List building tends to boil down to identifying which units are good at being"anvils" and which are good "hammers" and then in game trying to outmaneovre your opponent, with a bit of risk/reward based on how well you can keep your line holding.
I have only played a couple games, so the above is just my impression from talking with more experienced players. I had fun with my games though.
