Hikaru's net worth will be wiped out in the next market crash for sure, he thinks he's a genius investor while inly ever investing in the longest bull market ever
Magnus is always grumpy for no reason and depressed already, i guess something like his wife cheated with a black bvll will drive him to alcoholism and suicide
These happen around the time Niemann is being the world champion and dominating chess, you can't run away from karma forever

>any public displays of "unsportsmanlike behaviour" would result in a 10 year ban and possibly a removal of previous titles if severe enough
>prize money of ~$100k to the winner

And then I'd court smaller tournaments to join my organisation so that we could have independent leagues and rankings outside of elo

What chess books would you suggest to a novice who found out via the lessons offered by Duolingo that they might like chess problems but have too much of a smartphone-addled zoomer brain to have an interest in proper games? I'm hoping to encourage this individual to be less inclined to stare into their hellbrick and more inclined to play over the board and moving from solving problems on the phone to problems in a book seems like it would be a good start.

Thanks, I forgot about the /vg/ thread. I'm pretty sure the last time I posted in the 4chan chess threads Ding Liren was still World Champion.

I may forward that recommendation but part of my objective here is to move this person away from staring at a screen.

Thanks, checking into it. What are it's strengths and weaknesses versus the others?

Chess is both a traditional board game and a modern video game. I haven't followed them in a while but the two threads used to be slightly different in terms of focus and character.

I finally quit chess bros. Put away my sets, deleted chess apps, donating books to the local club. Feel lighter and I have sense of freedom I haven’t felt in a long time.

Zero new events were added and only two of the twelve in this OP were deleted. There was worse than zero utility in making a new thread: nothing useful was added and now /chess/ is prematurely split. Are you an Indian with a GitHub full of README updates or are you compelled by some other flavor of mental illness?

I fluctuate between 700-1000 ELO
How do I break through this plateau? I want to get good at chess, I feel I have to memorize like the top 10 openings really well down to all the variants.
