Standard needs more gay dragons.
I miss catholic healing prayer Eddie.
>>96211715My dragons are pretty fucking gay
What should i play in Standard right now fa/tg/uys?
the real next-level magic is switching to yugioh
>>96211711 (OP)Is EoE a flop or not?
>>96211755Spaceship tribal
>>96211783I picked up the basics of salamangreat on master duel but I'm having trouble understanding what ideal end boards should look like, I thought it was a simple climbing up the chain getting bigger and bigger guys but eventually I gotta tribute my big guys to get a smaller guy in order to setup negates/card advantage and it's hard to know when that's the correct play or not
it is wild that ygo's standard format is basically legacy, there's so many cards/archetypes to learn how to play against
>>96211760Chocobos are way more fun than they should be
>>96211845I honestly think they're underrated. Tifa is the big landfall deck now but it's easier to defend against one 36/36 than 4 8/8s.
>>96211783>>96211843You'll get over the honeymoon period soon enough, trust me. The reality is that yugioh has been pretty shit for the last few formats as well, and I say this as someone who actually played at a high level and has some accolades to his name
The reality is that all card games are crap, but we are all just hopelessly addicted
>They errata'd the seppuku card
lame
Station should have just been Vehicles but with toughness.
>>96211882I won Nationals in my small country with Gladiators back in the day, and I agree. It hasn't really been an enjoyable game to me for a long time, the Urza's Saga joke about where the early game is the coin flip and the mid game is MP1 is real in Yugioh.
>>96211877They miss like 3 good bird cards to be good.
They're a critical mass tribal that lacks critical mass.
>went 2-3 in EOE draft
Platinum 4... hurts... Station is better than I thought. I played UG lander had 2 of the rare 1GG enchantment that gives creatures counters upon ETB based on lands etb that turn. Very clunky desu
landers are crazy you can casually get 2/3 and ramping on OP's endstep feels good. Station is better than you think it's hard to swing in with BUG and R looks better as a splash for removal
time will tell
>>96212076 love me some GBs, still need to get them all maxed out someday
it's a shame that konami is gonna kill edison and I don't live in america so there's not any independant tourneys for it. This is truly the peak ygo experience
THE worst art in MTG history.

Embrace tradition.
Come back to Premodern, /tg/.
Come back home...
I timed my last kona combo game
20 seconds to demonstrate the deterministic loop of fierce empath+marang being able to draw my whole deck
130 seconds to actually find my 1-of win condition
30 seconds to lock up the entire board
10 seconds to discard down to 7 cards
90 seconds of my miserable opponent roping out
1 second to swing and win
Kona loops have reintroduced the four horsemen problem to MTG. Your endpoint is deterministic, the number of loops is not. Its theoretically a fast process, especially with extra draw spells like stock up in the mix. But shuffling every time you draw means you could take 1 or 50 loops
>>96212202I mean this was total sincerity; I've worked some really shitty jobs in restaurants around my city, one job at a gym - I left my big goy job in a safe office selling fake shit on the phone but kinda regret it. Why? Because I work with a lot of black people, and without fail; every single black guy has been shades of gay. Every single one over sexual, making comments about how they'd suck cock for money or take it up the ass in prison to avoid some hypothetical prison gang killer, and frankly I now view all black men as by default bisexual. It's ludicrous how you can be standing pecefully on your own; and they'll just come up to you unprompted to say something sexual. A plague of communication and the mind.
My comment stands, but with this further context I believe I have bolstered my position.
>>96212241Oh I just realized you are blowing up lands
lol that's awesome
what are your thoughts on this card?
>>96212271I tried Bolting one once and it didn't work and I lost.
So I think it's a stupid card.
>>96212271Has anyone ran Battles anywhere just to give this thing +1?
>>96212271Unplayable nowadays
>>96212174There is nothing wrong with Aven Trooper's art other than that they accidentally printed a low-res scan file for it.
>>96212271Tarmogoyfogoyf 8GG
Creature - Lhurgoyf Child
Tarmogoyfogoyf's power is equal to the number of lhurgoyf cards among cards in all sanctioned formats and its toughness is equal to that number plus 1.
If you say "Ach! Hans, I'm running too!" as you search your library, you may cast a card named Tarmogoyf from your library. Do this no more than once each turn.
*/1+*
>>96212271I think the fact that Tarmogoyf, which was known as the best creature in the game for a long time, is near unplayable now, indicates that Magic is fucked (in case it wasn't clear for other reasons such as the fact that there's a fucking Spider-Ham card in standard).
>>96212271>what are your thoughts on this card?KWAB. Tarmonetty BTFO
>>96212340Tarmogoyf would be absolutely 100% playable in Standard Roots.
We must accelerate
We need 10 UB sets a year
>>96212174>hatred for the (((Cabal)))hmmm...
>>96212453We do. Secret Lairs bump it up to like 15.
>>96212453No other TCG has this rythm of bullshit. I hope it soon crash.
>>96212488No because no other TCG has EDH equivalent.
>>96212271Doesn't draw a card or put counters or create tokens when you do thing, unfortunately
>>96212488That's because they don't have the ability to do so, they would be doing the same thing if they could. See Pokemon, they've been getting a set every two months now too.
>>96212241why doesn't mtg do the ygo thing where you don't actually shuffle the deck between consecutive searches and only shuffle it prior to a draw and the top card being inportant? would save a lot of time
>>96212650Because ygo rules are dogshit that rely on good faith interpretation of the rules and the cards
when i will be able to put trap cards into my oppo deck? with the amount of slop we are seeing i don't think there should be any red lines in design.
>>96212650Its purely because of the Omen mechanic being stupid
They could have written it as;
>Then put this card on the bottom of your libraryinstead its
>Then shuffle this card into your libraryIt means you need to shuffle every time you cast an omen card and it has an impact on the cards you can draw so its not interchangeable. They wanted dragons with omen to not 'disappear' from your deck particularly for limited, because it feels bad to have a big splashy card and know using its lower cost utility mode loses you the bomb forever.
but putting it on the bottom even in limited might as well make it gone forever too
so they shuffle it, which adds a retarded amount of slowing down the game and making combos non-deterministic
remember back when the popular tribes got really strong lords back in like dominaria united and then wotc did nothing with them since? elves got something similar to a glimpse + lord all-in-one package
>>96212846Lorwyn is coming up soon and it'll probably be tribal again.
>>96212650Because that's retarded. "When the top card is important" is all the fucking time.
the new set is kind of annoying to draft.
makes me appreciate how clean and simple FF was.
>>96212876>>96212846>Tribes/tribalIT'S KINDRED, KINDRED!
>>96212241seems like messy deckbuilding to play a pure 'win condition' card in Omni
isn't playing 4 Serpents and passing with counterspells in hand going to be enough vs everything?
What was the point of rotating all the good removal and only giving us Portable Hole 2?
>>96213040you got lockdown 2 as well
>>96213003I think it's typal actually, this shit is so fucking confusing for no reason
>>96213003this was one of the stupidest changes in the history of the game.
i could be convinced with "their" instead of "his or hers" because it was starting to get a little wordy, but what is kindred even for? did wotc ever explain why? who is being offended by this?
>>96213077I was offended by it
>>96213037They untap, activate mistrise village, cast day of judgment, emote "your go"
>>96213086it doesn't have a mana cost so it is effectively cmc 0 for the purposes of removal spells and stuff
>>96213077Well, partially it was because people kept using "tribal" to refer to the card type AND the strategy, so they split it into Kindred for the card type and 'typal' for the strategy, but then everybody just called both Kindred because people are dumb.
>>96213099are there Mistrise Village control decks?
>>96213086A face-down creature, unless otherwise specified, has no name, type, colour or mana cost and derived traits thereof.
>>96213077Kindred does sound cooler than tribal, but more people no what tribal is/means. Nobody got their Merriam-Webster dictionary to look up kindred and probably think it's a chocolate based treat.
what does Kindred even add to the game
>Keep trying to brew insect tribal>Two major archetypes stand out>Former is an insect pile with Icetill Explorer and/or Roaming Throne to get you to your wincons>Latter is a 4-color reanimator deck that reanimates Overlord of the Balemurk or Mistmoors with benefits if Swarmweaver also gets out there (doesn't really feel like an insect deck, but generally plays a lot better and is more fun in general)>Icetill Explorer costs $20 each, Roaming Throne costs $30 each, will probably require a sultai mana base>Balemurk costs $25 each, Mistmoors costs $7 each, at least the mana base is still just BGI just wanted to play with a bunch of bugs, why did Swarmweaver have to involve such an expensive archetype (BG delirium)? Maybe I should cut Mistmoors for Aatchik, but Aatchik just seems way worse in almost every catagory.
>>96212876Lorwyn better have some good generic tribal cards that don't cost an arm and a leg to play. Strixhaven better have Blex with insect synergies.
>>96213215a way to have noncreature card types have creature card types and fit into creature-based synergies/tutors? "Shock but it counts as a Goblin" is fucking massive for Goblin decks
>>96213215>what does Kindred even add to the gameA surprise
>>96212241Anon we are brewing the same, except im just drawing my deck and looping corroding dragonstorm. You are using planets to tap kona right?
Does anyone have any draft advice for EoE?
>>96213336Don't. The games' corpse shouldn't be kept animated any longer
>>96213345I like playing draft and you aren't obligated to answer the question
>>96213362Not obligated no, but decided to throw out my meaningless opinion to your equally meaningless question because I'm bored.
Or better yet play the Innistrad remastered draft and have a good time instead.
>>96213185https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=71858&d=744700&f=ST
>>96213415Innistrad remastered is cartoonishly bad drafting material. It was very obviously not made for it
>>96213425Idk I had fun creating a stupid werewolf tribal deck and smashing people with big creatures like a good Johnny
>>96213336I think green and black look pretty strong, haven't gotten too many games in but so far it seems to hold true.
>>96213248Only planets yes. But I have no black mana sources so an 8 mana colorless card and 2 black mana card aren't much more castable than each other. I had a game today where I used extinguisher to remove an o-ring that had an omni under it, and another where I had kona and extinguisher and bounce off in hand, which let me sweep the opponents board without even losing kona.
also the issue of timing out if opponent has a high life total. Clearing 100+ life isn't hard when you can field ~32 power of creatures and keep them locked out, just attack a few times
50 casts of dragonstorm eh
>>96213215You mean Tribal?
>play with friends
>pod meta is casual jank friendly with long lasting fun games
>play at lgs and arena
>sweatlords with constant removals
I love the game but goddamn I hate 90% of you. Way to suck the fun right out of the game.
>>96213469Im thinking of in paper. They are deterministically dead with the loop. I like extinguisher and think its fun, but in paper it just delays the inevitable.
>>96213511>Nooooooooooo how you dare play... God forbid me... GOOD CARDS!!!??? Play jank so i can have fun!!!
How can I tell when my opponent doesn't have an answer so I can stop walking into these rakes in front of me
>>96213511No, Timmy, someone swords to plowshares-ing your Craterhoof is not sweaty nor is it hard stax
>>96213570This but unironically
Kitchen table is the real Magic experience
>>96213625>being awful at the game is the true experienceMost retarded take I've seen all week.
>>96213614it's insanely sweaty and desperate when your opponent casts a board wipe to remove a single 2 drop creature
>>96213663If they are casting boardwipes to remove 2 drops they are putting themselves at a disadvantage and you should exploit that
>>96213558ergh I tell you its the four horsemen issue in paper
think through it like this
a judge gets called to the table
you explain that with empath and marangs, you can deterministically draw through your entire deck via coil and catch
judge says you can't shortcut it if its non-deterministic
he also points out that because you draw 3 cards at a time, you would deck yourself if you had 1-2 cards left in your library and they included the single wincon you needed
you can show your decklist includes multiple draw spells like stock up and star chart, so even if you drew down to 2 cards in library you'd be guaranteed to hit it without decking
judge still says its a non-deterministic draw order and the rules are very clear:
>Non-deterministic loops (loops that rely on decision trees, probability or mathematical convergence) may not be shortcut. A player attempting to execute a nondeterministic loop must stop if at any point during the process a previous game state (or one identical in all relevant ways) is reached again. This happens most often in loops that involve shuffling a library.Thankfully unlike the worst combos, you can't actually arrive at the same game state or identical in all relevant ways because you're moving cards from library->hand->graveyard. But you aren't allowed to shortcut
you need to shuffle
every
single
time
also lost in the maze is no joke
>>96213625>real Magic experiencesounds like copium for being bad
>>96213336red white aggro
there is not archetype, but red has good combat tricks with rigged for war and full bore, along with enough removal cards to take out blockers
so I like playing tribal creature based decks. what are the best tribal themes for the following:
>selesnya
>gruul
>izzet
>boros
>azorius
>simic
>>96213663It's either a good play or it's not. Do you think people should intentionally play poorly to avoid being "sweaty"?
>>96214084>selesnya>boros>simicThe best tribes for these creature types right now are probably the Bloomburrow archetypes (rabbits, mice and frogs respectively).
>gruul>izzet>azoriusIt's hard to say how it will manifest right now since we still don't know what people will run, but there's a pretty good chance you could make a robot tribal deck using at least one of these color combinations. Even if it goes into more colors, we also have Cavern of Souls and Secluded Courtyard to work with, so color-fixing shouldn't be a problem.
>>96214169I assume he's saying he wants people to not feel the need to hold up removal for every little creature that can be played, to which I say "Then it's WotC's fault for printing so many kill-on-sight threats that win you the game once you untap with them."
>Do the London Mulligan, except before the start of the match, each player may scry X, where X is the number of times their opponent mulliganed
There, I fixed it.
Call it the Dallas Mulligan.
>>96213758I see, makes sense. How did it work in the pro tour to make it viable?
>>96214269Yeah, city of the first pro tour I went to.
>>96213000There's been a couple decks where I've though I drafted something good only to get btfo by some really good decks.
>>96213336Try to stick to two color decks. Only splash a third for late game bombs. Stations are actually okay, especially with warp creatures. Synergies are very very strong but many are very specific a+b.
I've seen aggro and control/late game decks work. But going late game is the stronger strategy I think. Draft a decent amount of bombs and then enough removal or early bodies to stall it out, play bombs, win. The aggro decks I've seen work were absolutely insane, likely team drafted, because no one gets 5+ pieces of uncommon on color removal.
>>96214257No. First player advantage is already too strong. Who ever goes second should get a free scry.
>>96214348Second player gets the first draw of the game, why would they mulligan in the first place? Theyโre already up one card over player one.
>>96214375Wdym why would they mulligan? Have you never played magic? There's lots of reasons to mulligan, unless you play blue in Legacy of course. The extra card still doesn't change the fact going first is at least 5-15% more likely to win. IDK if a free scry is even enough.
>>96214478Why is going first so powerful? Because you can take a free action without any response?
>>96214493You're one land over your opponent, you can take the initiative with whatever your first move is, what you just said... going first is an advantage in pretty much every game, and a massive one.
>>96213625Even my shoe box constructed deck has 4 terrors in it.
>>96214478Fuck you cunt, have YOU played magic? The only reason the second player should be mulligan is if he has a no lander.
Even a one lander is keepable on the draw.
Is comogoyf a real thing in Pioneer? Today i found a pair and with Occulus the deck doesnt feel half bad honestly.
>>96214598Holy shit.
Post mtgo trophies.
>>96214603Seems to be a real thing in Standard and Pioneer, and I wouldn't be surprised for it to be real in a BUG Murktide deck in Modern
>>96214613What do you get in bug murktide that you don't in UB?
>>96213606Run black and use duress/inquisition/thought seize
>>96214622Maindeck not much more than Cosmogoyf but you get enchantment hate in the sideboard
>>96214493Because they get to have the initiative (not the mechanic). Turn 1, they'll have 1 land on their turn vs the opponent's 0. Turn 2, they'll have 2 lands on their turn vs the opponent's 1. Every time it's their turn, they're probably up on mana so they get to do more. In fast formats, 1 mana difference can be huge. Say games regularly end on turn 4, that means the guy who went first had 10 mana over the course of the game while the guy who went second only had 6. That's almost twice as much.
>>96214493>Free action without responseAbsolutely, being proactive is much better than being reactive, especially as the format rises in power. Just look at Legacy and Vintage where T0 interaction is very prevalent if not required in some cases.
But that's only half of it. Going first means you're always going to be up on mana, theoretically, all game. You will have the opportunity to always be making more powerful/more plays throughout the game. That's a VERY good advantage to have.
>>96214641>>96214644How do we balance going first vs. second? Stupid to lose due to a coin flip scenario.
>>96214641>>96214493In hearthstone the player going second basically gets a free lotus petal and it's still 51-49 advantage for first player.
>>96214786>gayrenafppfpfpHHAHAHHAHAHAH
All I needed to know.
>>96214789>literal boomer smb

>Rust Harvester + Scour for Scrap + Secluded Starforge in a deck with 13 artifacts

>Nova Hellkite
>Still only went 2-1 instead of 3-0
This format isn't messing around, huh? Half the games I won were nerve wracking, too. Was on 1 life for 4 turns until Rust Harvester won me the game.
So when do we get our first real numbers on what decks are strong in standard post-rotation? Is there a pro tour or some other big money tournament coming up here soon?
>>96212123I think they did a great job with station in that it's a pretty shit powered mechanic in standard and elsewhere but on draft the power level is low enough that you benefit from using all parts of the buffalo. It's actually pretty fun.
>>96213336You can only splash for a third/fourth/fifth color if you're heavy green. This is back to basics in regards to color compositions in draft sets.
Red seems like it's mostly a support color. 99% of mainly red decks are gonna get fucked. But it plays good support.
Still figuring out the proper tiers and evaluations for a lot of the cards, though. This is a tough nut to crack.
>>9621478251-49 would a dream scenario and i find it hard to believe it can be that close. even chess at most of its competitive history has had a bigger disparity between white and black winrates.
>>96215116>Is there a pro tour or some other big money tournament coming up here soon?I don't know about big events but the last PT of the year is modern and draft
>>96215025Bro these games are wild. I don't know how some of these guys have 3+ trophies. I've had 3 good drafts only to get btfo by some absolutely crazy decks, and those guys are saying they have been going 2-1 a lot.
There are some very strong synergies but they seem to be very much A+B things so if you draw the wrong half of your deck, even if your card quality is above average, you opponent can still get you with some good draws.
>>96215169I've seem two general strategies work so far:
Extremely aggressive, and I mean, almost no cards above 4cmc, packing 5+ pieces of removal, and some way to filter cards. I've seen it done with every color. As long as you have enough removal and ability to close out the game, there are lots of ways to get power down and through.
Second strategy is to go for late game. Have the ability to stall, recover, and then play big bodies and run over your opponent. There are actually a few ways to wipe the board. Ways to ramp into big shit. Depends on the rares you open.
>>96215025Also I must have played you nigga. I remember playing that deck. I've lost two games with the opponent on 1 life fuckkkkk.

I wanna make 6 decks that are quintessential, classic Magic tribal themes, but one caveat: I want them dual colored. Anyone recommend good, synergetic creature tribals that are old school but still printed and good? Is simic merfolk still a thing? Or rakdos goblins?
>>96216276>probably some sort of Legacy deck can use him tooI'm intending to try him in Bomberman but I can't figure out what build I want to run or is best. I don't really want to use Aerith or Glaring Fleshraker.

>>96217650you jest, but it will probably happen
>>96216933>>96217591WotC hasn't really given any tribal decks support outside humans and soldiers in years. The closest you'll find today are the generic monored lords in Foundation (plus OG Krenko for some reason) and the goofy goblins from Aetherdrift. They tried making dragon tribal viable with the return to Tarkir, but the cards are better utilized in the Omniscience combo. Any other lords or tribal cards that currently exist in standard are only meant to see play in commander. You're only options nowadays for old school Magic tribes seem to be pioneer and older.

I know it sounds like boomer advice, but really: do not start, not even once.
Because once you've become a full fledged smoker, you will ALWAYS be a smoker, even if you stop. Meaning that the craving will ALWAYS be there, whether it's 1, 5 or 20 years after you stop.
This is a curse you cannot rid yourself of entirely.
>>96221701I pulled two at prerelease with a Creeping Tar Pit, felt great
>>96221747not really. the deck needs to be played and fought against in completely different ways and has vastly different principles. treat tempo/midrange like aggro or control and you'll just lose- thus, it's a different deck.
>>96222041This.
There isn't even a good reason to touch a TCG in the first place.
The promises of TCGs are:
Creative deck making.
A game
There is no creative deck expression, there is the meta deck list everyone must pick from and the rest are just you wasting money as it is mathematically and objectively proven which cards and decks are the correct ones to play competetively.
There is no balance, there is no game, just who has the biggest budget, who gets the most expensive cards(the top meta deck).
At this point all you have left is draft, and at this point what you should always do is just buy a well-designed, self-contained deck-building game instead. It'll be a one time cost of one draft event and will actually give you everything that TCGs promise but fail to deliver, while also having a near infinite replay value.
Don't do TCGs kids. It will ruin your brain and lungs with addiction and forever chemical dust from the coating they use for the cards.

Don't get me wrong, Omen is good text to have on a card, but it doesn't push a tribal direction. It just makes the card itself better as a standalone.
Dragon tribal literally can't be good while WotC is convinced the cards need to be 6+ mana with no feasible discount avenues because le shivan dragon. It doesn't help that a large number of them are unprotected creatures that rely on combat damage triggers for their effect.

I am very impressed with Edge of Eternities. The draft portion doesn't feel anywhere near solved to me, and, even better, the games are intense and full of choices and skill tests.

imagine it like this:
>bounce all their non-lands with marangs
>empath gets myojin
>remove divinity counter from it, opponent has to discard their hand
>bounce myojin, recast it
>set a stop on their upkeep
>!!! you can make them discard at a instant speed with myojin to ensure they can't sorcery speed a sweeper
Yeah its an uncastable like dragonstorm but it doesn't take fucking ages to go off and you don't need to spend 3 minutes digging for it because it comes from empath
The other option would just be to loop red overlord and burn them out for 4 damage a pop but that can take 5 iterations for a 20 life opponent and if they're at 40+ in lifegain? ew
I just started playing, got the EoE precon (Counterintelligence), had some fun with it (even won my first game) but feels like I lack counters and often end up out of cards, any advice on how to get better? Is it just a matter of upgrading the deck a bit? How could I go about that?

>>96220611I hate that the flavor seems made to fit the Carnage symbiote itself, rather than Kletus wearing the symbiote. Like, it brings back a weak dude and makes them go crazy, which is in line with what the symbiote itself did, but Carnage has never really been defined by the symbiote part of it, it's always been Kletus that's the defining part of Carnage. I guess maybe we're getting more than one Carnage card? That'd have other issues.

>>96225371>it's balanced because you can build it as control or combothe argument isn't that it's balanced, the argument is that if you get rid of it, control as an archetype just gets deleted and we go back to combo vs stax/bazaar because doing anything else is not worth it
I personally don't care if control is unplayable, I've been on MWI since the initiative creatures came out, but if you're under the impression banning lurrus is gonna make the format more healthy, you're in for big surprise
>>96226876The whole point of Vintage is to do broken shit with cards you can't play anywhere else. Fair Ux control isn't fun or interesting to play as or against and BUG at least has the distinction of being built as an anti-meta deck using specific hate cards which demand green. Instead, Lurrus control just plays the best cards available in the best colours available, and the deckbuilding restriction more or less doesn't exist. It's not what people sign up to Vintage for.
>>96222220>At this point all you have left is draft, and at this point what you should always do is just buy a well-designed, self-contained deck-building game instead.Recommend one?
