What are some of the best Nerf guns to mod for increased range and accuracy? One of my friends hosts a huge Nerf battle in the forest every Christmas and this year I'm going all out. I want a sniper weapon, not necessarily high capacity. I can design parts for 3DP and I have a metal lathe and mill.

Just buy Dartzone stuff. If you have to ask what's the best mods then you won't be able to make anything better then off the shelf Dartzone Pro stuff to begin with.

Nerf is all close quarters. Be sensible and buy yourself a Turbo Advance. Get a Reflex-6 too if you want a good secondary.

If money's no object, then you could buy a Sabre Apex Prime or a Worker Kunlun. Otherwise, most of the "Pro" spring-powered blasters on shelves are basically the same. You just want to avoid buying a flywheel-type blaster if you're going for sniper status. Nerf Pro Torrent (on clearance) or X-Shot Pro Fury X would be the budget picks, and both have multiple upgrade kits available. Dart Zone Pro Mk. 4 if you have orangutan arms.

The old N-Strike Longstrike was the one that felt most like a sniper rifle. The issue is that the long barrel does nothing for accuracy, and actually reduced range because of the friction it applied to the dart, so I would never use it.
Still, I removed the air restrictor and modded the spring and it definitely had the best range of anything I modded in that era. I'm sure with more professional mods it could get even better range.

The problem with Nerf stuff was never from the blaster, but from the projectile. A full length dart will never fly far enough or fast enough to be worth "sniping". Going with half darts could help ease this issue, and there's plenty of off the shelf blasters these days that can get high FPS and range using half darts.

Good point... half the foam should be enough to stabilize the dart. I could also weight it with a ball bearing inside.

FX Airguns has a product they call Smooth Twist. It's basically very shallow rifling only in the last few inches of the barrel. It's produced by swaging the barrel from the outside. It works because airgun pellets are self-stabilizing and don't need a high spin rate. Maybe I can do that with a thin aluminum tube.

Some weeks ago, I found XP50 and 100 Super Soaker remakes at Ollie's and thought about picking them up. They may not be CPS, but they have to be better than everything else Hasbro's made in the last 15 years.

is nerf basically just dead? feel like there's literally zero interest in it anymore. any time I go to the store the shelves are still littered with whatever proprietary ammo-based guns they're trying to push this year and then like maybe a few adventure force ones are sold but that's it
