Like I've been saying, war never changes. The rumours had reached me: Some depressed kid had been undisputedly tied to the reappearance of being who looked UNCANNILY like old Rockman. I'd been fighting the hell out of my work-life balance, doing the bare minimum as a politician, but seeing footage of a literal ghost from the past kicked my ass into high gear.
It's surprisingly easy to whip up a fanatically loyal deep state cabal of investors and quirky minions when you're a popular foreign monarch.
I quickly learned that he was, for all intents and purposes, a new person. Even so, I wanted to ask if he remembered anything about his old life. About the wars. About me.
In the end, I never worked up the courage to go catch up.
I just had my business interests keep up with that newfangled Ability Wave stuff and had glowie types hide powerups around the kid wherever he went. He just went through life thinking it was normal for goons to drop powerups.
As EE-Roll gleefully pointed out, mostly I passed on the small scale but useful stuff. The best, I kept for myself.
Si vis pacem, para bellum. As my crew was happy to point out, it’s actually quite hard to set some sort of massive conspiracy in motion without moving lots of money around.
