Starts off as novelty shampoo bottle, when it's finished, becomes cool display piece. Do companies still do stuff like this? I also remember when they used to make those bars of soap that had a toy in them.

Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command McDonald’s Toy from Australia

In the US yeah, it wasn't really a thing here in Aus but occasionally we did get some really cool shit, I got Tony Hawk Prok Skater 2 and Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX out of cereal boxes, and not just demos, the full games for PC.

I just miss the days when novelty toys didn't feel cheap, even Happy Meal toys felt quality. I got this Buzz Lightyear and even though it only moves at the shoulders and the wings go up and down, I loved this toy and I'd take it to school all the time.

I still remember the lightsaber spoons we got in Kelloggs cereal during the prequel era. We ate so many boxes of Coco Pops but still never got a green one. I was pretty happy with a red one and switched back to eating Weetbix after I got it.

Angry parental groups used an interpretation of the law that food products can't contain non food products as a way to end toys in cereal. Ironically now we have scandals about lead to add cinnamon flavor in our applesauce and bread being made with chemicals used in yoga mats, which the actual intention of the law was meant to protect against.

>as a way to end toys in cereal.
To what end? Why would they actively try to take a toy away from kids? I mean hell it's perfect for low-income families who can't afford a lot of toys, so throw in a cheap action figure/doll or race-car into a cereal box and let kids get toys that way. Hell make it a promotion that every three months the next figure in the series comes out (around when average families would be buying a new pack of cereal) and get the next character. Make original characters and put a bio/mini comic on the back of the packaging to encourage younger kids to read to learn who the character is. Maybe make it that you need to fill in the bio by solving a puzzle in a word search, so kids need to learn the letters to get all the info.
I just pulled all that out of my ass right now, and I can't fathom why companies don't do shit like that. Especially with healthier cereals that would incentivise the kids to pick something that isn't loaded with sugar or corn syrup.

I was thinking a big box and it's specifically for the one kid. But maybe three months is too long a period, I haven't eaten cereal since I was a child, so my math is probably off. The rest of my point still stands though.

Heh, my sons will burn through a box in less than a week. I’m a shredded wheat man and it would just about make my year if a little plastic wheat themed hero turned up in each box.

Tossed, melted down. For soaps, they could be cheap ones that wore down after the production was over with.

Or maybe someone kept them. That happens to. Tossed out and someone gets a keepsake.
