Do you guys think it's worth buying bootlegs at pic related? I live in a third world country(Brazil) and original figures are really expensive here, costing hundreds if not thousands of reals(the local currency). Even with the abusive taxes on imports, all I can do is buy these bootlegs on aliexpress because they are still cheap compared to the originals, or maybe not, I think they have almost the same price because of the taxes on the bootlegs. Also, the problem is that sometimes I buy really bad bootlegs

Good bootlegs I bought at aliexpress:
>Figma 359 Guts from Berserk
>Hasbro Spider-Man from the 1994 cartoon
>Hasbro Venom also from the 1994 cartoon

Bad bootlegs I bought at aliexpres:
>NECA Jungle Hunter Predator
>Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool(Build a Figure Juggernaut)
>Yamaguchi Agent Venom

The Predator has bad painting details and is a pain in the ass to fit the cannon in his shoulder. Deadpool didn't came with his classic belt with a holster and grenades. The Yamaguchi Agent Venom has bad joints and articulations and he didn't came with the classic Venom head, I think I should have bought the CT version, I heard good things about their bootlegs. Sorry, I know I'm an amateur and I might be annoying you guys, I started collecting figures about a year ago, but I just wanted to know some tips for buying decent bootlegs(if that is a thing). I only know how to look at the reviews and the store's reputation on aliexpress, but that doesn't always help to buy a decent figure. Should I stop buying bootlegs? I heard that they harm the industry and consumers. I can buy original figures from now on, even if it's just two or three a year

There is no rhyme or reason to getting decent bootlegs. It's a luck of the draw thing. But yeah CT bootlegs are pretty good quality, at least the 4 I have.

If you don't want to gamble spend the extra to get genuine figures. Even if you get less figures they'll be better quality. But if you don't mind the gamble for a cheap ok figure then go that route. It's up to you buddy, no one else can make that call for you.

CT toys is currently some of the best value for their price and quality.
Transformers also has a lot of great quality KOs, both of official product(which has been lacking as of the last few years, but still plenty of older figures that hold up) and third party toys.
Most other things can be a crapshoot. NECA KOs can be close , but due to attempting to mimic the paint apps with little QC means you have a lot of issues with stuck joints. Generally revo, figma and SHF KOs will be pretty terrible and not hold up to much play, but may look ok initially for the price.

All of CT Toys releases this year and last have all been great and they keep getting better and expanding their roster of copies and with their 3rd part brand Mess Toys doing more customs. These are all my CT figures and the Revoltech copies are the best ones.

bootlegs are exact rip offs of pre existing figures with dubious quality
third parties are just figures that are not official, alot of them are made in higher quality than the original companies

Have you looked into alternative Chinese brands instead of KOs? They are probably the best value-for-money right now, even more so than KOs in some cases.
Like this SHF-equivalent kit is just 89RMB even though it's licensed.

Some of these brands happen to be ex-KO makers too and they know how to compete.

Itโ€™s worth doing research into good ones, definitely. Also sometimes on sites like zenmarket you can get used/boxless figures off JP mercari and jdirect for super cheap, which shouldnโ€™t result in too much tax.

The fondjoy are horrible.
I have the mark VI kit and has serious problem with the hands joints.
The only chink company got license is the Blokees.
At least the EVA kits are better than Bandai ones
Also the Miku figure is good for the price and better than buying the Figma KO

I honestly donโ€™t get how Chinese toys with such autistic attention to detail, low production and kibble-less transformations can be around the same price as โ€œhigher-endโ€ hasbro stuff in this day and age. If I were involved with the design process for hasbro Iโ€™d be out to poach some 3P/bootleg designers.

As a long time 3P collector, the best value in 3P was before Covid. 2014-2019 was a peak age for it, decent variety and good prices.
A lot of good values relative to size and detail you see, like that Megatron, were released over 7 years ago now. When it was out, it was more expensive than Hasbro figures, but also cheaper than the prices Takara MP were getting.
Modern 3P prices are pretty fucked. A Legends figure at $70 plus just doesn't seem like a good value when I was getting MP scale figures for . Reissues or remaining stock of older 3P from this era remain at the prices they were, and as Hasbro prices inflate they seem like an even better value than they were back then, but besides some KOs we're not likely to get values as good as they were.

Your budget will have different options, but as a general lowest cost option to start, there are these cool KOs of the Kingdom toys that adds some diecast metal and makes them bigger.
They're called Beast alliance, which makes it a bit harder to look for since there's a line by the same name from Hasbro, but you should be able to find it on Aliexpress

if you gonna buy toys from Aliexpress at low cost you must have this points clear:
>most form not saying all will be bootleg with missing or bad impression at the boxes so will not be as good for display as originals
>some will have loose or tight joints thatyou will have to fix with semi flexible glue or hot hair dryer + silicone base lube
>others will have spots without propperly being painted
>at least 1 face will have weird eyes
>worst sceneario are missed parts orwroken joints

in my experience you will develope a second hobby of repairing toys and even customize theme, having a 3d printer also helps you, i used a FMD printer to make a balljoint for sentinel spider gwen neck which broke after moving it.

so buy at your won risk anon, but if you keep insiting you can end up learing a few things abbout fixing toys, damn you can even start resellign theme as upgraded quality bootlegs and earn a few bucks in the process if you have the time.

I only bought one bootleg model kit from AliExpress so far but I was really impressed with the quality. It's definitely a cheaper plastic and manufacturing process than official Bandai, but not by much, and as long as you'll take some extra time cleaning the imperfections up it can turn out pretty nice.
I think I spent like 20 euro on it. There was a single missing piece though, but luckily nothing structural (you can see it in the bottom half of the shoulder logo)

I) I detach each joints/accessories
II) Cover them with primer

Is this the proper way or are there other steps?
