>>96157111>recasts>help chinese merchant send his children to university or some poor ukranian buy a new house after it got bombed>Genuine Citadel™ Miniatures>buy another ferrari for some greedy faggot stakeholderRecasts are objectively the more moral option, also they are cheaper and look better
>>96157218I don’t remember them being that posable
>>96156694>but then tossed that out with TOW and now say there are a lot lot more operating.tow only said that in a warhammer community article, the actual books keep mentioning that there are only 12 up and running
>>96156997Maybe? Even it certainly has dark moments, but the entire writing (and lived) philosophy of Tolkien is inherently Christian in that the trials and tribulations against evil are all on a guaranteed trajectory toward a stable plan that ends with the deliverance against evil, the total light at the end of even the darkest tunnels.
Even moments like the Scouring of the Shire are "dark" but are still in line with the idea of the realities of this world and the guarantee of deliverance against it.
Compare that to Warhammer, where the best of people can still be eternally screwed over by Chaos.
>>96157197Would there even be any way to tell?
>>96157271duller details, double mould lines, flash where there isn't supposed to be
neither of these is technically proof it it being a recast, since fw casting isn't lf the best quality, resin moulds get ruined and they could make new masters out of cast miniatures
but they're indicative enough features
>>96157271Not unless you break it. You get quite the odor if you do.
>>96157314>duller detailsAre they though?
Maybe conventional recasts, but 34 micron printers?
>>96157314>duller details, double mould lines, flash where there isn't supposed to bethats only true for low quality recasts
any decent recaster will make indistinguishable ones from forge world
t.retard who bought forge world minis before getting recasts
>>96157111No.
How would they even know unless you went out of your way to tell them?
>>96157389This. A lot of recasts are better than what you can get from the original caster.
>>96157031You missed the part were she started to sing to pass the storm, died cursing the god and Stromfels came to her
>“As her lungs filled with seawater, she cursed the elements and the gods – such was her rage at not being able to perform. The singer vowed to return; that death was no impediment and an audience would hear her sing!”>“I ain’t finished,” said Ghenz, “they say that as she drowned, she finally made her pact. Stromfels came to her, promised immortality and taught her the ways of sea magic in exchange for becoming his emissary, the Siren of the Storm.”
>>96155839Reminder this is suppose to be "Celestial Forged Armour" which gives a +5 Ward Save.
>>96155347This isn't meant to be used in the Old World or WHFB, you dipshit.
>>96153540>>96154127>>96154374>>96154439Check Amazon. You can buy easily buy them at MSRP.
>>96157111Complete opposite, I'd respect a man more if he brought recasts to the table instead of buying from GW. It is a reveal that immediately signifies a person has some intellect and isn't a drone like the Warhammer fanbase masses
Out of curiousity, how many new unit kits hss gw released so far for tow that aren't characters (or cathay) ?
Only the foot knights and I think new ellyrian reavers right ? Are all the bretonnian knights old kits or are there new ones there ?
>>96157970It’s been overwhelming just rereleases and a compulsory character.
We also know some kits got reworked to go together better or just to get more options, but I don’t think we have a comprehensive list. We know some of the stand out issue kits didn’t get touched.
>>96157866This. I may even ask them for the recaster.
Do you listen to music while you paint? Podcasts? Watch something in the background?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCoo2vWTkaY
How do you feel about extreme kitbashing?
>>96158388That's some psychotic shit, in a good way.
>>96157159your oshi is a slut
my locals dont even carry half the old world lines, they suck so much ass i have to buy straight from GW
does anyone else have this problem? its so annoying
>>96158582I have the same issue. Recasters, 3rd party, and miniswap/ebay/Facebook etc are your friend.
And occasionally I'll order direct for models I really care to. Like I put a MTO beastmen to get the std bearer.
>>96158582The “local” GW store doesn’t carry anything beyond the most basic 40K and a pretty healthy AoS range. The old world has a couple started boxes literally on the floor near the register.
The generic hobby store just down the road carries way more of every line and at a discount. It’s a state over, but my friends and I make one or two trips a year
>>96158582Can't you order online with a discount?

Can run them as tk in the meantime, and zombies/bats pull double duty with vc but I miss bloated corpses and carronades. Used to run like 4 bloated corpses purely as skirmishing redirectors in 6th.
Also wheeling out a carronade from behind a block to grapeshot some fuckers was amazing.
>>96155096iirc he had been working with GW for near a decade, but this was his first kit for Forge World.
>>96158646Did you get yours yet?
No word on mine yet its already been a month
>>96152640The socio in the socioeconomics is for social and i think that a mass immigration set a deep social condition. Like the latinos in the US or the African in Europe.
>>96152333Ogres and goblins
Goblins in a world without Orcs and dorfs would eventually develop into wacky Brooklyn accented WoW goblins
>>96151608 (OP)>TQProbably vampire counts, but of course this is far into the future. Still, I do occasionally get greener grass syndrome sometimes and I occasionally stalk eBay for 5th/6th vc minis. I slept on a 30 dollar metal zombie pirate and even though my lads would have been standard spirit Halloween spooks, I still kinda wish I snagged that mini.
Anyway, something I'm working on. Been taking a break from painting so this pic is old, but afterwards I'm gonna start painting again. Still mentally prepping myself for the horses of clanrats I'm gonna have to batch paint.
The pic itself is a the first mini I painted for my army, stripped and repainted.
