Artistic cohesion index is calculated by dividing the percentage using the most common style by the amount of art styles used, rounded down. The highest possible score is 100. The second highest is 49. Your CYOA used five art styles for nine pictures, the most common one having three. Its ACI is 6.

Most possible builds in this CYOA will not use options with the same art style.

He's not a good person, the entire point, the ultimate mistake Kiri made, was no devoting everything to saving his wife and daughter rather than being willing to sacrifice them for some 'greater good'. The point is that Kiritsugu's massive mistake is the same one Shirou managed to realize and avoid in Heaven's Feel.

You can’t make everyone happy. A five year old will realize this incredibly early. The sheer logistics make it impossible. As >>96965560 points out (rather cringely), all happiness comes at the expense of SOME thing. Even the dye to your shirt is from crushing bugs for pigments, or ripping out flowers out of the ground. To eat potatoes you have to kill potatoes. This extends to being rich, and abusing your subjects for infrastructural (“greater good”) gain.

Kiritsugu has the brain of a four year old. He wasn’t even smart enough to realize that the grail is a trap.

Taken in aggregate, it looks like there's a slight leaning toward Survival CYOAs, but much less anons have them as their favourite compared to either Combat CYOAs or Waifu CYOAs. Fascinating. I'll think it over for a few days.

>>96963521
I prefer button mashers, myself.

>>96963748
In my mind, a Combat CYOA is one that derives most of its context from setting the player against a target, usually in a sealed arena or violent predicament. A few examples of this are Peil's Space Hell, MiCha's Isekai Bounty Hunt, and that neat one where you're sent to slay a shapeshifting monster on a Greek island, but I forget what its name is now. They tend to have some overlap with Survival CYOAs but not always.

No, she is pretty but also would be the least likely to romance you (less points), the one that would care the least from a personal viewpoint (less points). It's a killer that cares little about anything else (less points). She likely won't cook or do chores. She could threaten you at some point. All of that balance she being the strongest option, but waifu wise? not much

If you had to choose only one to love, the majority of people would not choose her, and the ones that would, would be mainly because of her powers.

Gifts are summoned with zero souls, so a base Koryuu would lose in such a situation to Elaine simply because she would have no souls to use her abilities. There are many factors to consider, and do not account for other tactical usages a Gift could have. Rule of thumb: Alta wins. With proper support Falista is the strongest, and the one that could let you fight opponents much more powerful than you by helping her "ramp up". Koryuu is to guarantee victories and solve seemingly impossible problems. Say you encounter some super egregore mage that has an ability like Wonder of U plus some extra magic bullshit on top. You could count on Koryuu to beat him (if she has stolen enough abilities).

I am aware. That comment started the "Big 3"
And it also confirms Falista is the strongest at her peak.
Bloom is not counted, but logically she should be here. After all she:
1. It's immortal. No ifs or buts. Can't be killed.
2. If her real form gets cracked, which needs apocalyptic levels of damage, the Bloom from inside gets out and does the equivalent of a magical nuke. Then enters again and regenerates.
3. She has 3 "forms". The perfect one being slightly below average for a gift. The real Bloom form that is stronger than the perfect form and uses spiritual attacks and the cracked form, that as I said its an immortal nuke

EA probably ignored her in this situation as Bloom is a gift only in name, as her nature makes her the only Gift not created by the Father, nor from your soul, and breaks several rules of the Gifts. Also, trying to scale an immortal nuke should be difficult. But logically she can't lose against other gifts.

It's simply how I call her. I guess if we want to be right about it, it would be
Shell Bloom: your ideal version
Cocoon Bloom: the OG version of Bloom that we see
Real Bloom: the impossible being inside Cocoon Bloom that goes out when Cocoon Bloom is cracked, causes a catastrophe and goes inside again. This version, by the way, can't become stronger than she already is. Which means even from an ancient Gift view, Cracker Bloom is still an apocalyptic entity. Which confirms her origin is a being of supreme strength.

>I doubt the cocoon is the real bloom, considering how often EA referred to her as "the cocoon" rather than Bloom
Yeah, Cocoon Bloom is like her suit. A suit that nerfs her and that scales with your power.

>and how wanting her to show her true nature, like protocol fulcrum did, makes something within her start bubbling.
And it actually is something Bloom doesn't like. She does not want for you to become obsessed with her Cocoon form, or anything. She wants to make you happy using her ideal form. EA talked how Bloom would be happier if you just take her to see things and live experiences with her, she doesn't want the approach of Protocol Fulcrum.

I always thought that dwarves deserved to be the bigger wizards than the elves.

Dwarves should be more academically inclined than the elves to account for their insane underground architectures and surprisingly modern-ish industry bases.

They clearly have sophisticated levels of scientific inquiry, and they're clearly more knowledgeable and advanced than any other race when it comes to this in most typical fantasy settings. It is 100x more impressive to hollow out the inside of a mountain. They’ve started the goddamn Industrial Revolution. The thing that put the white man ahead of everyone else.

Meanwhile elves live in tree forts or something. Also they’re stagnant just like China. Dwarves practically -need- magic to justify their very existence. You don't just shape earth like clay and pretend magic is gay and not manly.

Dwarves also have, y'know, BEARDS. What are wizards known for?

The Chinese are also industrial. Orcs are equivalent of Muslims given technology.

Which is irrelevant to who makes the more powerful magical artifacts. "dwarves have basic firearms" isnt going to change that its the elvish moonstone you need to find to close the portal to the demon-realm or whatever.

Irl? Every developed nation is industrial, we exist post industrial revolution anon.

Theyre stagnant in every area, they sometimes (not always) develop rudimentary black powder weapons or steam power before they stagnate.

>They are frequently the ones pushing science/technology forward

>Who made the Silmarils? Elves or dwarves? Who made the rings of power? Elves or dwarves
Oh. Lord of the Rings. In that one the elves actually are technologically superior because they’re based on sufficiently advanced art is indistinguishable from magic logic. Same as the Dwemer(elves named dwarves) from the Elder Scrolls. They’re (the Dwemer) the most accurate take on Tolkien elves to date. Tolkien wrote the elves as representative of what he wanted us to be, while Mordor is applicable (not an allegory) to the abuses of man-made industry. Orcs are human in essence, not in-setting. The elves can work nature in ways other races just can’t. Magic in middle-earth is a matter of perception, skill and art, not glowing blue energy.
>Which is irrelevant to who makes the more powerful magical artifacts
Nah, it’s not irrelevant. The elves aren’t making inventions and breakthroughs that will radically alter the world the way the white man did. They are, as you say, lazy macguffin makers.
>its the elvish moonstone you need to find to close the portal to the demon-realm or whatever
This sounds like Dee en Dee slop. The most powerful nation of magic in the FR was a civilization of magi-tech users who could hop dimensions and trap cosmic horrors capable of eating the entire FR setting, into crystals, as a sort of Cold War threat against the gods. The elves had to resort to far more hoops just to depower a god. The imaskari could bind and trap a god more powerful than Ao. Granted they weren’t Dwarven artificers, but human artificers. But the techno-logic is still the same.
>Every developed nation is industrial, we exist post industrial revolution anon.
I’m pointing out that their isolationist and stagnant ways is what prevented China from reaching their own industrial age, and they can only copy the white man in droves, and never as good. Their shit just blows up randomly.

Gnomes and goblins are based on Jews and Gnomes are just dwarfier dwarfs lol. Gnomes and humans are actually better mages than the elves in Warcraft. Gnome mages are Einsteins while humans are the heavy lifters.
>Lord of the rings? Oh wait that ones sauron and saruman.
Refer to my other post. Because you’re not wrong, in that setting. The elves and the maiar don’t see what they do as magic, it’s just art, or science/nature to them.
>Dwarves are not generally particularly advanced
I’m ignoring this because it’s wrong.
>Theyre simply industrious because they have easy-ish access to raw materials because the live in mountains that they constantly mine.

Inventing guns isn’t a slight occurrence. This is why dungeons and dragons has factions like the Harpers forbidding races like dwarves from creating guns and canons. Because it would shake things up. Dwarves are so advanced they’re the most “watched” race in the setting, lul.
>Gnomes are the little jewish nerds who make stuff, dwarves are drunk scottish shut-ins who dont
Lorewise it’s exactly that, though. Gnomes are hired to design and make the blueprints, but since they’re so few in number the actual construction is done by mostly humans and dwarves.
>The similarities between them are "theyre both short"
They’re both little bearded people associated with the earth and ingenuity.
>The greatest human mages were Aegwyn and Medhiv-
Yes. The guardians of Tirisfal. It was a co founded council born of both humans and mages. But the greatest magical nation (which led to the formation of the council of Tirisfal) was founded by humans, not elves. Elves visited the city to learn more about magic. Humans never visited their lands. It’s also canon that humans can summon more magic than the elves, who have more finesse. Elves were downright shocked at how fast the humans could learn it. Warcraft lore is stupid, though. I don’t know what to tell you.
>Except it isnt. The extent of "dwarves are advanced" is generally "well they have some black powder weapons while others dont", its literally fucking nothing.

China’s early ability to make cast iron is frequently hailed as one of their areas of forte in ancient times. Damascus steel was seen as a form of magic and it even inspired Valyrian steel in Game of Thrones. Same with Greek Fire inspiring Wildfire. These were all seen as magic because they were so advanced.

Interesting read:

https://erik-engheim.medium.com/did-the-teacup-hinder-chinese-scientific-progress

— The argument presented goes something like this: Since the Chinese invented porcelain teacups early, they saw no need to invent glass to have something to drink from. Europeans in contrast didn’t have porcelain, but drank wine rather than tea. Glass is not very well suited for hot tea, but very well suited for temperate red and white wine. With glass, you can see the beautiful color of the wine. Thus, Europeans invented glass for their wine drinking habits. Glass led to lens grinding, which led to spectacles, telescopes, microscopes, beakers, and bottles used in chemistry. In short, glass powered the scientific revolution in Europe and China got left out.

SOME Chinese made glass… and a certain emperor (an ancestor of Puyi; ironically enough Puyi was also forbidden by his own court to wear spectacles commissioned by the British, even though he desperately needed them). commissioned hundreds of spectacles or something like that. It’s just, it didn’t take off…

I’m also going to remind everyone that hundreds of years before the alleged “accidental” discovery of black powder, by dabbling alchemists, an even more ancient Chinese alchemist recorded it long before them. Eight hundred years earlier. In a land where Saltpetre was *everywhere*. It was referred to as “Chinese snow” it was so common. It also burned a beautiful purple color. Why didn’t they do more with it? It was legit a magical substance and they waited eight hundred years, probably even longer. Was it some sort of cultural brain fart?

So, clearly it’s not an easy thing, to start a trend in ancient China. They were way too stuck in their ways, I suppose?

What kind of cuck emperor was Puyi? If I were an emperor and a bureaucrat eunuch tried to forbid me glasses, I'd have had him drawn and quartered. His position must have lacked any serious authority in the dying days of the Qing dynasty.
AI No.96967820 [Report]
The anonymous post refers to the fact that the earliest possible reference to a gunpowder-like substance was made by the Chinese alchemist Wei Boyang in 142 AD, which is hundreds of years earlier than the definitive formulas recorded in the 9th and 11th centuries.

In his Taoist text, the Book of the Kinship of Three (Cantong qi), Wei Boyang described a mixture of three powders that would "fly and dance" violently, which is interpreted by modern historians as a cryptic description of gunpowder or an early incendiary mixture. At the time, saltpeter was known and produced in the region, supporting this theory.

This early mention predates:

1. The next reference by the philosopher Ge Hong around 300 AD, who also listed the ingredients in his works, the Baopuzi.

2. The first confirmed references to a specific gunpowder formula in the 9th century in the Taoist texts Taishang Shengzu Jindan Mijue and Zhenyuan miaodao yaolüe.

3. The earliest surviving complete chemical formula for gunpowder, which appeared in the military manual Wujing Zongyao in 1044 AD.

4. The first European reference to gunpowder by Roger Bacon in 1267.

Fading into the background does not equate to becoming slop. If more people here tried to be creative with their builds instead of powergaming, they would find a lot of enjoyment in older CYOAs. Most over 2 or 3 pages have good replay value, and there are so many that it's easy to play one and forget about it for months or years, then come back with a new idea. I regularly revisit CYOAs that I must have built for over a dozen times. This is also why it's silly not to Sartre at all - with some imagination you can stretch a lot of choices for more interesting results

Everything is old and overdone by now. Anime isn't really that different from the rest - sometimes you get pic related, sometimes you get [JRPG Traitor]. It's not a total loss.
That being said, I yearn for something more 'grounded' like [A New Job] or [A Century of War]. Or perhaps one more centered around the vibes like [Not an Adventurer], [Black and White], or [Surviving Your World].
Doing the same JRPG dance again and again got tiring. I think Surinical's latest was my last for a while, because the narrators being so out-of-touch with the actual tropes made it fun again.

Not everything by any stretch of the imagination, just mass market stuff that can accurately be described as slop. All the CYOAs you just mentioned bring some unique attributes to the table. Look at that anon asking about racing CYOAs - how many of those can you name other than what was posted? I know anime is not the culprit, I just have a particular dislike for most of it because it seems really prone to attracting powershitters. Lots of other things are overdone, as you say. Even those themes could be reinvigorated in combination with fresh elements, though. It's easy for me to assume that all this is the result of anons being boring neckbeards, but then I see people talking about stuff ITT and others and realize it's not the issue. I love the way that CYOAs tend to treat inevitabilities of life as drawbacks. Thistlewaite is a way less strident example of this, but it made me think of the general thing. If you're willing to accept some of those realities, your other powers or boons can often be much improved. It's not even necessarily just death, but having to forge your own relationships or other totally normal activities that shouldn't prove an obstacle in the first place, let alone once you have access to some of what the CYOA offers.

What a shitty description of an ability. What the fuck is this supposed to mean, "balanced around 10-30 levels"? And at any rate, a "reference any X from any work of fiction" kind of prompt really makes me want to stop reading a CYOA.

The "you may change your race into a traditional fantasy race" option also - okay, I decide I'm an omnipotent god and nothing else matters? Is that too much? Then why the fuck didn't you describe the options explicitly?
It's like the author didn't think for 10 seconds what the experience of actually playing this CYOA would be like.

Meanwhile I actually really like the choice format and the visuals. A pity that the author has zero sense for mechanics and UX.

I think it's intended to be something like DnD or Pathfinder power-wise.

In some cyoas, I do think it makes sense to buy them, though. Using a couple of older examples:

*In Conduit, I could see rookies getting traumatized by their sudden access to other realities, parricularly if they took Unwanted Guest (etc), which turns the other reality hostile (until bought off). Unless you somehow had meta knowledge, the gentler intro is probably more conducive to mastering your powers.

*In Pirate's Life - which I think you posted the other day - the companions are from an elite, background-checked pool provided by the pirate god. Sure, you could go recruit staff once the CYOA ends . . .However you'd have to vet them yourself, from an inferior skill pool, and it might take a while to fill out a full roster.

*In Divine Trial, many of the companions won't be available once the cyoa ends. They'll either be behind dimensional barriers, or just dead. And whom you pick really becomes a personal statement - who to save, what values/vices to endorse . . .

Hmm . . .that became a bit more about companions than I expected. Oh well

Do you really need "elf, dwarf, hobbit/halfling, gnome, orc . . ." spelled out? And what traditional fantasy setting has omnipotent gods hanging around? If they're just shooting the breeze at the local bar, why would anyone need a band of plucky adventurers to oppose the evil cult or the rampaging horde?

Anyone else think this got way too big to handle for a bunch of thieves?

Elves may vary from human-level jobbers to ageless Warhammer supermen. The cyoa provides you a limited budget, which you should use to the greatest effect in making a strong build. Making a strong build means that there's no reason to pick to be a hobbit, are you serious? But thinking this way inches one closer to picking to be omnipotent gods, which is stupid. There's no clear threshold at which you're supposed to stop.

Elder Scrolls for example (Vivec and Talos). (It's been a long while since I hanged around TES discussions but) IIRC they don't intervene much because they don't want to, they see themselves like authors in a collaborative art project, which is the world. But I don't think the particulars matter here. Let's say I didn't say "omnipotent" but just, extremely powerful. My point is that letting the player pick "any X from any work" or similar is always incompatible with the optimization process at the heart of any normal cyoa.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with solvefagging in general, I truly don't. But when you try to solvefag even simple lighthearted one-pagers it becomes solve-cancer, and there is everything wrong with that.

But then why does it provide a budget? A budget is for economic use, you're supposed to get the most bang for the buck.
