They used to. I had bootleg GI Joes and Transformers growing up, G1 Blitzwing and Chromedome bootlegs were very high quality but the Joes had flimsy hips that were internally held by rubber strings or something like that. I don't think official ones ever had this sort of ingeneering.

Those cheap quality KOs fell out of favor. Buyers hate them when stuff like Final Faction is better quality for the price. IP owners bullied stores to not carry "bootlegs" too. TFs still get them but US retailers don't stock them so they tend to be Aliexpress-only.

I believe hasbro threw a fit with dollar general, big lots and some other stores over bootleg transformers. Which is why those stores carry there own lines of official transformers now.

That’s a shame, they’re really fun sometimes. I still see them in similar British stores like B&M with hilarious English packaging and funky shiny plastic, I think a couple years back somebody bootlegged an expensive 3P and he showed up in shops, too.

Terrible profit margins. Bootleg important figures sell for domestic prices, and they profit.
If they had to bootleg domestics and undercut thier prices, it's not profitable outside of transformers
