Kislev and WoC are the mostly likely if it can only be pre-exsting faction then WoC and Cathay
Does this new basing scheme look much better?
>>96219643Old one for comparison.
>>96219643Yes it does, please continue with this style.
>>96219643Yes, higher contrast and more interesting to look at, go with the new one.

Speaking of basing: I'm trying to decide between a couple of potential basing schemes for my Bretonnians (Pictured are the Unit champions/Sergeat-at-arms/a musician for my army (may be used for mordheim also)). I was thinking "Forest floor", but I need to think of specifics. How do those birch seed leaves hold up? What snow effects are the "best"? (I'm considering winter/autumn), would it instead be more interesting/striking to base around everyone being stood in a wheat field? (If so: What options do I have for that?) Suggestions are welcome, basing is something I've always found hard.
>>96219526 (OP)>What would you make the 2 starter armies for a theoretical Old World 2nd edition.?Skaven and Lizardmen
I never had the opportunity to compare, but holy hell, resin recasts are so much smaller than the originals
>>96219816Had to save cost, goy.
>>96219745if you wanted the birch seeds to stay 100% stuck and not shed you could put a dab of superglue on each one to attach it, durability wise ive generally found that anything on the bases is protected by the mini stood on them so nothing really gets rubbed off or damaged.
As for snow it depends what kind youre looking for, Ak snow sprinkles is pretty good for melty/wet snow, I think snoow microballoons are for thicker crunchy snow but ive never used them
>>96219526 (OP)>>TQ:>What would you make the 2 starter armies for a theoretical Old World 2nd edition.?tomb kings and bretonnia again
this time with all new miniatures except the hero on pegasus and the hero on bone dragon
>>96219526 (OP)>TQLizardmen vs Tilea/Estalia
>>96219526 (OP)>TQLizardmen vs Dark Elves
>>96220004This is a good pick and feels natural
>>96220004>Lizardmen vs Dark ElvesShowing those liggers what non-retarded mounts look like
>>96220014I'd rather have both factions get their 3 types of cold ones cavalry units.
>>96219526 (OP)Empire versus empire cmon give me my HH starters. Ulric versus sigmar its what everyone wants. Legacy shit can come alter.
>>96220062I also like this but only if they redo the basic empire sculpts (melee and missile troops) and give them puffy sleeves and no stupid missing shoes (and also not half women because you just know you cannot trust GW at present to be sensible)
>>96220048Can you rank the AoS ones up properly? In any case, 40 bucks per 3 riders is brutal.
>>96220014If they ever do a new Lizard box, it should have a new Saurus Warriors/Temple Guard kit, a new Kroxigor kit and new Cold One Riders.
>Just use the old models. They would easily the most outdated looking kits. Make new kits for the army and actually base the new designs on the art 7th-8th edition art for the Lizardmen.
>>96220135I agree, but there is no chance in hell GW are not just re-releasing the old kits.
>>96220135>make new kits for standard coreNo. They'll either make new things for things that didnt exist yet or something that had their mould broken.
>>96220151Someone needs to take one for the team, go to England and break some molds then.
Does anyone know where I can get recasts of dark elf metals? BMM only has a few. Looking for the characters on cold ones, specifically.
>>96220062Absolutely deranged, everyone does not want a box catered toward one army lol. Empire fags are insufferable
Finally got paid and deciding if to buy these Chaos Ogres for my Chaos army. Thoughts?
It's a split between these guys or the Chaos Ogre command set.
>>96220237unless ur going for a distinctly oldhammer look I would still rather convert my own from ironguts
>>96220062Nobody cares for empire. This is not 40k.
>>96220277>>96220229They need to reinforce the time period of the old world. It would spike popularity 10 fold. They need to be able to stand next to cathay and kislev models without being mogged.
>>96220260I like the Oldhammer sculpts honestly. Choice between the previous one or this.
>>96220118>Can you rank the AoS ones up properly?yes...
>>96220333...but
the good news is that nobody would bat an eye of you had them count as two models each
Switching armies for a change.
>>96220289No it wouldn't spike popularity lol, this isn't 40k where every other person has a space marine army. The setting doesn't revolve around the empire. Why is every empire fag absolutely deranged?
Any Skavenbros here? I'm wondering how many Rat Ogres would be the optimal amount to have in a unit. I'm thinking 4-5 seems good.
>>96220432>The setting doesn't revolve around the empire. It kinda does, I'm not a massive fanboy of the Empire, but it's the location of the setting with the most lore, history and detail put into it a lot of that's due to WFRP, but it's also where most of the protagonists of BL books come from it's were great deal of the campaigns were set like Storm of Chaos, Nemesis Crown, Sigmars Blood, even the End Times despite being ostensibly occurring around the world was mostly focused on either the Empire or Ulthuan.
The Empire is Warhammer Fantasy, whether you like it or not.
>>96220135It's going to get really weird if tow and aos both start releasing updated models for the same units, I feel like they want to keep selling old kits where possible, and keep the new sculpts for armies without aos equivalents (brets, tomb kings, empire, ...)
>>96220432Total war and its consequences
>>96220492Agreed and also you can tell by reason of how relegated bretonnia had typically been compared to it despite both being potential human default protagonist factions
>>96220432Cathay selling out proves that people care more about humans than some shitty dinosaurs or tacked on Egyptian skeletons.
>>96220521Hey retard consider also that they have brand new sculpts and good rules, while TK and lizardmen are still stuck with models as ancient as they are in-lore
>>96220521I don't know many people who play TOW and bought Cathay models. From my circle it's mostly AoS players who bought them to use them as some AoS proxy. This is just anecdotal and the real test will be if we see them get play in tournaments and events. We also need to see if they will be a mainstay army or if people just like them because they are new and will get bored instantly once new plastic sheen wears off.
>>96220521Okay? That means nothing for empire specifically lol
What would be some fun allies to bring into a khornate chaos force?
>>96220492I'd call the Empire the 'viewpoint faction'. The setting is mostly seen from the perspective of the Empire - all the dates given default to the Imperial calendar. Magic is defined in relation to however the Empire does it: Battle Magic, Elementalism, Illusionism etc in TOW, the Eight Lores later. We call the moons 'Morrslieb' and 'Mannslieb', not 'Gormlhune' and 'Mornalhune'.
Some people say 'protagonist faction', but that's dumb. It's a setting, not a story and while some factions have a greater role to play on the global stage, it's your guys who are the protagonists. But the Empire provides the reader/player with a window into the world.
>>96220772Being the viewpoint faction does mean the setting revolves around that faction though
It's finally out. They were really cutting it close to release it by the end of the month.
>>96220822Not necessarily. Factions like High Elves or Chaos have more impact on the course of history or on the fate of the setting. The Dragon Emperor has large scale plans for the world. Karl-Franz is concerned with stopping the Elector Counts squabbling with each other.
In a way, the lower stakes make it a better viewpoint though. It's a nation of normal people, not gods and monsters.
Obviously in the End Times it all goes SIGMARSIGMARSIGMAR, but that's as much because GW want a fantasy God-Emperor as it is that Grunburg is of pivotal importance to... anything.
>>96220881TOW is building to the great war against chaos, where the empire was the lynchpin.
>>96220492>The Empire is Warhammer Fantasyboth the high elves and goblins have featured in the starter sets twice unlike the empire
>>96220492And that's a good thing because the Empire is rad.
>my friend who got me into TOW cause of Cathay finally has time to play in person
>I got so hyped I bought a whole second hand army, rules etc
>guy can't bloody finish the Cathay box before Sunday
Really? Is it that bloody hard to put it all together? It's plastic
>>96220893And who did the High Elves send to this most important battle for the fate of the world? Three mages, because they couldn't spare anyone else after Finuval Plain.
The Great War Against Chaos was important for the Old World and the Empire as the position from which the reader views the world. That's why we care about the 12th Everchosen. But there were at least eight more Everchosen we know nothing about, presumably because they attacked places that weren't the Empire.
>>96220893No, it will be cathay. Empire is too fractured an incompetent
>>96220933>playing with over 50% unpainted minisCringe
>>96220964All my minis are painted, unless you meant him, where yes it is cringe.
>>96220958Empire will make it, just needs an ugly bastard to come and fix it
>>96219526 (OP)TQ: Chaos goblins, inspired by the old 1st. edition pe-slottabase minis and the old Realms of Chaos-rules.
>>96220881>The Dragon Emperor has large scale plans for the worldAll this new Cathay fluff just gets funnier when you remember the End Times and AoS just around the corner
>>96220940Umm chief do you actually know the lore of the great war?? Of magnus?
He literally saved the world. It's not just a 1 off event the empire and teclis carried
>>96220934Just check drivethru
I have no idea how to custimize the new cathay warriors. They seem impossible to customize.
>>96220339I guess add a unit spacer behind them, if anyone complains, go for spme trees/ brushes though I'd try and find some shitty toy dino's to put there
>>96220933Don't have the box but I know Specialist Games kits love their bits tiny and every model to need like 20 so actually it wouldn't surprise me
>>96221065It's important but there are many different times the world has been saved. We focus on the ones that were most important to the Empire because we care about the Empire, not because the Empire is the only one that is important.
Do you see the difference? The fall of Nehekhara and the death of Nagash is equally important but we're not going to have a campaign about that.
>>96221168Focusing on the empire doesn't exclude others importance, it just means this setting is focused on the empire and the old world. I can say the lizards are arguably after HElfs the most important faction but are less important for the story or setting that's presented.
>>96219643Looks great. Almost like the soil is wet after a rain. Really cool contrast.
Am I correct in this interaction?
>Armour of the Damned
>Forces rerolls to hit which succeed
>Hatred
>Allows missed hits to be rerolled first turn
>Interaction
>Missed rolls are rerolled once and successful hits are rerolled once
Is that right?
>>96221065>He literally saved the worldwhat was asavar kul's plan to kill the world again?
>>96221284Before the Preyton, 100%
wonder if C7 or GW will show anything at Gencon this year
>>96221273He's chaos, it's a given he's a puppet at some level and the chaos gods want to chaos the world which for non chaos is essentially destruction no matter how chaos winning appears for chaos.
hello im looking for a rapist army
in the absence of fimir, are beastmen or goblins or something else the rapiest?
>>96221316Beastmen easily
>>96221183Yeah, I agree.
My point was just that focus faction is not the same as most important (to the world) faction.
>>96221306They have a livestream on Sat, so we'll get an idea then.
>>96221308>He's chaosbut he wasn't the true everchosen destined to destroy the world, so he couldn't possibly destroy the world
he had no plan for it, it was just a BIG raid, not a world ending threat, perhaps an empire ending threat, but not a world ending one.
>okay maybe I'll get the cathay battalion after all after lots of thinking
>out of stock
Is fate trying to tell me something?
>>96221349>true EverchosenNo such thing, you're either Everchosen or not.
I'm sure the End Times did some gay shit to present Archaon as the extra specialist of all, but every Everchosen considered themselves to be the one that would ultimately be successful. None of them were like 'guess I'm just a stopgap measure who's going to fail because I'm not the true Everchosen'.
>>96221483>4000/10,000 sokdiers survive>have to eat the populous>decisive victoryIn what world?
>>96221349As
>>96221487 says the great war against chaos was presented as a world ending event, that was the largest incursion of historical (for humans) time. Also
>just raid the empireHe flattened Kislev and wanted to burn it all. You think if the empire, brettonia, wood elves, dwarfs all rolled over he had stopped? The man who craved challenge, combat, and glory to his gods would say "ah that's my quota back to the north?" Nah he from what lore we have about him (excluding archeons which obviously is aimed to puff him up) he wanted to burn it all. Chaos goal is the same.
>>96221487>considered themselvesbut none of them was the TRVE everchosen, only people who thought they were the real deal, while the only real deal was the one prophesied by whatshisname the mad.
the goal of the other everchosen wasn't to destroy the world either, that's just archaon's nihilistic ass, they were just thinking they were competing to get crowned the very best dude do the biggest raid they could in the name of the gods.
>>96221540>the great war against chaos was presented as>the largest incursion of historical (for humans) timecorrect
>a world ending eventwrong
>>96221564What happens if chaos wins the great war anon?
>>96221556Yeah, and every time you shoot and miss the bullseye it wasn't your TRUE shot. They were all aiming for the End Times, Archaon was just the first to succeed (and you don't get to see the ones who didn't get to try).
>>96219816That's entirely down to scaling and materials. You can get 1:1 easily if you actually own the mini and can compare (or know it's dimensions).
>>96221606They shit up the place and then eventually retreat or fall into infighting or move elsewhere or establish a chaos empire in the old world
in any case the world continues
>>96221725>They were all aiming for the End TimesNo, they weren't, only archaon was, the other everchosen were just aiming for the top spot of the path to glory
>>96219643I really like your ostermark guys, and base idea. I may poorly imitate it.
>>96221857>they link up with attack on Ulthuan>nothing happensSure anon, suuuurrreee.
>>96221898>>they link up with attack on Ulthuanthey didn't do that
>>96221920Why didn't they chaostard?
>>96220983fuckugly modern computer asssited art
>>96219526 (OP)>TQOrcs vs Empire. It's the classic matchup, and I'm a sucker for it. Knowing GW it'd be some weird new army like DoW vs a range refresh though.
I need advice anons. At what point does getting a magic weapon on a BlOrc Warboss offset losing Choppas? I'm getting the charge very consistantly vs my normal opponents, and while my original thought was whacking a bezerker blade on him for the +1S +1 Attack with no downside, losing out on ANY anti armour capability feels really bad when a Great weapon is only 4 points, particularly when he carves through most combats in 1 or 2 turns maximum. Thoughts? Have some (badly photographed) orcs as tribute.
>>96221316Beastmen,
I say this as a beastchad myself
>>96221955Magnus has never not been an ugly bastard anon, even his original art by Adrian Smith shows that
>>96222122I don't think that's what he meant, though that Adrian Smith design is far superior regardless.
>>96222122>>96222311Yes, a drawn image of an ugly bastard is better than a Computer assisted art of an ugly bastard
>>96221930because ending the world wasn't their goal
that's the goal of archaon, not of all everchosen
>>96221991Out of curiosity how do you do your checkered patterns? I free handed mine with a brush but have come to accept it as a pretty shit way of doing it.
>>96222122Yes but
>Adrian Smith Magnus>Heavily weathered, stern and austere man>perfect posture>Of his virtue he is justly proud (Et tibi Pater)and
>Computer-aided Magnus>fat, flabby jowls>slumped in his saddle>probably a nonce
>>96222696If we go by Genevieve in Drachenfells, Magnus was always a bit of a nonce
>>96222521They are the champions of the chaos gods, whose explicit goals is to end the world as we know it. Every single one of them is a thrall to this, whether they admit it or not, that every action is furthering this goal. The great incursion wished to destroy the only bulwarks against this end threat, via destroying the empire/dawi/other human realms and bringing the chaos wastes so south none could stop the end times, and/or undoing the vortex in Ulthuan (per usual). If they won either, chaos would rain down upon the globe and life would be unable to resist. If the old world falls ulthuan cannot stand against the combined forces. It would be the apocalypse like in end times. This has been the goal for chaos every single time, from sigmars to Franz, to even the gates original incursion saved only by the elves and dwarves.
The fact you obtusuely refute your own factions lore is basically chaos cope
>>96222521It was, it was just that they wanted to destroy the world for the glory of Chaos, Archaon wanted to destroy it because he hates existence and believes that if the world ends, Chaos dies along with it

Does anyone even care for the lore for the items characters can buy
>>96222589Not him but I used to use a felt pen. Imagine a very finely tipped sharpie. Transfer also work well for checkered patterns.
>>96222589Sorry to tell you, it's a very fine tipped brush and a steady hand. The trick is not worrying if they arn't perfect, because when they're on the table the effect makes them all look a lot more uniform than they actually are up close.
>>96223227Your heroes are heroes, in my mind it makes sense for them to have ransacked a tomb/ killed an enemy champion and taken their weapon/ been gifted a powerful sword from their lords armoury. For campaign play I do like there being objectives that give you a magic item you take forward with you though, rather than getting any (other than ubiquitous ones) at army creation.
>>96223227Sometimes I do.
>>96222853>whose explicit goals is to end the world as we know itno, it's not their explicit goal, their champions fight for very different reasons, mostly for individual power, they are never consciously and willfully hellbent on the goal of ending the world
>and/or undoing the vortex in Ulthuan (per usual)which is why asavar kul and all the other everchosen attacked ulthuan to end the world right?
oh wait, they didn't
>>96221316Goblins don't have dicks, so beastmen. Goblins will however shove things in your ass and puss to torture you.
>>96223429>no one attacked ulthuan The first one did, or did before they started retconning and still can be assumed to be his end goal before sigmar smashed him.
>it doesn't matter if they are forced to end the world waaahIt doesn't matter because the ever chosen, aka the harbinger of what? Oh yeah, the apocalypse, is chosen to try and take down the world which is the explicit goal or chaos. You don't get to be a puppet and think you're in control. It's also been stated multiple times the empire is the last and only bulwark to chaos victory since again, the high elves cant do it alone. If they fall, it's more or less over. And if magnus failed, ulthuan couldn't stop Kul that's why they sent teclis and co.
It's like you are trying to be retarded on purpose.
>>96223572>aka the harbinger of what? Oh yeah, the apocalypsethat's only archaon's title, not the title of all everchosen.
>>96223572>It's also been stated multiple times the empire is the last and only bulwark to chaos victoryalso no, it's not
>>96223901It's the title of the everchosen. Unless you can find something saying everchosen weren't called as such until archeaon, then it's probably the title. Given all the retcons it's possible but headcanon doesnt count
>the empire falls doesn't end the worldIt's been alluded to in novels and in empire books- without the empire, dwarves are finished off, brettonia can't handle things alone, and high elves lacking trade and resources are doomed next invasion. Lizards are already weak. Empire is ironically the order anvil which takes the brunt of things due to being rhe largest and closest to chaos. Also, nothing stops the encroachment of the realm of chaos to a Critical mass as we saw in the end times.
Now you moved goalposts ans been wrong several times, at this point it's clear your either trolling or out of your element entirely. A everchosen victory doesn't end in Kul sipping tea in altdorf ls ruins till he peacefully passes away, and each one was a serious attempt to end the world. At least the 4 or 5 actually give lore.
Now, you can fuck off lorelet.
>the largest army of chaos since Sigmar's time, 2000 years ago invades
>the Horned Rat himself comes down to tell skaven we can win big get your shit ready
>beastmen shamans have visions it's all over
>dark elves coordinate to lock down the high elves
>Kul believes it's the end
>skaven, beastmen, and all humans think it's the end of times to the point they stop bickering (yes all 3 of those factions)
>the gods themselves actively push their sides with desperation
>largest, world shattering events occur
>chaos daemons howl in anticipation of their final victory.
>some anon says "uhhh it's just like a big raid or something chaos wasn't serious"
Holy shit do chaos fans really believe this?
>>96219526 (OP)Dwarves vs Gobbs
This should also be the start of proper army refreshes, with each side getting 6-8 new plastic kits. I don't know what the gobbos would want, but Dwarves are in a right state and need some metal replaced with solid, dependable plastic.
>40 years later and people are still trying to argue chaos loses
Autistic chaoswank was literally baked into the setting since day one. Chaos is never trying, they could blink reality out of existence if they wanted, it's all them having fun "le great game", and the lorewriters have repeatedly said the fact the empire or humanity or anything at all exists is because the chaos gods are permitting it to. They're the creators' favorite faction, all current writers' favorite faction, and they've been laden with plot armor since the setting's inception.
Just play with the overpriced plastic army men made in sweat shops and stop arguing in circles ad nauseam about what is truly some of the dumbest lore in the history of fictional storytelling.
>>96220933he ain't just cutting whole Night Goblins off the sprue here, mate.
>>96224043Chaos is trying to have fun and that's what I appreciate about it.
>>96220933the basic troops, horses, and cannon arent that bad. shugenmo lad is also pretty straight forward
but the sentinel.
if he bought the sentinel, god help him. that fucker took me 3 straight days of hobby time to build, and i've been building models for 20 years. its as bad as everyone says if not worse. a single lower leg portion from the ankle to the knee is 12 parts split vertically like a banana with 2 layers of peel. nevermind that the instructions are just straight up wrong or missing steps in a few places.
>>96224122Makes it difficult to care about anyone/anything else though desu. It sometimes comes off like GW legitimately hates everyone else in its fictional world except Chaos.
>>96220521But the skeletons are humans.
>>96222727What would a Bretonnian tart know about that?
>>96224045CAD shit, as usual
>>96224152The problem with chaos is the more they fleshed it out, the more retarded it got. All they needed to do is keep it this inevitable, creeping, doom that forever will haunt people. Instead they kept wanking it over and over until it became a flanderized cartoon group of villians flip flopping between utterly incompetent jackasses or Uber Mary sue levels of winning.
>>96224368Literally my only problem with them is the feet. A two part torso, a three part torso, all that's fine as long as you can snip off all those parts, clean them up, and then assemble them at random. And then attach arms and head as desired.
When you have to be looking at the instructions for every single line troop model because foot 117 attaches to body 45 and if you fuck up and attach it to to body 83 you've ruined the kit, that shit sucks so bad.
What's a good source of Dwarves with visible legs? I just did the new Gotrek model and I quite liked the fact he has knees you can see.
Non-GW stuff is okay too. I looked at the LotR ones but they weren't wide enough, they looked like shrunken dudes rather than proper Dwarves. Oathmark looks like it might have what I'm looking for but I'm curious as if to anyone here has experience with those guys or tried anything better.

>chaos itself cannot die>chaos characters can, do, and are usually retarded af and fail or lose spectacularly all the time. Often within their own stories.12 everchosens getting bfto didn't diminish the gods but certainly these men lost and failed in the mission nonetheless.
Bruh we're fucking dead. Is it because summer is over? anyways, who in the setting has a hard on for Nagash? Was it just settra? Did aborash have any dynamics there?
>>96224043the โchaoswankโ in the setting was usually just commentary on the inherit nature of entropy, death, and the futility of all things. itโs a nihilistic outlook but everything dies and succumbs in the end, thatโs the point. chaos always wins โthe long warโ. (this is lifted straight from old mythological tropes but w/e)
>>96224976Nagash is a cuck bitch who spitefully cursed vampires in the most childish ways because he assumed they would listen to his beta ass.
>come help me brethren of the night! >fuck off Nagash >NOOOOO YOU WONT BE ABLE TO STEP INTO THE SUN YOU TRAITORS NOOOOOWhat a bitch.
>>96224025dwarves and gobbos donโt need a refresh when the setting is still missing vamps, lizards, skaven AND dark elves
Cathay isnโt even finished yet to boot, theyโre missing loads of units that made their way into total war
>>96225090Where it differs is that most mythological and religious stories focus on the futility and inevitable nature of physical existence as opposed to a better eternal metaphysical existence. In Warhammer it's literally life sucks and then you die and then your soul is buttraped by demons forever, so you really can't even get a "I'm gonna fight for Sigmar because he'll protect me in the next life" sort of motivation. The only winning move for the Warhammer multiverse is to never exist.
Actually, I don't think there's a setting more excessively nihilistic. Lovecraft is a happy picnic compared to Warhammer. But I guess some people are still able to find a point to engage with in it or actively enjoy that.
>>96225103>betray the most talented magic user ever >he curses you >get mad>???

>>96225109yeah I donโt disagree, WHF takes old religious tropes and dispenses with the โredemptiveโ aspects but keeps the realer stuff and I like it for that. like in egyptian myths the serpent is always trying to eat the world and most peoples souls are eaten for being bad by the hippo guarding the afterlife, things like that. but in warhammer they up the ante and get rid of the possible safety of a โheavenโ: chaos is actively invading the real space of the world and trying to end it in a very physical way. itโs a fun inversion
>>96225136not that guy but itโs a bit silly to bite the hand that feeds you (maintains and created your unlife)
>>96225143>This isn't 40kFantasy, 40k, and AoS are all canonically the same setting. 40k is actually the "core" setting with AoS being a microdimension in the Warp and Fantasy being a planet in the 40k galaxy.
>>96225175fandomlore wankery
>>96225175No, it's not retard and they've even said such. They like to give nods no more. AOS is the successor of fantasy but essentially the rules reset- which btw AoS not all souls go to chaos either
Also the lore is so contradictory between the 2 settings it's not even reconciliable.
Is the slaughterbrute best used as a gigantic chaos spawn?
>>96225109>Where it differs is that most mythological and religious stories focus on the futility and inevitable nature of physical existence as opposed to a better eternal metaphysical existence.I mean I wouldn't say most abrahamic religions and Buddhism are the only ones that feature an easy or eventually eternal reward. Most afterlifes were consider just the next place you go to after you die not a higher plane of enlightenment / eternal paradise.
>>96225175Incorrect. The entire 40k universe is in a glass jar on a forgotten shelf in a wizard's tower somewhere in the Empire.
What do you guys think will happen to Old World in 2 years? Do you think they'll 3 year cycle it and fuck up the rules like what just happened to horus heresy?
>>96225624Horus heresy got a 3rd edition after 3 years not because it was popular, or because it was a stream of untapped potential, but because hh2 was overall a fucking mess and clearly unfinished, the people who planned out hh2 either died or moved away by the end of 1.
Tow will not enter a 3 year cycle, or 4, maybe 5.
>>96225639and hh3 is even more of a fucking mess and clearly unfinished. It was 100% just because sales increased a ton due to the new plastics, 40kfags eat those up just as much as heresy players which leads to suits thinking it is a worthy investment. If Old World continues to do well financially they may approach it the same way. Thinking GW makes any decision with the health of the ruleset as a game in mind rather than solely being about profit and releasing what will make numbers go up for the investors to clap and cheer at is incredibly stupid

The artists refuse to refer to historical sources and keep generating this gobbledygook shit that doesn't properly work and doesn't refer to the historical inspirations of the cultures. I'm talking really about the Empire and Bretonnia.
If the artists can't look at a picture of late 15th or 16th century armour in the Year of the Internet of 2025 then what are the chances of new models repeating the stupid Bretonnian designs? Or inventing new kinds of retarded shit?
Don't tell me I'm being too autistic. If I was LESS autistic I wouldn't have models in the first place.
>>96226601>*militia with all of their posessions on themi dont mind that stuff but it should be optional stuff u can stick on
>>96227240The artist is just basing it on the model GW currently sell for the Empire. It's the case with most GW products that they base the artwork on the model rather than historical accuracy
I wonder if they underproduced the battalion boxes for cathay in order to get more people to actually buy the individual kits when they become separate
>>96227240okay but who cares? You will not be missed.

And even then you can just find far better alternatives. Really why give a shit about TOW at all besides kits being available again and not having to deal with the shitty second hand market? Obviously all the new fluff is complete shite.

I kind of wondered whether this was a dumb thing to be inspired by, but the fact that so many actual artists are unable to replicate the forms even when they try makes me think that, yes, my admiration is probably warranted.
There's something about the marriage of form and function that most fantasy artists just don't get. They can't even tell what's wrong.

>hey, this artwork for a horse C7 used for the book looks familiar
>>96229023Well I'm a little familiar with 40k and MESBG so here's my best
>unit size much bigger ND lethality more towards MESBG meaning morale, breaking, and flanking is important. It's called "baby's first rank and flank" for a reason. > Heros much more impactful than 40k, back to MESBG, but the balance between beatstick and buffbot is more varied as again larger units means more bonuses >It's slower than either but not too bad- more grinding but lack of deployment shit like 40k means you're not constantly running around (unless wood elf) and having to keep track of objectives all over the place. Scenarios are mostly simple>that said, many rules can be silly like crumbling getting regen. Kind of like 40k where RAI doesn't always trump RAW.Overall I'd say it's a less flexible in deployment and movement than MESBG (as expected for a formation based game) with more depth and scale but a emphasis on units, combat res, grinding, and Heros being customizable than MSEBGs Heros which tend to stick to archetypes. And it's certainly cheaper, cleaner game than 40k but being a rank and flank and less lethal means it's not the all over huge swings 40k tends to do these days. Just my 2 cents

initially I was giving for granted it was lifted from the arcane journal for the empire or from one of the other TOW rulebooks since it reminded me of the new artworks gw is making for the plastic units' packagings, but it's not from anywhere else
at this point my gut feeling is leaving me wondering if it could be possible the empire will get a plastic kit for a knight grand master, and the tow rpg just got to use the artwork ahead of time due to a misalignment of timeframes
>>96229113I appreciate the input anon, thanks!

How physically strong are stormvermin compared to the average human?
Are skaven able to move upwards through skaven society or are they born into their roles?
>>96227687criminally bad taste
let me guess, you think primaris are cool too?
>>96229470Well, the problem with historicals is the lack of players. I personally prefer more grounded armour designs, with the designers preferably having studied historicals arms and armour. The Perrys (PBUT) for example were into re-enactment and knew how to handle a pike, this influenced some of their dogs of war sculpts.
>>96227611Nice velataris storm section.
>>96229537>Do Skaven take captives? The answer is a resounding yes
So much so that not a few stories mention the eerie emptyness of places after the skaven have attacked a town, and that skaven are one of the few armies with a unit profile for their slaves
Generally skaven slaves will most often be other skaven, for the rats wage wars amongst themselves way more than they do with the surface dwellers, but they take all kinds of slaves of various races, who often have an even worse time because they're not as resistant to warpstone as skaven are
>>96229537>are they just for eating or used for laborYes.
>How strong are storm verminA bit stronger than the baseline human, on par with elites
>are skaven born into roles or move up?Yes, but much more the latter than former.
>>96229537>Do Skaven take captives? They take slaves and you're much better off killing yourself than letting them take you. It's usually even worse than being caught by dark elves.
>Are they just for eating or are they used for labor? Both
>How physically strong are stormvermin compared to the average human?I think it depends slightly on the source, but generally about the same.
>>96229537The colour of a skaven's fur determines a lot about their lot in life. But theoretically if you stab enough backs at the right times, there is some level of upward mobility as long as you're not a slave.

>>96229654I think there's a bit of overlap in what we are talking about here. We often criticise modern GW designs for being copies of copies, basically fanboys raised on Warhammer with little knowledge of the real world and classic fantasy inspirations for the now-iconic designs.
Can you guys give Perry anon more attention
>>96229688Empire uses everything from matchlock to breechload but generally seem to hover around match/flint
>>96229537>Do Skaven take captives? yes
>Are they just for eating or are they used for labor?yes
>How physically strong are stormvermin compared to the average human?they vary a lot in size from being slight below human height to exceptionally hulking individuals, generally they're probably akin to an average human soldier, but the archetype is somewhat above that, they're meant to be truly elite in skaven society
>Are skaven able to move upwards through skaven society or are they born into their roles?the roles most commonly assigned at birth are breeder (for females), seer (for albino horned rats), stormvermin (for black fur), but in the case of the latter the black fur is more of an association with skaven that are born larger and more aggressive than some kind of obligatory link, chances are that if you are born strong enough you end up getting raised as a stormvermin regardless
the rest is fairly meritocratic: achieve enough successes and cause your bosses to have enough insuccesses, and you get vertical mobility and breeding rights

>>96229788by the most literal definition of the word, the vast majority of skaven are involuntary celibate because the skaven in power hoard the female skaven and gatekeep who can get to them.
Now, whether that means the incel skaven don't develop sexual urges until they get to meet a skaven female due to absence of female pheromones or whatever, or whether they have sexual urges nonetheless and end up acting on them by raping anything else with a hole (which would generally be some other male skaven underling) is a matter that no official material will ever explore.

The problem with fantasy armor isn't that it doesn't look exactly like historical armor(though that wouldn't hurt) it's that even a cursory understanding of historical armor shows how fucking shit 99% of designs are and that designers have no fucking clue what they're doing. Just do that bit of research and then see how you can incorporate fantasy elements.
>>96229865>obese smelly blue haired freaksftfy
>>96229865>>96229885Thatโs a good thing, chuddies

>>96229857It's debatable whether they would feel any real attraction towards the females of other races, considering how different their own females look, and assuming their "beauty standards" would result from them.
Maybe they would get the "thrill" of getting a (impossibly remote?) chance to breed, but aside from that I think they would rape indiscriminately both men and women of othe races.
Maybe they would feel a certain weird attraction towards ogres and giants, or very big and very fat women, at most.
But it's all so disgusting to consider I think it's way better to assume they just don't have any sexual instinct until they get close to a skaven female.
Makes it all much more restrained, we have other races for gratuitous rapes.
>>96230028>we have other racesJust the Beastmen innit?

>>96230096>wat is suspension of disbelief
>>96224379>>96228376I think a big part of the problem is they have a history of irrelevance and losing, and yet are painted as the big world ending threat. Chaos couldn't even "win" when the entire world was saturated and their energy and Humans were cavemen and Elves and Dwarfs has no idea what they were doing. Now in the setting the winds of magic have been nerfed, and Humans are running around in giant nation states with cannons and tanks and we're supposed to believe that Chaos is somehow a bigger threat then ever when their last 12 Everchosen have never even made it past the Northern Hemisphere. Prior to ending the fucking world they somehow never managed to destroy a single country. Somehow it's even worse in 40k where they spend all their time hiding in the shittiest tiny corner of the galaxy and we're supposed to believe they're the biggest threat in a world were fucking Tyranids and Necrons exist.
>>96230096>>a lizard with wings flying despite clearly not being being able to physically do so??????nta and I don't really care about this conversation, so I'll go on a tangent:
I believe eastern dragons offer enough of a precedent to suggest that other draconic and/or magical creatures too may supplement their flight capabilities with magic, where their bodyplan or wings would be utterly insufficient
now the question is whether the first ancestor to true dragons was winged or not, because I'm led to think it would be, and that all non-winged dragons lost the wings later on during the evolution of the group, but then logically speaking the magical abilities would have had to come after the wings were already present, or otherwise they wouldn't have had the need for wings if they could fly with magical powers alone
meaning the ancestor of dragons was a way smaller winged version of them that could fly without magic

I like how TOWRPG basically doesn't mention what family Ludwig XII is from. The Player's guide very reluctantly says he's 'Ludwig Grunermensch' off-hand but it's never mentioned again despite every other noble having their house front and centre of their identity.
I'd wager it's because GW literally didn't bother to give him a name so C7 just made one up based on his heraldry (a green man). What a mess.

Also I just want to say I don't mind the idea of the world being dark and doomed, I just don't like the idea that Chaos is merely pretending to suck and be incompetent and could actually destroy everyone easily if they really wanted to. I also in general don't like that they are incompetent and all their invasions amount to literally nothing. Sure they kill a lot of people and burn things down, but they never actually wipe anything out. Partly that's the fault of the setting having everything important on the front lines, but surely Kislev or Cathy could of eaten shit and died to make them seem like more of an actual threat.

if you're assembling them with swords and shields then you can use the curved blades of the halberds or the speartips as decorative headpiece instead of the plumes
you can break and ruin some of the soldiers and paint them as terracotta auxiliaries
>>96233337Am I the only one who roles their eyes at the rule book for trying to make it mysterious what stopped Chaos? They hype up Grimnir and Kroak as being equal to Calador in stopping Chaos, but I don't buy it. He obviously didn't, and I don't see how he could of partially sealed it. I don't see how either could of actually effected anything beyond that, while the High Elves literally siphoned off all the fucking magic letting demons just pop up anywhere.
>>96233355What's interesting is that they made him a friend of caledor dragontamer, so I believe his quest to close the gate was done in an actually coordinated effort with his spell, rather than the two being done separately and incidentally helping one another.
>>96233391>but I don't buy it.your problem, really
the slann have long been established as helping the vortex massively by strengthening the geomantic web for it to work and were instrumental in containing the bulk of the demonic invasion at the poles, meanwhile grimnir didn't lose the northern gate but did find a third gate that was spewing demons and has been battling demons at that entrance, stopping them from crossing into the real world ever since, he didn't close the door, but he became effectively the door
the impression that both these feats seem small is from the fact the elven vortex was established first, and a time it was the only explanation for the defeat of the demons, but with these additions it is impossible to consider the vortex still autonomous and sufficient in this task, unless you really want to banter about elven superiority and importance, which is fine and dandy, but in terms of actual impartial discussions about the worldbuilding, it's not

All the color schemes seem to more or less track with their respective dragons, except for the northern and southern provinces that seem to be switched? GW made a point to mention that Miao Ying was aligned with life/water and that the chinese use black to represent that element, yet the fire guys are black while the water guys are red. My only guess is that green and red made for better contrast so it was chosen for the promotional images, and since Miao's faction are the posterboys, she got stuck with those colors.
