Anyone remember these? I want a reboot of this, they are like Bionicles but from Hasbro.

I collected Bonkles just to scratch the Xevoz itch back when KB Toys stopped selling any more. Bonkles dont have the same proportions nor character design that matched whatever Xevoz did. But despite all that, I don't miss Xevoz anymore. I have 3 left that haven't succumbed to the ravages of age of cracked loosened parts

This looks more like a Mega Bloks spin-off line rather than Bionicle. In fact, if you told me this was old Mega I would have believed you - buildable figures with emphasis on customization, strange looking dragons and extremely flashy promo art. It's right up their alley.

Never owned one, but they look super neat. Got more pictures of them? Are they expensive to get second-hand?

They were expensive to get at retail. Back when $20 was considered expensive, especially with other toy companies charging 7 for something standard, and with what wages were. It was only when KB toys started selling them for $5 at least that it got everybody's attention. Cheapest guys are usually Razor Claw and Sledge Trooper, while hardest are Cryo Katana and Storm Wing with neither of whom ever seen at clearance

I loved these guys as a kid. It is a shame distribution was so bad. I have a small collection of them on display. They are the only line from my childhood I still actively display since I like them so much.
>>11462233
>Are they expensive to get second-hand?
Yes. You can find some of them for cheap but certain sets are extremely hard to get a hold of especially if you want them new.
Also if you want any pictures of any of them in particular just ask. I don't mind pulling mine off the shelf for a bit.

we seem to be at the point where we can 3d model and 3d print parts, why dont people just start doing that? experiment making some 1 off option parts/ accessories and from there make figures and just paint them ourselves.

I remember kickstarters and 3P's that tried to be the next Stikfas , but those just fell off. Otherwise, they'd have been a success by now

Remember them? I played the browser game. I was obsessed with the idea, but sadly I never bought any, for one reason or another. Then the inevitable happened, they disappeared without a trace. I found this badass at a BIG LOTS aka Pick'N'Save and passed on him and the Frankenstein's monster. Stupid mistake, I dig them both.

Loved this line so much, but unfortunately the joints just do not stand the test of time. They always seemed to wear down rather quickly and become lose.

One of those kickstarters was by Xevoz's designers. Forgot the name. They used an injection molded frame and 3D printed armor parts I think.

>>11462319
Probably lack of interest from the larger toy hobbyist community.

Modibot
They offered a Xevoz compatible 3D printed frame, but the product that was funded had its own propietary articulation and accessory system due to Stikfas/Hasbro still holding the patents at the time. Those patents have expired, though.

There's nothing legally stopping a company from making new Xevoz compatible figures or accessories. They just can't use the Xevoz IP. Maybe a boutique toy brand will pick up the baton and do a small run of figures for the die hard fans, but I don't see Hasbro doing it.

I've only bought the base figure and the venture accessory kit, which were the only injection molded products being sold until they were discontinued. They changed the figure scale, and the connector standard shrank from 6mm to 5mm. What's confusing is that some of the accessories being sold on the website are not compatible with the new standard. According to the FAQ, all parts and accessories are SLS printed in nylon. I can't believe this dude still farms the printing out to a third party service.

Not as good as ABS, better than PLA or UV resin. The injection molded figures and accessories were made with PET, if I rememver correctly.
>does that mean Xevoz use 6mm joints
Modibot accessories were never compatible with Xevoz figures due to patents. The 3D printed Xevoz compatible Modibot frame only worked with Xevoz accessories and not the figures.

Nah the arrest was long after Stikfas died. IIRC Stikfas' creator was a rich nepobaby doing it as a side-interest, and by the time Hasbro got it licensed he was already over it.

When the Hasbro deal ended, there was barely effort going into marketing and they switched to even more brittle plastic, tanking whatever reputation they had left. They dumped a warehouse-load on a Singaporean distributor then quietly shuttered their doors.

All of mine are intact still and most aren't even floppy. I think only my Robot got super floppy, but he's pretty heavy and multi-segmented. Most toys would become floppy even if they were normally made.

They're all from the Hasbro era, so that probably helped... or not. I forget if the early era figures also had a problem like the non-Hasbro ones.

Yeah, they probably licensed some patent from BanyJ and tried to cash in. That or just marketing.
Since they didn't actually own the Stikfa property, they wanted something of their own, in case they lost the license or Stikfas didn't sell. So the Xevoz line would continue afterward.

From a modern perspective, I think it's weird that Hasbro even licensed shit in the first place, when everything Hasbro now produces are giant movie properties.

>>11467277
The matte made the joints stiffer. IF they were just smooth plastic, wouldn't it be the same as if the joint had already worn down?
Toys that are meant to be swappable need to hold up from repeated pullings and shovings, so i don't think there'sa lot of materials that could actually hold up better.

They lose their friction, wear or crack. Thunder Shaman has heavy parts. Cryo Katana and Iron Spectre are translucent and thus have the weakest joints. Even if you don't pose them much, they're still subject to time itself
