Why does AoS get all the good fatties, you'd think 40k would have more obese daemons/ people since there can be trillions of people per world so theres just more fat people in this setting than AoS. Couple days ago I posted my Harlequin's for some C+C, general thoughts were to add a splash of colour to them. I feel like they're at a state where I can successfully say that I'm happy with how they turned out.

Anyways, post models. Finished or WIP I would like to see something new and fun.

I get why people like the Necrons, Tau, Eldar, and Votann. It's fun to play as a doomed race fighting for survival against impossible odds.

And I understand why people like the Orks, Tyranids, and Drukhari. Sometimes it's fun to play a faction that doesn't care about all those power dynamics and just wants to fight, eat, or plunder and torture.

And I understand why people like the Imperium. Playing as the undisputed dominant faction of the setting and having the sheer power-fantasy of knowing you could crush any faction that displeased you is a fun concept to play with.

But what's the appeal of Chaos? It's just the Imperium but edgier.

I did have the same thought but I'm trying to imagine a scenario where I really would rather have more instead of what I currently have, mainly because sororitas can sticky an objective if need be and I can probably park one of the tanks on an objective while other stuff pushes as well. Callidus assassin has basically unlimited uppy-downy so I can get it pretty much anywhere to score weird secondaries or do an action if need be

I wish the art style and overall lore reflected archeotech being "different' in some way, visually. A 20k year old fusion reactor nobody understands and is too afraid to tinker with should have a definitive art style from one build in the hive last year. Same with any other archeotech or ships. It doesn't have to look like votaan, but it should be something.

I think the main difference between your list and a more standard marines one is you're paying a cool tax of at least 100 points for the termies, sisters & assassin. most lists are going to use the cheaper units for scoring and utility (intercessors, scouts, eliminators, combi weapon lt) and get an extra unit in there with the savings.

That's the interesting part of the Mechanicus, they're essentially a cargo cult that achieved equilibrium. There are IRL examples, maybe not 10k years, but hundreds of years where a certain piece of technology stayed the same and eventually became a mystery. Roman concrete, famously. Well with Admech, everything is like that.
I do think they get under-explored in other ways, like, they have the internet basically but it doesn't alter their social structure away from medievalism. I'm not sure how the internet would effect such a drastically different culture but surely it would do *something*.

Eh, I threw in callidus assassins because peeps convinced me it's more useful than combi lt(it is lowk busted) and in just gonna use the infiltrators to screen back board and I figured their extra ability to do that is worth the 30 points, so those two combined are 60 more points than combi lt and scouts but I do believe they are that much better

Termies and sisters tho, yea I'll give that to you. I could swap out the sisters for 1 unit of intercessors and 1 unit of assault intercessors/infernus and still have sticky objectives and the other stuff would probably get better value than the other half of the sisters unit

And termies... yeah they're lowk just outclassed

However I'm fine with it cuz the meta is constantly shifting so buying models you like it more important than buying models that are good now. The extent of my worries about the meta is just making sure my army is good enough for my cool models to shine

Blanche was incredibly important to the thematic and aesthetic development and the establishment of ‘grimdark’ as a tone. But Goodwin is the man that transformed the goofy shit and Blanche’s nigh-untranslatable art into the peak 40K aesthetic circa 2000-2010.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, GW has become far too sterile in its design. There is a particular kind of blandness that comes with shit made by interns in line with strict IP guidelines using pre-made 3d assets. I’m old and have seen 40K run the full gamut from plucky underdog doing its own thing in its own quirky way to soulless, hollow corporate bloodsucker.

I find it odd that for such a dark setting, there's not a single faction that's actually scary. The "scary" factions are all just kind of cartoonish and silly. Perfectly viable. You have a dedicated detachment for it, and it works nicely in Mont'ka as well. You have a full range of alternatives from small cheapo stealth suit units, swiss-army knife crisis suits and lots of firepower in broadsides and riptides. I feel like all of the new Dark Eldar models they have released recently (Incubi, Mandrakes, Drazhar, Archon, Malys) are pretty cohesive with the old aesthetic. The old models look great still and I don't think most players won't mind mixing new and old together.

Blade Champion is still better I think. Reactive move is good but ultimately I think advance and charge and reroll charges is more straightforwardly useful. Not really. At most they were an extremely minor expansion on Snakebitez (two named characters), with every other snagga being easily included on every Klan. But then 10th did away with Klans entirely and they're just units. To the point other Detachments get more use out of peppering in a few Snaggas than Da Hunt. They were certainly close to a subfaction and maybe that was GW's original intent, but if so they abandoned the concept before they even got amy upgrade sprues out.

The Genestealer and gaunts updates were fine. But in general, the update sucked. The psychophage is some chaos model they dragged to the wrong folder, biovore and pyrovore are from a canned vespid expansion. The Hive Tyrant look-alikes are unnecessary over gribbles kits, and single load out monopose warrior primes are antithesis to what I want in a kit.

Even the sculpts I'm fine with, the kits are a hobby downgrade. Genestealers can't all be built with implant attacks because it's 10 tentacle heads, 10 normal heads, then a split between implant attacks and fleshhooks. Not that it matters in 10e, but I'm not playint 10e. And there's no scything talon option for the GS, either. Similarly no adrenal glands or toxin sacs or anything for the kits. I'm not gonna say the old gaunts and old GS didn't need an update, but I'm gonna say I'm gutted they didn't get an update in 2016 instead. Tau Firewarriors and Pathfinder kits were the best update to any sprue of the early 2000's, every update post 8th edition is just robbing the hobbyist. Painters are eating fine, at least.

The difference is those tanks aren't uniquely ultramarine and any tank crew can be fitted with upgrade sprue parts. This isn't the case with Krieg, least of all because there are no krieg upgrade sprues. Maybe they'll get there, maybe not, but unfortunately other armies arent as modular as Space Marines so I don't anticipate them getting that level of attention.

It'd be easiest with orks and eldar, but they'll never bother to release a kit with special bits for all the unique klans amd major craftworlds, much less give them their own books with bespoke detachments. At most you'll get a detachment slightly flavored towards your subfaction of choice and maybe some flavorful army selections if you're lucky.
