RIFTS & Palladium General
Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/

The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Now the wasteland has had 300 years to partially recover, and civilization has returned to the world; but not just human civilization: alien empires, monster kingdoms, lost time travellers, lands of mutants, demonic overlords and wizards have arisen from the ashes, all trying to rebuild the world in their own image!

RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, humanities best most moral hope the CS, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!

Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more.

Anonymous No.96174849 [Report] >>96174852
Alright, I've been putting together a list of different magics in rifts and to see if the ley line walker can learn it:

>>General agreements that LLWs can learn any magic in rifter11, reprinted in BoM, special excert by KS.
>>Of note pg.24-25 talks about how the spells that are restricted to specific OCCs or are OCC or RCC powers have been excluded from the book. Further talks bout how Invocations (Ley Line Walker or Wizard magic), Elemental/Warlock Magic, Conjuring, Shifting/Summoning, Necromancy and Witch magic are 'universal' or found everywhere. Cloud, dolphin, and tatoo magic are created by a specific group and controlled by that group.
African Ceremonial Magic (African Continent)
>Says specifically restricted to priest OCC unless otherwise stated. Others may participate in rituals.
African Witch Spells (African Continent)
>Exclusive to African witches
Biomancy (South America)
>exclusive to biomancers and jungle elves?
Bio-Wizardry (Atlantis; see Magic Items; rare)
>Secret of the splugorth
Blue Flame Magic (South America; rare)
>Learnable by any mage, but must know it exists and be taught by practioners.
Bone Magic (Russian subset ofNecro-Magic; rare)
+>Don't have book, supposedly 2xPPE
Cloud Magic (racial; American Southwest; rare)
>Secret of the Lyn-seral. Requires being a cloud weaver or sky-knight OCC, which requires IQ ME 18+ for not-lyn seral races.
Conjuring (global, but strongest in North America)
>Exclusive conjurers.
Dolphin Magic (racial; oceans)
>Exclusive to dolphins, dolphins can learn some ocean magic and whale spell songs
Anonymous No.96174852 [Report] >>96174865
>>96174849
Dreamship Magic (racial, Horune; oceans; rare)
Druidism (England and Western Europe, mainly)
Elemental Magic (Warlocks; global)
>described spells as being 'not available except invocation spells' some spells reappear in invocation list. In PF Wizard OCC can figure out Warlock spells.
Herbalism (England and Western Europe, mainly)
Horune Magic (Ship Dreamers; racial & oceans)
Invocations (Ley Line Walker/Wizard Magic; global)
>Noted that overlap spells with warlock and conjurers are available half level/ppe for those OCCs.
Korallyte Shaping (racial, Naut'YIl; oceans; rare)
>Says directly Ocean Wizard, Koral Shaper, Ley Line Walker, Mystic, and Techno-Wizard o. c. c. can learn it with TW having half range and double PPE cost.
Ley Line Magic (global, included in Invocations)
>Obvious. Some other OCCs can't learn all the invo spells. Some magic lists overlap with invo.
Living Fire Magic (Russia, Eastern Europe and Asia)
>exclusive to fire mageOCC, only in Russia
Lemurian Biomancy
>Officially says anyone can learn it but they must have an absolute obsession with respecting life and nature. Become vegaterian and abhore any sort of technology including techno wizardry and rune magic and the life styles tied to them. Avoid cities or even vehicles. Seems like even banging rocks is a line for them.
Millennium Tree Magic Creations (rare, England & Japan)
Mysticism (a blend of magic and psionics; global)
Mystic Kuznya (Russian magic smith; rare)
Nature Magic (Russia, Eastern Europe and Asia)
>"special knowledge of the Old Believer OCC" packaged with their specific outlook and beliefs.
Anonymous No.96174865 [Report] >>96174877
>>96174852
Nazcan Line Magic (South America: Peru; rare)
>Existence is closely guarded secret. Only Nazca Line Maker OCC can master it but other mages can learn to use it with tutoring, study, and practice. (Diabolist described as having a talent for it as a they like to draw circles for their magic. The Rule: LLW and other mage OCCs use the magic only at half their level. Skill requires corresponding art/craft skill.
Necromancy/Necro-Magic (global; strongest outside of the Americas)
>Other mages can learn it, natural disgust makes them use 2x PPE, with TW and mystics verbatim "never learning necromancy."
Ocean Magic (Coastal and Pacific Islands; also see Dolphin and Whale
magic)
>Not defined. Goes to lengths to explain how you can use Ocean Magic if you can't breath underwater suggesting it is learnable?
Rift & Ley Line Magic (same as Ley Line magic; see Invocations;
global)
>It's invo but the specific spells LLW and LLR get by meditating
Rune Magic (see Bio-Wizardry; rare)
Shamanistic Magic (North America and aboriginal cultures)
>>Special Note<<
>Defines Druids, Milennium Druids, African Medicine Man, Priest and Rain maker, Austrailian Shaman/ Priest, Old Beliver, Inuit Shamans, Herbologists, biomancers and other Native American Shamans as 'Shamanistic practices and magic' and are separate from active spell casting OCCs. The quote being they are more "sage than mage" and their magic comes from ritual and cultural beliefs most of the time.
>><<
Shifting & Summoning (global)
>More of a power of shifters than spells
Spoiling Magic (Russia & Eastern Europe)
>Exclusive to Witch OCCs or those that take the Witch pact of magic. Only used for evil.
Anonymous No.96174877 [Report] >>96176371
>>96174865
Stone Magic (Atlantis; but also found in Mexico, Central & South
America; rare)
>Spells are more powersets and skills exclusive to stone master OCC. No racial restriction on being a stone master.
Tattoo Magic (Atlantis and the Megaverse; rare)
>Exclusive to splugorth and ku-reth dragons
Techno-Wizard Magic (North America)
Temporal Magic (global, strongest in England; rare)
>As described in BoM, 9th level or higher magic practioners may get the chance to learn it. Some gods, godlings, alien intelligences, demon lords or supernatural beings may know temporal spells but those are rare. Exclusivity is hammered home.
Warlock Magic (see Elemental Magic; global)
>Overlap spells
Witchery/Witchcraft (any spell
Whale spellsongs
>No restrictions mentioned. Does say that human casters or those that can't speak with echolocation or underwater must perform spells as rituals and at half range.

This is what I have written up so far. I wish we could do pdfs again.

Not at all. My game is on hiatus but you can use TW Golem Hearts from Rifter 84 to make reusable customizable golem dudes without the sacrifice normal golem require. You can give them a really simple body at first & then implant them in some power armor to have them take control. (They even regenerate the armor or robot they're in slowly) so if you want you can use them to resell scrapped armor you recover

Looking at Fleets they don't say any restrictions. Further, LLW is a default class for phaseworld as in all races pretty much can be LLW and they refer you to buy Rifts and use the OCC pages from that. They do that a lot for Phase World.

So I would say any and all LLW can cast Space Magic. Further, I would point out that Phase World as a setting has Space Leylines and an entire faction of magic users. So any GM disagreeing with that probably can go down to Minnesota and suck Palladium's staff's chodes.

Common consensus seems to be that for one reason or another Rifts sucks, but this shit is really engaging. Seems like Kevin Siembieda knows how to write in a way that gets you to want to play. Does he fall off as a writer in the future or something? Rifts Ultimate Edition seems to rock so far.

The people who say it sucks are mainly repeating what they have been told by old old as forum posts parroted ad nuesum

The majority of people who hate have never read shit of the lore/setting
Anonymous No.96195656 [Report]
>>96195067
Not really, no. A lot of people I've talked to think the system is too obtuse or character creation takes too much time. The generally like the gonzo setting.

People who play and don't like the system would think a system using fewer dice or a more uniform system for resolution would be fantastic but their homebrew versions are too simplified, imo.

You have to realize we have 40 years of retards who cant grasp rolling g to defend or an aiming system that works for headshots.

Riftsbros, I'm playing a principled LLW and the group found a 'wormhole missile' that, if actually works would obliterate a whole dimension. I'm the only one of a good alignment, the rest are selfish abberant which to them is basically just wanting to do whatever they want.

The seainquisitor demon hunter wants to launch it into hell through a demon portal in calagary or cincinnati. Everyone else is indifferent. The issue is that its beginning to ruin the game because all we are doing is plotting the logistics of this 20 ton ICBM and how to use it but more importantly my character doesn't want to nuke hell because his character has an alignment that has him thinking
>there is more than one kind of hell, both hells are in a cold war and killing one would spur the other to take over.
>Nuking a hell dimension might not kill them all and severely pass off the ones out of that dimension and treat Earth as a hostile enemy instead of a fun playground
>Its a giant assumption that sticking it in a portal will go to a hell, it could end up anywhere. Its a shot in the dark.
>Santa Claus lives in one of those hell dimensions
>there are, surprisingly, not evil entities in these hells some of which helped defend Tolkien
>(more selfishly)Demons are a source of magic knowledge. Killing a ton of them in their home dimension might deprive the magic community cool spells.
Lastly
>Atlantis screwed with big rifts and got sacked into another dimension for millenia with all the magic. Brazil set off a nuke and caused the coming of the Rifts. Setting off a black hole by shooting it through a Mega rift will also probably do something horrible.

The issue is that the Demon hunter is being a putz. He keeps repeating his same idea over and over saying that he's bringing up different ideas. Its really hurting the game.

Dyval is 7 layers of hell, you aren't nuking either
Besides having the greatest mages other than fucking Toth. If you collapsed one though the other would take over but half the universes evil is eradicated. Someone has to kill em all and you cant remove both at once likely.

Another question I'm having a hard time with. It says psychics have to be within 1 mile to get the benefits from a leyline but I am not seeing how close mages have to be at all. Is it safe to assume that being within 1 mile also works for them or is there something saying they have to be directly inside or under a leyline?
