>>96172732 (OP)I like the system well enough, and I REALLY like what came after in terms of the adventurers.
But Chariot of the Gods was SUCH a dumb opening adventure for them to go with. Especially since it wasn't just the first adventure, they literally gave it to their backers first as the first taste of what adventures were going to be like.
Let me break down my problems with Chariots:
So, this is straight up players first impression of a game that (and this is important) THEY COULD JUST CANCEL THEIR PREORDER ON THE STRENGTH OF THIS.
Someone legit said: "let's fucking go with this complete deliberate clusterfuck of coincidences and multiple antagonists and not give the players a chance to breathe and get rid of stress even though normally you would." and everyone was like "Good idea!"
Also, FIVE sources of antagonist, but NONE of them are the actual Alien. Sure, you don't want to overuse the thing, but if you are trying to make a first impression for an ALIEN RPG, based on the successful film franchise ALIEN and ALIENS as well as the Black Horse ALIEN comics then fucking maybe you at least want one of those Antagonists to be a fucking Xenomorph for your big first big foray into the world.
You definitely wouldn't want to take a risk by say, USING SHIT FROM THE MOST REVILED FILM IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING FRANCHISE WOULD YOU. I know at least one person on this cambodian basket weaving website was complaining about that at the time.
Chariots of the Gods has all the hallmarks of what should have been an experimental third album sort of deal. A weird, atypical experience that should be playing on pre-established design in weird ways that's going to have marmite style Love it or Hate it reactions.
It absolutely should NOT have been their first release, let along PRE-release. The Hadley's Hope scenario would have been better and that's straight up only a final third of an adventure.
