Is Magic actually at its all time height in popularity or is that just Hasbro making that claim and consumers regurgitating it without doing more research? From what I’ve seen it seems the game was actually bigger around 2001 - 2013.

They have brought in players with no long term hold. Wait until 2028 or 2029 and ask again about their popularity then

I think its marketing. They've been doing a lot of aggressive marketing lately: Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, fake influencers making the game look super social. I believe that because of theis there are a lot of first time players coming, looking for that exaggerated social aspect they've seen from influencers or because of whatever UB set is their own interest. FNM where I'm at has been either packed or dead, pretty much alternating and when it's packed its usually new players trying it out, often disappointed.

TL;DR
there are more people trying magic than ever before, but it's become so thematically inconsistent and different from the portrayal made by influencers that it's probably going to die.

Its probably at an all time high for scalpers and people who do pack openings on youtube, but all time low for people who like to play the game

It's probably true on paper, since people are buying boxes upon boxes as an ""investment"".
I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro is also including the number of people playing Arena in their calculations, which would also jack up the numbers by a lot.
