One issue with this CYOA is that any Birthplace that doesn't give you Psionic Tokens is basically worthless. You're never in a situation where getting the other tokens would mean things were harder for you, nor is there any real impetus to try and maximize how many of them you get. Psionic Tokens though, you have to suffer for those, and the more Psionic options you can pick, the better in the end. Gene-Cults for example is a really trash option.

The expenditure of millions of years of stored energy can't be sustained. We will all have to relinquish some things. There is a lot of hope for all of us if we're willing to lean into that challenge and imagine a new world, but if we are reactive rather than proactive things will be worse... what's rigid often grows brittle. I know CYOAs have basically nothing to do with this, but I like to think of this place as a small corner where we can all participate in that collective imagination. That is one reason why I have so much love for more "realistic" settings.

I'm having a free weekend, so I'll be finishing up skills tomorrow. I hope to reach at least the point where I have complete skill list and start of perk list ready.

Today's development question - is giving the player option to share some of the obsession with his yandere a good choice? I'm honestly tempted to give the players option to share some of the perks and powers with their yandere through spending the Harmony Points and as such I thought that letting the players experience some of the yandereness themselves could be an interesting choice to earn more of them.

The second question - should the challenges to that use up the Calamity Points include more gonzo things like drawing supernatural danger to the player? I feel like it's a pretty interesting way option to give the player choice of dealing with the proper paranormal calamities following them as a price for their yandere summoning wish.

Where did I present that as a solution to all the world's problems, or outline anything about what "giving up some things" means to me? I just don't believe the myth of progress. With the wealth of knowledge we have now, we could make amazing lives for ourselves that would be closer to and less taxing on the land, better for our physical and mental well-being, and so on. I know this is a pipe dream and I won't pretend it's not clouded by nostalgia, but I think someday someone will get there, even if it takes nuclear war or the collapse of most of the biosphere. I understand the resentment you're describing, but ultimately those people are angry about the way society is structured, not about the people who live in it with them. It's classic divide and conquer, pitting the less powerful against each other. You described this general very well - that's exactly what I see in it. To be clear, I'm not necessarily advocating for minimalism or primitivism or a "return" to anything. I'm saying that the level of technology at that point was on a more human scale, and that if we had maintained that as a guiding principle and innovated on those tools, we would have something much more effective, repairable, modifiable, durable, whatever. Our essential needs should not rely on mineral extraction, fossil fuels, or anything that requires long, attenuated supply chains. Tools should serve us, not the other way around.
