Alright /toy/, what is the definitive Xenomorph figure? No special colors or alternate designs, I just want a figure as it appears in the original 1979 film. Obviously the cheaper the better but I would pay as much as $200 if the size and quality justifies it.

The NECA Big Chap is likely what you want then. Phenomenal figure and a good price for around $32-$35 (dunno if prices have gone up in stores yet).

Big chap is pretty solid, i liked it enough to buy a giger version. Its wildly unbalanced and not great to pose or play with since its neca. I think it does look really nice though, and neither or any of xenomorphs by neca have broken.
Walmart had some fun xenomorph knock off figures, way better fun but not as fun as the old kenner toys.

The Mafex one was made of a worse plastic than NECA (incredible, right?) so it's pretty likely it will break, probably the worst Mafex figure in the entire line, sad because the accessories are the best.
The Figma Takeya's ver. range is pretty limited and it's so fucking tiny.

Depends on size and price. I have a neca chap, monster arts chap, and revoltech chap.
Personally I like monsterarts chap the best out of the three. he's solid, but also he's import figure size and harder to get now.
The neca chap is easier to get and is still a nice display piece but won't have the articulation of the monsterarts one and is a larger figure. And also if you decide to get more neca xenos down he line (I have like 20 myself) he'll be in scale with them

Don't get the revoltech one it's old and dated and just .... wrong.

OP here, thanks for the suggestions. I'm not a major collector, most shit I would want figures for has little to no merch, so my experience with any brand is pretty limited overall. Seems like neca has the most experience making them and probably my best bet. I wasn't planning to have it in any kind of display with other figures so the size seems nice but having never had a neca I worry about the articulation. There's been neca stuff I wanted in the past but just never really got around to, my impression from online though has always been that they sacrifice articulation for detail which I'm mixed on here. Want good detail to appreciate the design but the limited articulation in the chest and waist area makes it look like having it lean or be on all fours is impossible which is disappointing.

Interesting to see this, because at the time the SHMA Big chap was considered legendarily terrible. Dome was too clear, sculpting and articulation cuts seemed rudimentary, especially the head area. It's naturally not the most articulated design, but even then it's pretty bad.
The Monsterarts Warrior they did before it, however, is great, my personal favorite Alien toy. but it's not the classic version so moot for this discussion.

The SHMA Chap had some poorly thought out design decisions and they went a bit too hard with the drybrushing. But the sculpting and detail was top tier at the time and it had a level of craftsmanship that Bandai rarely ever rolls out in their figures today.

You need to bath your NECA toys in a hot water bath before playing with them because the cheap paint and QC they have means that the paint gets stuck in the joints and makes them easy to break. Also bad quality plastic. They're ok if you manage to work around that.

NECA figures have decent enough sculpts (mostly), paint that ranges from quite nice to pretty sloppy, mostly sub-par engineering, but often have really, REALLY bad QC. Figures breaking out the box is not uncommon, and stuck joints that will snap if not carefully unstick with hot water (assuming you realize it's stuck before you try and move it) are extremely frequent.
Sadly this board has an absolutely pathetic shitposter who relentlessly shills/runs damage control for NECA and will accuse anyone who criticizes NECA in any way at all of being a "troll". He's made any discussion of NECA impossible because the moment anyone reports QC issues he accuses them of lying/trolling.
In answer to your OP question, there really isn't a definitive accurate Alien. The Revoltech is a little too stylized and quite small, the Mafex is super fragile, NECA is as mentioned a crapshoot, and the SHMA is a fiddly mess with some weird inaccuracies. I'd say if you need a poseable Big Chap that's primarily based on the actual suit (as opposed to Takeya's artwork) the Revoltech is still the best one all these years later. It's got issues but it's got the fewest problems of the options available.

Paint is great, engineering is on par with any kind of toy at that price range dumbass.

It's incredibly uncommon and you're a liar for trying to push that.

>and stuck joints that will snap if not carefully unstick with hot water (assuming you realize it's stuck before you try and move it) are extremely frequent.
It is not frequent, you have to be some kind of retard to do something like that.

You are such a disingenuous ass, you can't even post anything remotely true about the toys. NECA is not a crapshoot, you have no experience with their figures.

The old Revos used a sturdy plastic but with a gummy soft texture if that makes sense. I have the TV evas from back around 2006, and they're showing their age. Not sure if the Xenos are the same but considering they were made a while back they may have the same plastic feel.

I too have one and he's still solid, I only fear that the monoshaft legs snap, so far nothing happened but it troubles my mind sometimes.

>Not sure if the Xenos are the same but considering they were made a while back they may have the same plastic feel.
