Cute fairy edition

>Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.
>As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán. Without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown from themselves?

>Thimble (Fairy Rogue)
>Teor Prideside (Nama (Lionfolk) Paladin)

Yeah making another "yay we got rid of the gods, this was totally a good thing!" Setting right after campaign 3 was a bad idea.
Not mention it causes orc fatigue because the background is a god was oppressing the poor orcs, we ended up killing *all* the gods in the end just for their sake. And now the plot is the great houses and the fake religion are oppressing the orcs, so I guess now we need to destroy the entire Aristocracy and religion to make them happy.

Historically, those kinds of revolutions just end with the shadow people supporting the revolution setting themselves up as the new noble class or even worse, the inner party of communist regimen. Then once in power they systematically kill off all the revolution leaders and true believers to make sure they don't leave anyone that might start a counter revolution. Meanwhile the proles lives still suck and probably get even worse

I finished watching up to ep 3 last night. I'll catch episode 4 the next week, I need the pause function.
But, I have changed my mind. This is officially watchable at least. It's still not a "real" dnd game and pretty much a radio theater show with visuals, but unlike campaign 3 it's not something that makes me bored out of my mind right away.
It's just such a pity they had to have such an ungodly high amount of players so their IRL time leaves them even less flexibility than a dimension 20 session. I don't think it will improve much when they split up, since they will still have to maneuver around things like "we have three episodes of soldier's before we need to go back to whoever." So Brennan will continue to be very hands on.

Soldier's table looks good, all in all. Sam's character is a bit too much of a bit character but that's pretty much all his characters, bits with pathos.
>>96827793
>Marisha as beau
It's annoying how blatantly she just plays that same character/aspect again and again. In the cooldown for episode 3, Brennan flat out said she was the closest to getting killed. Frankly, the only reason he held himself back was because, being honest, because it's a paid show, I bet.

By the way, what's the consensus on the way divine sense was handled in episode 3? Correct handling with those "tailor" people or should it have pinged on them being demons?
I assume tiefling's are mechanical standins for demon's incarnated into mortal forms in this setting, like Tyranny.

bonuses, retard
nat 20 doesnt auto succeed, but it can allow to reach 25 or 30 or whatever you say is the threshold of doable. Yes there are still impossible things that should not allow roll, but it doesnt mean everything you allow a roll should work without bonuses on a 20
Anonymous No.96837858 [Report] >>96837901
>>96837845
anon, you're missing the point. yes, bonuses are taken into account.
The point is that if no matter what someone rolls+bonuses, if it's impossible to succeed you do not allow a roll.
Because a 20 is the highest possible result on a dice roll, if rolling it+your bonuses isn't enough to succeed, the roll was pointless.
It's not about "MUH NATTY TWENTY CRIT AUTO SUCCESS", for the vast majority of skill checks rolling a 19+your bonuses is also a success for the same reasons.
If someone rolling the highest possible result does not succeed, success was impossible, which means they shouldn't have been allowed to roll in the first place. It's not like with attack rolls where even a commoner can wound a dragon 5% of the time with a critical hit.

no, again, YOU are missing the point

if I allow a roll that requires guidance, the one specific person in the party who has the highest bonus, and maybe using some item that provides a circumstantial bonus (like a book in vanilla 24 or anything homebrew), I'm not gonna say to one character he can't try it and to another that he can. The roll is possible, the circumstances are slim, but everyone is allowed

Everyone is really good this time around and I'd rather complain about Aabria trying to be the main character than have to watch Ashley a single nanosecond longer.
Seriously, why does she insist on playing? I don't think she enjoys the actual play, she just likes listening to the story unfolding around her but she makes no conscious effort to learn the game or participate in the world meaningfully and always has no clue what to do or how to respond when others require her attention.
Take the situation in this episode where Arenessa is running away and shouts something about the Veil on the other side of the river and Ashley just goes "Okay?" because she can't get in the headspace of her character and is just observing like a cud chewing herbivore.

She just HAS to stick her nose in other people's scenes, and if she can't verbally do it, then she'll act it. And the constant sexual jokes about if this person is hot or fuckable..

I'm still a bit upset at how in C4, her Orc can somehow hear and see though the plants, even to the point of summoning vines out to block a dirt road to stop Wic's carriage from arriving to the home, forcing him to walk down the path to reach the front door. All of that WHILE she was kneeling, giving the last rights to the body. She just HAD to be involved..

in my game the gods are gone too and people hate them and found a substitute in shinto-like spirit religions led by druids. druids are basically my setting's clerics and there are no actual clerics.

the reason why the gods are hated is because of a lack of understand what went down - a third party entity took control over them and during that time the gods enslaved mortals and demanded daily sacrificial offerings. when mortals managed to fight against the third enitity with the help of bahamut and his dragons, after defeating that entity, the gods where gone (not actually gone, they put themselves into an exile). people think that the gods have been killed - but they actually haven't, they at least keep things from getting out of control, but otherwise do not interfere.

the campaign is about finding out about the return of the gods and (that's gonna be the surprise: my party will accidentally help in) the return of the third entity and dealing with those consequences

TL;DR (still a long explanation) - Orym, Fearne, and Dorian were originally from an ExU campaign that Aabria DMed with a couple of other players. Somewhere in the 90s episode count of C3, they had two episodes were half of each of those episodes (so basically 1 episode length in total) where Aabria came in to DM and those players also joined back up. It was tying up their story and also led up to Dorian rejoining Bells Hells for the end of the campaign. Long story short, Aimee Carrero was playing a character that was tied to some god or whatever and Aabria forced her to fight the other party members. It was dogshit, a ton of people complained, and I skimmed over all of that crap because Aabria is bad enough as a player and magnitudes worse as a DM

It's odd because individually I dont mind any of them. I love a DnD edgelord so I don't mind Taleisin's edgecringe characters (although I do hate the obsession with being overly secretive about everything, which he at least so far appears to have dropped for this campaign), I don't mind Luis' verbose ramblings about the character's inner thoughts because every time I've seen him, he's been happy to push the big red button and he actually roleplays a character as a character with its own distinct personality, I think Marisha just being herself (big titty loud mouth kentuckian whore) will probably help her this season and Liam, for better or for worse, is typically a good anchor for a narrative that (through his own ego and desire to be main character) at least keeps a story flowing and progressing.

But you put them all together and it falls so flat.

That's the point. With Liam, there is always an ulterior motive. Whether it's saying "I don't want to metagame, so I'm going to...", while his whole character backstory is built to metagame (Orym knows VM personally and EVERYTHING they did, even the private stuff). Or manipulating his friends by pointing to his 'such and such is dead' backstories every campaign, with the cast knowing he is talking about his mother.
He's a piece of shit. I wonder if those defending him are too, or just gullible, parasocial dumbfucks.
