>In the blood-soaked quagmires of the Trench Crusade, where the Great War's ceaseless thunder merges with the howls of abyssal horrors, a vast eastern empire rises from the rice paddies and mountain fortresses of a fractured Asia. This is the People's Eternal Republic of the Crimson Dawn, a Maoist-inspired colossus forged in the crucible of revolution amid the demonic incursions of 1919. As Hell's legions poured through rifts in the Western Front, spreading their spiritual venom eastward, the warlords and imperial remnants crumbled under temptations of eternal power. But from the peasant uprisings in the Yangtze valleys emerged Chairman Liang Wei, a visionary tactician and former schoolteacher, who proclaimed the Great Leap Against Superstition—a militant campaign to eradicate all forms of "spiritual feudalism" and build a socialist utopia impervious to infernal exploitation.
>The Crimson Dawn's ideology is a fierce blend of Marxist dialectics and atheistic fervor, viewing Hell not as a supernatural realm but as the ultimate manifestation of class oppression: a parasitic bourgeoisie of demons preying on the proletariat's "illusory souls" through myths of afterlife and divinity. Religion, in all its guises, is denounced as counter-revolutionary opium, a tool of the enemy to divide and weaken the masses. Temples are repurposed into communal granaries, monks re-educated in labor camps, and any utterance of prayer treated as sabotage punishable by public struggle sessions. The Chairman's Little Red Codex, a pocket-sized manifesto carried by every soldier, declares: "The soul is but a shadow cast by material conditions; shatter the shadow, and the devil starves."Central to their defiance is the concept of the Revolutionary Whole—a psychic amalgamation where individual souls, dismissed as bourgeois remnants, are accreted into a monolithic collective through unyielding ideological discipline.

I've never played Trench Crusade but I can tell it's good by the sheer dedication and retardedness of its haters.

Pretty cool, but how did Marxism develop in a world where Western European society is completely and utterly devoted to the most extremely fanatical version of Christianity possible?

>>96331304
It's got a very interesting premise and some badass art. The more they developed it, however, the worse it became. I know that one of the authors co-created Mordheim, but this game's worldbuilding is very, very bad.

Baller aesthetic, though

Ah, so you're one of those people who's favorite games are D&D 5e, Lancer, and PBtA stuff. I fully comprehend the depths of your terminal faggotry now. 4adyw

It's also a world where everything's completely unchanged outside of Europe and the Middle East because the Golden Horde is still around... Somehow.

Marx did write poems to lucifer in his younger years. So I guess marxists would be some type of inserructionist heretic faction.

Not even 5e haters let the game live as rent free in their brains as Trench Crusade. Most of them will discuss how the mechanics of 5e suck and then leave it at that, trench crusade haters will hyper obsess over lore that most people haven’t read and scrutinise the models and maps like their life depended on it. Most other people if they don’t like something, including people who dislike 5e, just give a simple reason for their like and move on to something else.

I feel like there's things you haven't thought through, without challenging any of the actual political beliefs undergirding this. This doesn't really make sense as a made up fantasy world ideology, or at least its very underexplained. This doesn't seem to function as any kind of alternate explanation of what hell and the demons are or how they work, and is contradictory even at first glance. Like souls aren't real, but they're a thing that is there and that effects things and that demons can target. Demons are sort of created by bad feelings or something, but somehow that means they're a fake threat instead of a very tangibly real one. How in this framework is it explained how just, inevitable life things like death and disease won't still create them in the absence of class oppression. Souls are a bourgeois illusion, but them combining and undergoing some kind of phase change is central the whole plan?

I also kind of question doing a maoism thing in a setting that's meant to parallel WW1. There was other stuff going on in China at the time, like stuff that was bad enough in its own right that it led to the country choosing Mao instead. Alternatively someone else in the thread mentions the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, a sort of pseudo/proto communist movement that almost took over the country where the guy in charge thought he was the brother of Jesus and was literally constantly calling his enemies devils/demons, talking about killing them, and possessed what he literally called a "demon killing sword." If a Taiping parallel won in trench crusade around the mid 1800s and was still around, that would probably fit much better.

It's funny how often martial cults come up in Chinese history whenever there is a potentially empire-ending crisis.

> and is contradictory even at first glance

This just tells me he very accurately transmitted the essence and vibe of revolutionary communism into the setting.

I've spent a decent amount of time trying to understand communism on its own terms, and as far as I can tell, it's carried hard by charismatic vibes, aesthetics, and a sense of indignation at greed in the world and the desire to build a fairer society, and then it's intellectually backed up by the most insipid, paper thin self-contradictory nonsense.

Marx was a Jew from a family of Rabbis. Apparently Jews still exist in Trench Crusade, though they don't have any models yet, so Marxism might too.
