Did your GM not check with the group before rescheduling?

My group's been going strong for about ten years now. All bar two of the group work full-time, three of us are doctors, one is a vet+researcher+teaches at the uni. We still manage to get a game in pretty much every fortnight.

You have just to accept it happens and enjoy when you guys make it work.
I am occasionally BECMI-ing with people I used to play with when I was a child, reconnecting after decades.
It's a blessing, but you have to accept it's not going to be the 1-2 times per week now.
I would argue that if still you all can do frequently with no re-schedule, you are all either in a very good spot or in a very bad one.

Your game is every other week(weekly is too much, monthly isn't enough). It is either on Friday evening or Sunday afternoon. Friends/family will expect to be able to schedule things with you on Saturdays and on Sun-Thurs evenings everyone's dreading work the next day.

Don't ever reschedule. It leads to a lot of annoying back and forth and punishes the non-flakes. People need to have the game night firmly fixed in their mind. If someone can't make it, the shows goes on. If only 2-3 out of 6 show up, play a board game or put on Conan the Barbarian or Labyrinth instead.

Do some kind of roundtable recap before each session. And try to communicate between sessions with an app or group chat(this is actually one of the ways I filter people - the guy who wants you to send him a smoke signal because he's too cool for Discord or whatever probably won't be reliable).

>Learn to code.

See pic. I definitely agree with you about 2nd shift. It's a trap a lot of nerdy types fall into since they're more active at night and enjoy being able to work in peace since the higher level bossoids are gone.

I never knew how everyone else managed to find gaming groups before working. I had hundreds of potential games and campaigns fall apart because of college classes, and before that, responsibilities in high school. What was I doing wrong?

The more you demand of your brain the more it produces and viceversa. It sounds counter intuitive because you assume that if you had more free time you could be getting more done in that time, but you also know NEETs drown in a slog of never getting anything done.

This is the best advice ITT. I cancelled a game once, because a couple of key players couldn't show up and the next session even more people bailed out. It's like a curse.

I've been on both sides of the aisle. I can, have, and will inevitably again run a game for a single person because the key players are the ones that actually show up.

Playing before working is seen as evil because you're using your energy for unproductive things and you should only enjoy your day after you've earned it.

>Have a solid group.
>Half of them are parents.
>Just do a bi-weekly game schedule.
>When the DM's kid was born, step in as short-term DM, run a 1-shot-turned-4-session-campaign-because-they-over-complicate-their-own-plan.
>DM comes back for the final session of that, steps back in to finish the main campaign.

We've had this handled well enough for years now.

It's not flawless, and we've been lucky. The game group I run with on the alternate bi-weekly days has been flaky as hell, partly my scheduling, partly another player getting into a relationship.

It takes time, effort, dedication on the group's part, and sometimes it will still fall apart, but if you keep trying and putting yourself out there, you can find a crew that'll see you through to the end of years-long games.

I have run consistent games for 11 years now and only once have I had to cancel a session because of an emergency. Work, exercise, relationships etc are all easy to plan around and I consider anyone who fails to do this to be fucking annoying. The best players are people who show up reliably and on time.
