So, people don’t like this game? Or just Modifius? I just started a game with some other experienced players and it seems like one of the better designed crunchy ttrpgs (way better than pathfinder I tell you what). Is it the d20 roll under system? The two metacurrencies? It’s not woke pandering is it?

Incorrect answers only please.

It's not D&D, so nobody cares about it. Same problem every game that's not D&D has.

It's the fact that they translated Fallout 4 (a brainless looter-shooter) into RPG format, and indeed focused the setting stuff on Bethesda's east coast slop. People interested in Fallout as a traditional RPG want neither of these things.

I just skimmed through the book and it seemed like playing it would give me cancer. I don't even remember the exact issues I had but I remember it reading like a glorified advanced board game rather than a RPG system, and I hate board games.
For playing Fallout I have my own homebrewed system.

Well I care, DnD shat the bed with the 2024 version so bad that even MY game store’s opening up their “DnD nights” to all ttrpgs. So clearly I’m not the only one who cares either.

Ah, yeah we noticed that too. We all collectively decided to set our campaign in the Midwest and re-skin everything. It wasn’t actually that hard.

There's really no excuse to have been playing it past 2016, and even that's EXTREMELY generous.

that one might be more to do with game stores dying as a whole and needing to do whatever they can to bring in customers.

True, there is a LOT to it. Tokens moving around. Terrain and a map to manage. Luckily most of the things you need to reference can be written down somewhere on the character sheets. So it’s not quite as intimidating as it seems at first. Especially if you have a good cheat sheet with the relevant info. It’s not like Lancer where you have to track eleventy gorillion conditions each with their own round timers that tick independently. THAT shit is real bad.

>>96168889
Never heard of that system. Care to share?

For me, the game was too focused on recreating the shoot, loot and craft gameplay loop of the games, which seems completely uninteresting as a tabletop game. It's also fucked that modipheus omitted key tables from the book so you would have to buy the GM kit.

No, D&D has only ever been good in the 1980s and hasn't had a playable version on shelves since 2007.
>Well I care
You don't matter
While the appeal to popularity shouldn't be a valid argument, whereas when it comes to discussing consumer goods in a public forum popularity is the only metric that matters.

I don't have an opinion on it because I am completely uninterested in survival crafting games. I know that people enjoy the gameplay loop of 4, but it is completely bereft of the things I enjoy about fallout. The idea of trying to port that kind of gameplay over whole hog into a ttrpg seems completely idiotic, in my opinion.

all of these anons pretty much hit the nail on the head. Modiphius is a shit company that makes shit games. i don't care about "woke pandering" or whatever, the game is just mechanically boring and poorly designed. if i wanted to run a Fallout campaign i would probably just use BRP or Ashes Without Number.

Fuck you. If that’s the attitude you’re going to take then you have nothing of value to say. Ever. Don’t like it? Fix your personality.

It’s a shame too, I agree with your sentiment about DnD going downhill after 3rd came out over the years.

I hate that this is true, especially given how mediocre D&D is and how shit of a company WotC is, but it is.

I've been running fallout on twilight 2000 rules for two decades now. People are too obsessed with vidya mechanics, you don't HAVE to have muh SPECIAL attributes to play fallout game.

But what if I WANT TO?
I haven't yet had the chance to play Twilight 2000, but I read through the rules once or twice, isn't it overly gritty and realistic for a Fallout 1/2 experience? Tell me what adaptations or houserules do you use if any, do you keep stress? And how does melee combat fare in it .

If I was more motivated, I would use Mythras. It would be trivially easy to change the Mythras stats and skills over to the SPECIAL stats and skills and the game has just about everything else you'd need. You would need to homebrew perks if those are important to you but I think that wouldn't be too hard.

Very little adaptations or houserules apart from homebrewing iconic weapons, armor and chems. Yes gameplay is grittier and more "realistic" than cartoon violence in fallout, but we like it better that way.

This the main one. The most egregious part is that regular non-glowing creatures are 100% radiation immune for no reason other than because Fallout 4 did it (and the only reason Fallout 4 and 3 do that is so that they can spawn mole rats and insects in the middle of toxic waste dumps for you to fight, without them dying of cancer long before the player actually encounters them). It makes sense that most creatures would have a baseline amount of radiation resistance to avoid death in the wasteland. It doesn't make sense that anything from directed atomic energy weaponry to man-portable nuclear armaments cannot make them even slightly sick

What’s so bad about the movement system in this game? Like how you measure distances in combat with the zones. I can’t remember why we’re supposed to hate that.

It tried too hard to emulate aspects of the Fallout 4/76 gameplay and worldbuilding style.
You'd have a better time running the game via GURPS, as god intended, or BRP.
The 2d20 system peaked with Conan.

There is one or two Mythras fallout homebrew attempts out there that you could pilfer instead of going ground up if you wanted to do Fallout Mythras.

No dumber than plasma rifles or fusion batteries the size of a d cell. The radiation rifles are one of 4's few ideas I think are kinda cool and fit in with Fallout.

I can rationalize laser or plasma weapons and fusion cells, but my autism doesn't let me rationalize using gamma rays to instantly kill someone. With the sort of energy required to do that, you could just fry them with lasers twice over. Even using technobabble, how the hell do you explain it?

I don't. Same way it's impossible according to physics for Fallout to have tiny fusion and fission reactors, or for ghouls or mutants to be a thing, etc. I'm not in it for the scientific plausibility, just consistency of vision.

All that said, we could compromise and use microwave rifles, instead. Not as funny as a gamma ray gun, but still plenty mean.
