Blind boxes don’t meet the strict legal definition of gambling because you’re buying some kind of product, not placing a wager. They're more like loot boxes in a video game if anything.

It's technically not gambling, but loot boxes in vidya use the same psychological principle as gambling to put you in a compulsion loop to keep you playing. Blind box toys keep you buying until you get the one you want and you get that sweet sweet dopamine release. Ask my friend who would buy so many Lego Collectible Minifigures trying to get the ones he wanted because he only does castle Lego, but wasn't very good at feeling and guessing what was in the bags. At least now there is an app that can tell what is in the box by scanning the QR code.

Physiologically, yes. There's always ones you want and ones you'd feel terrible getting. Yes, some guarantee every figure if you buy a case, but that's why the ultra cool paint schemes are sub 1 per case.

yes depending on if the box or case isn't locally sourced or the IP is Niche. IE you need to middle man it from Taobao or something. The Armor Hero ones are the worst about it. 1/99 chance for ultras and only 12 boxes per case, cases typically are $60-80

This. I've mostly just bought whole waves of Transformers Blokees and while the chase figures can be neat I'm fine if I get the regular versions so it isn't really a gamble for me. Also if they use the Mega Man license to release waves of figures in the same size as the Galaxy Version Transformers with a selection of robot masters I will buy the shit out of them as well.

It CAN feel like a loss but legally anyway subjective disappointment doesn’t equal gambling. You paid for a product and got one. In gambling the risk is losing your stake and getting nothing in return. The loss with blind boxes is emotional or personal preference not financial or material.You might not like a shirt you order online, or you regret a food order. That doesn’t make it gambling.

The odds are probably stacked against you worse than in any casino out there.

I notice a lot of listings for these are from china, are these bootlegs or the real thing? I think someone said it’s a Chinese company so maybe if that’s true it makes sense that sellers on eBay are shipping them from china, but I still wonder if they are the real product because I’ve heard many products in china have stolen molds. I don’t want something made out of weird sketchy materials.
