why?
why did Toy Biz try so hard?
why was Toy Biz so far ahead of its competition, competition that wouldn’t exist until after Toy Biz was gone in some cases?
why was Toy Biz better than we deserved?
why is Hasbro besmirching the good name of the line Toy Biz created, but Toy Biz is gone?
why will toys never, ever, ever be this good ever again?
why was Toy Biz so perfect?

I cannot believe Hasbro is almost still using the same mold 20 years later. And people who keep buying that horseshit.

The thing about Toy Biz is, even if you think they're dated their price isn't even equivalent to modern $20 or $25 toys, they would be $15 toys in terms of inflation, being about $8 back then. There's some solid $10-15 lines, but none that feel as ambitious as TB.

It was a passion project bound to fail just like diamond select you can’t offer a perfect toy at the cost of a McDonald’s meal without going bankrupt

>body proportions of a spider-monkey
>ugly hip joints that look unnatural
>unsightly sculpting for articulated points typical of early 00s that are not used anymore for that reason
>hinged-wrist with swivel lower arm rather than swivel-hinge wrist that allows swappable hands.
>weird-ass looking face sculpt
>thick paintjob
>cartoony feet
>swivel calves that look horrible in any other position
>unique sculpt that drives up costs of tooling each time, bleeding money from the company frivolously
>unique sculpts complicate compatibility with other figures to kitbash for customs without major reworking of parts

Hasbro has regressed in some ways with their figure designs and articulation, but they still looks better than these things.

I miss this. It's such a simple fun and easy pack in that gives you a bit more info and experience with the character you're buying a toy of. Seriously how much does it actually cost to add in a reprint of AF15 or whatever.

LOL NO.

Toy Biz Marvel Legends were always under $10 back in the day. Somewhere around $7-$8 if I remember correctly. OP, if you're going to shitpost, get your numbers straight. The only way you could have paid $20 for a ML back in 2004 was either you submitted to buying from a toy scalper, or you're some filthy Europoor over paying for glorious American toys.

Yeah, $6.99 when they started but $7.99 for the last handfulog of waves starting with the rider series. It was really stark when Hasbro took over and immediately doubled the price, dropped the comic, and reduced articulation. Then, "for some reason," went on hiatus for a few years. After they came back, they didn't really get good until the 2014 "Infinite Series" rebrand, which came with _another_ price hike to $20. They were good then but at what cost?

You can blame Marvel for outsourcing Legends to Hasbro for cheap because they wanted more money to fund Marvel Studios and Iron Man

It was this version of Wolverine. Collectors back then were still in the 90's era mindset of collectibles never loosing value and going up over time. See Beanie Babies, half circle Boba Fett, and Palymates Star Trek. Wolverine was a rare variant of a popular character of a hot toy line. So of course he would be scalped to death. Nowadays, you can find him for $30~50 MIB. But there's still some sellers holding onto him on eBay at $200+.

The articulation on these was so ahead of the time for action figures because they were designed after Japanese 1/6 scale doll articulation. Which unfortunately is why the engineering looks dated now. With the 1/6 dolls, cloth goods covered the joints, but with these figures they are completely exposed. I'm sure if Toybiz hadn't gone bankrupt they would have eventually improved the engineering.

Meanwhile Hasbro started out by making the engineering worse by using Y hips and it took years for them to get the modern T-hips they use now. And they've proven they can do pinless joints but continue to use old bucks instead.

It definitely sucks that accessories have been cut back more and more though. Those stands the Legends came with before the BAF marketing were pretty great. The sentinel head that came with Magneto is to this day my favorite figure base.

It's amazing how many people rush to carry water for Hasbro no matter how stupid or antagonistic their moves are. I've genuinely liked Legends since that 2014 relaunch. But it took halving halving the accessories and tripling the price to get there. We're another round of reductions and hikes out from that too with these things approaching $30 with often little more than an extra set of hands. That says alot about Hasbro's operations and none of it good.

As soon as the Chinese raised paint app prices for figures, the companies should've begun moving their business elsewhere in Asia as a warning against others trying to get uppity.
