When Superman punches a button under the chin, the mouth of the monster flies open, his chest explodes, and slime runs out. How did something this violent get made?

When I was a boy, the most we had was dino damage in Jurassic Park toys. Before my time, they had a He-Man toy that took damage to chest armor. Is this acceptable for figures now?

In all fairness, the alien is already dead. Otherwise, it would be an alien vivisection playset. And it's the kid doing this to a dead alien, not Superman making a living monster's guts spill out. It isn't like those 90s Crash Test Dummies that flew apart or even any villain figure that falls apart UNLESS you can find a two pack where the action feature is clearly "The good guy kills the bad guy." Like yeah, the T-1000 exploding figure is violent but you can make anything explode him.

aside from the violent toy perspective, I was shocked to see this "spoiler" in the store last week.

it's fine for DRAX to violently explode the insides of a monster. might even be funny. but NOT SUPERMAN. he should be better than that. there's no reason he couldn't just pick it up and fly it to the mountains, or whatever. why does he need to explode it? even if this scene results in him having grief over his violent act, and he resolves to be better, they shouldn't have made a "fun toy!" out of the moment.

my expectations for the new movie plummeted to zero. it's le-edgy-dark all over again, but with a colorful snark filter this time. ugh

which is why we have Omniman and Homelander

Superman -himself- AS "Superman" should not become the parody -of- himself.

this toy out of the context of the movie (and I fear even IN the context of the movie) makes Superman look like a menace exploding the guts of the bad guy, a bad guy who looks to be bipedal and perhaps intelligent, even if only a little bit

if you want Superman blowing up monsters not giving two F's, then it should be the Homelander movie instead, and have Homelander blow up stuff, and do not sell that toy to kids as a funny "ha-ha look at the monster's goopy guts! whee!"

yes. goody-goody Superman is the ideal we all strive for, even if it's not realistic

it's like how Star TREK is a hopeful future where people are nice and talk about their problems, vs Star WARS where it's cool to cut off a Wampa's arm.

it's totally fine for other space shows to kill the alien monsters, but Star Trek is the show to stop and say "let's try and understand this monster instead" just like it's fine for Drax to burst a monster's goopy chest, but NOT Superman.

I'm so glad he was found by simple, kind-hearted farm folk to raise him to be a good ol' boy. They made sure he knew that he was above the plights of humanity. Just think, he could've been found by a retarded communist instead and spent his life laser-eyeing the baby to death in every pregnant woman he came across. I once had a good debate about this, where I pointed out the Kents were the true heroes of the story, since it was they who raised Clark to be a good person, and the Kents are just normal GOOD people, trying their best in a harsh world. just like "you and me"

my friend countered by suggesting Superman was inclined to be good, by nature, and even if he was raised by evil people, he would just instinctively know what was right, all by himself.

lol we were both like "didn't they do that in a book already? A what-if, where Superman crashed in Russia instead of America?" but neither of us had actually read it

we both concluded that, while on some levels it could technically count as "official" Superman, since it was professionally published and all, that it could also be just one artist's fan-fiction. similar to how Disney F'd up Star Wars in an official fan-fiction way (not true to the core spirit of the original creator, but still, technically, "official")

unless Red Son WAS done by the original creator, I don't know if it was or not...

Your friend’s argument falls flat when you consider that there have been villain Kryptonians. It’s not as though Supes’ kind were incapable of lusting for power, specieism against other sapient races, political sabotage, etc. even if you don’t count Red Son, there’s always the Justice Lords and other alternate timelines to prove that Superman (and the other JL) is capable of becoming a villain despite his upbringing.
