i feel like Stuffed animal = generic animal based plush where as plushie typically = plush toy of some sort of character, typically marketed towards fans of said character rather than just children.
as someone who does customs as a hobby i hate having to refer to my work as stuffed animals for whatever reason but in some cases people who dont care about them as much as i do dont see any difference kinda like what you are saying
