Think of it compared to humans then. Imagine a creature that lives about a tenth as long as we do. Using 80 that's 8 years, shorter than a dog.
It only takes 1.5 years for it to mature and start popping out kids, which it can and likely would do repeatedly for at least half their window because they die a lot and the farm can always use more hands and maybe one will make it big in Hollywood.
So a thing that can have kids within two years and can make like 10 of them and each one of those can start making more with others before their mother's fertility window wanes-
It'd seem like a lot wouldn't it?
