About Goonhammer from previous thread - I have a feeling that they are very biased about certain approaches like how they hate most 20-40p units for being "too expensive for competitive play", insist that every list must have 15 people or is automatically bad and have odd list making habits (when making example list for Kestrel they out almost entirely drones here and two Yamabushi, for reasons unknown to me).

Pretty sure most top players will tell you that dropping to even 14 is pretty niche and specific play. List build how you want, but sub-15 is generally very much not optimal.

Tell that to Military Orders, how could anyone design a sectorial where you cannot even field most of people because their cost cannot be offset with cheaper units?

Also, isn't it like second group is limited anyway and restricted to support and/or defensive activities? Like some remote you move to position and leave here to deter the enemy?

>how could anyone design a sectorial where you cannot even field most of people because their cost cannot be offset with cheaper units
MO has plenty of sub 20 point units to choose from.

Your second group should also be able to do something. If it's just two units that something is very limited whereas with 5 orders you might get an objective done. 15 troops is optimal because the game is won by doing things and the less orders you have the less you can do and the easier you fold under pressure. It's not complicated.

There's at least a couple of things to offset with in MO, including some pretty reasonable units and lots of cheerleading value for them. Second group is a good place to put things that will always draw a handful of orders if you have them - parachutists, smokers, a pitcher placer, some NCOs, etc.

New player interested in getting into Infinity, sorry in advance if this is a dumb question. I was reading up on the rules for stealth since the armies I'm interested in seem to have them, which then led to me reading up on cautious movement. It says you're allowed to use cautious movement so long as you start and stop your movement out of enemy line of fire, but it doesn't mention anything about passing through an enemy's LoF, so my question is does that mean it's possible to dip in and out of an enemy's LoF without generating an ARO (example of what I mean in pic related in two different scenarios). I'd assume that it IS possible but just want to 100% make sure.

Also other question; how useful is stealth? Reading about it gives me the impression it seems kinda strong, but since I don't have any games under my belt I don't know how often it'd be practically useful. What is it's real application beyond just moving around without getting shot at? I really like the idea of running lots of stealthy/sneaky guys for some true wetwork shennanigans.
Anonymous No.96285106 [Report] >>96285240
>>96284885
's the point of cautious movement. Biggest thing with stealth honestly is hacking area movement, but you can also do it to pull tricks like moving around behind an enemy to approach from out of LoF without triggering a dodge ARO that they could use to turn and face you.
Anonymous No.96285240 [Report] >>96285282
>>96285106
Interesting, I hadn’t thought much of hacking as a threat, will have to keep in mind cheers. Guess that’s why so many stealth units also seem to have killer hackers… The dodge thing you mentioned and I guess melee’ing an enemy from behind are really the only other direct uses for stealth I can imagine currently but that still seems useful enough to warrant wanting.

I imagine stealth “fireteams” are a bit hard and unwieldy to run right? I’m sure a duo could probably be worth it (something like a Firefly duo) but anything bigger probably would just make them too easy to get caught out and picked off yeah?

I don't think I've ever run across a stealthing Haris, and can't really picture when or why I would. Might be a cool trick for a duo, but yeah I don't think big link play with it is going to be useful.

Makes sense, trying to cautious move with a conga line is probably a nightmare.
>Might be a cool trick for a duo, but yeah I don't think big link play with it is going to be useful.
That helps narrow down who I was thinking of going with then. Was looking at either Shindenbutai, Imperial Service or Kestrel. Shinden can potentially run a core stealth team but if there ain’t much point may as well stick with singles and duos and decide based on that.

Fair. I’m assuming it’d probably help to change the minelayer firefly into an engineer to support everything and grab a tech bee also since she seems cheap points wise also and buffs the TAG. Should I look into getting a killer hacker of some kind, or can I rely on EVO hacks and normal hacking to keep everything under control? I’ve yet to play a game so I’m not sure how predominant or useful this kind of stuff is over just bringing more guns.

That's the thing: she's fast enough that you don't need to drop her with combat jump, you can just deploy her normally if you feel like it to get an extra order. Tournament and event data is all we have to go off of, and obviously that isn’t a totally accurate way to measure overall popularity. That being said, the most populous tournament this year (81 participants, held in Germany) had Haqqislam, CA, and YJ as the three most common. Looking at the US tournaments, CA is the most popular, followed by PanO and then a tie between Nomads and JSA.

Like I said, tourney data isn’t wholly accurate, but it’s something.

I think that local scene may vary wildly. From brief check at mine, at least few years ago CA was absolutely dominating, with YJ, Ariadna and Haqq behind and PanO having bad reputation of being "only good at shooting".

Personally, I have yet to play actual "big" game instead of demo + one 150p, but CA seems to be rather overpowered compared to the rest - lots of cheap options to fuel very powerful expensive profiles that will easily wipe the floor with others.

Sadly, the site I used, infinitythedata, only lists events for this year. The other data site, infinitythemeta, doesn't seem to list specific tournament data and instead looks at all the data from various tournaments of a given type, which makes sense since the site seems more interested in tracking matchups.

I see Bakunin event bundles still emerging on the secondary market for a decent price (in this case ~90 bucks). Would it make a decent starting list? Can I play a full game without any extra purchases for a long time or will I miss some unit options that are pretty much obligatory to not get stomped when I bring my dudes to LGS?
Anonymous No.96316602 [Report] >>96317940

Technically it can make a complete list, but realistically you're, at a minimum, going to also want some remotes.

You can proxy various S2 sized models as other S2 sized things, so you wouldn't necessarily need to make purchases to branch into those, but the remotes are S3 and S4.

It might seem that way until you play (against) them. Yes, the charontid/anathematic/nourkias/etc. are crazy strong on their own, but also very expensive. You can counter them in a number of ways, most intuitively killing their order supply, hitting them with e/m-ammo, or with low-tech stuff like coordinated surprise attacks, smoke-shoots or yoloing a combat jumper into cc (note: don't do this against their CC monsters) and watch them struggle to break free.
N4 and N5 gave even pano tools to effectively deal with them, and when in doubt you can always drop a discoball on them and make them blind. You win by playing the objective over everything else.

Also again, use e/m. Without their monsters (mostly 2 per list) their cheap ordergoons do nothing, and without their cheerleaders the monsters might as well be aro turrets.

Every faction has their own ways to counter them, so unless you're sval, just use your funky stuff

Well, my first 150p game was my PanO against CA and while I can't recall actual names, it was painful - barely shot down some exploding beast in safe distance, then had to deal with some unit restoring wounds in CC that avoided most AROs while my Teutonic failed all his dodge rolls and finally save rolls against flamethrower continuous damage. Plus, even when killed their Lt, most of his army was immune to LoL anyway. Oh and it was Firefight.

Zond Remotes. Those are basic.

TNA but standard REMs come in the Zonds Remotes Pack, building them as Stemplers does the most to cover many purposes but maybe look at running one as a Reaktion or Vertigo depending on taste. Second broadest applicability would be the Salyuts but imo they're a much more optional pick. The other more dedicated remotes IMO don't fit the "many scenarios" description as well with the single exception of the Meteor which is a more expensive and even more mobile kinda-Stempler-like. Honestly two zond packs to make two Stemplers, a Reaktion and a Vertigo is probably the most effective two initial buys.

Realistically, you're going to be bringing zonds (smaller, S3 REM) in just about every game. They're one of the few things in Infinity that double dipping on purchases can make sense. One anon said to magnetize them, but it really isn't important. No one will care about you proxying one loadout for another, as that is a normal thing to do in the game.

The sputniks are a bit more niche, but I mentioned them because the base size is important. If you want to proxy them as a Lizard or a Go-Pod, they have the right base size for it, and neither of those are bad options.

If you strictly wanted WYSWIG for whatever reason, I'd recommend the bakunin expansion pack beta and uberfallkommando as important purchases.

I think so long as you have the right "tools" to handle potential problems, then you shouldn't worry about it. SWC usually gives you access to loadouts that can solve problems in easier, safer and more reliable ways (much easier to kill a TAG with an AP machine gun than a AP submachine gun) but if you can still solve potential problems then you can give then you should be fine (that AP submachine gun is still a viable option, you just need it on the right person). Just think about all kinds of problems and how your list can deal with them and go from there.

Not officially, no. There used the be a website where people would list individual units in a set they didn’t want so other people could buy them, with the idea being that the cost of the set would be split between all buyers, proportional to the amount of the set they end up with. However, I’ve forgotten the website’s name and don’t even know if it still exists anyway.

You might be able to find individual units on eBay, but there’ll likely be some markup.

>Is siocast less labour intensive or something? Doubt it's all materials, even if pewter is pretty expensive these days.
Mini-making is already low-margin, Anon. The price of raw tin was $15,000/ton a decade ago. It's currently ~$40k/t, down from a high of almost 45k/t a couple years ago. It's almost quintuple what it was in 2010. Miniatures have to use smaller and more processed lots, which jacks up the price. You often need to alloy it with something else for better casting properties, like bismuth or antimony. Or pay someone to do the alloying for you. All of that adds up. The effective price of materials alone on an average ~2oz model has gone up from under $1 to ~$3 in the last 15 years, and that's not counting electricity and labor. So why is that a problem?
Most stores operate at an 80-100% markup from wholesale. About half the price you pay for a given model is keeping the LGS open; the discount on online stuff is almost entirely from them not needing to pay to keep a brick-and-mortar facility open. The distributor also takes a bite out of the profits. So does the shipping company.
Adding all that up, the company suddenly goes from making something around $4-5 per model they cast to more like $1-2. Every stage of the middleman process has been taking hits from the increased costs on shipping, storage, and power, not to mention the inflation and probably poor investments they made from the initial Coofbux bubble, which has popped.

So Siocast knocking the cost of a model back to less than a buck is a huge deal for pretty much everyone. That's why so many of the bigger companies are turning to vinyls and Siocast, or if they're more of a garage operation leaning into resin 3DP despite the brutal hazmat requirements and slow production pace. It doesn't hurt that Siocast uses the same machines as tin, or a comparatively cheap low-pressure injection setup. Nor that Siocast weighs a quarter what tin does, which saves astronomically on shipping costs.

You can do passable shit in like a month if you don't care about making money. Blender has a mode where you can just slap a background image and then you trace it - you need 2 possibly 3 of them for the front, side and back profiles. Just steal any of the showcase turnarounds from any 3d game and use them. Spacelords would probably work with Infinity easily.

Or just steal character concept art where they are t-posed for reference.

Don't be. You really can't fuck it up that badly. Worst case scenario you drop them in some acetone and start over (because they're metal, you generally don't put plastic models in acetone).

There are many good paints available these days. Between Army Painter, Vallejo, Pro Acryl, AK Interactive, and others, just get whatever is most convenient. Don't worry about getting colors 1:1, and don't be afraid to mix colors together.

If you are super new, you could maybe try painting them using contrast-like paints over a white primer background. There are tons of videos on the topic, and it works quite well on Infinity minis due to their detail density:
https://youtu.be/p97A_xW78kY
https://youtu.be/uAgOj3pxaXo
https://youtu.be/mwAqOAsZNV0
https://youtu.be/G-MOtMJ-fnU

It's hard to fuck up and can give you some very decent results (see the last video, for example).
It will probably not win any painting competition but it's better than silver tide, and you can learn more advanced techniques over time.

Or try your best and try again and again until you get good.
