Why is it so hard to downscale this and fix the shoulder placement? It's the last modern G1-adjacent Megatron without an afterthought tank mode.

I don't want this downscaled. I think the robot mode looks bad.

Agreed. I don't hate the idea of a G1 inspired tank Megatron. I just want both of his modes done well, with no compromises. Wish that M1 Abrams concept art Megatron was real.

Exactly. A Transformer is both modes, which is often forgotten by designers. Take '86 Megatron. You may as well buy the Yolopark figure instead.

the problem with the 86 megatron is they are constrained by mainline budget. Making a tank that looks good without making it apparent he turns into a tank at all is pretty fucking hard to do with the engineering they are allowed to do. A masterpiece could definitely pull it off. But the 86 can't even manage to fully hide the treads, and at the end of the day, this is supposed to be g1 megatron so them fucking the robot mode up for the alt mode he never was isn't an acceptable compromise.

I used to own the Classics one. Not a bad choice, but held back by being a Deluxe. If I could get the Henkei Voyager for -$100 then that would be my ideal choice.

That's one of the figures I (OP) have a problem with. Beautiful bot mode, but the tank is very clearly cobbled together with no real regard for aesthetic appeal. Notice the elevated, oversized barrel.

This thing was so close to perfection and could have easily been THE Megatron for years. All they needed to do was have the treads on the back fold up onto the legs instead to thicken them out and solve that *awful* shoulder problem. Even if the articulation remained awful, fixing those two massive issues would have made him one of the best Megatrons in the whole line.

>>11481037
I currently use the Nemesis Bridge 3 Pack Megatron as my go to Emperor of Destruction because he has a good balance of Bot and Alt mode while having *really* nice paint. Honestly, my only real complaint with him is the awful cannon chunk that turns into a lump of nothing in bot mode, if they fixed that he'd have been the best Megatron ever released in the mainline.

Studio Series's bot mode looks fantastic, but the tank turret is a huge mess, which I really don't get. The Siege/Kingdom mold had it so good that all it needed was a few minor tweaks to be perfect, but they seemed to completely overdo it instead. But mainly, my biggest turn off is the colors, as while accurate to some degree, they just seem bland. I'll wait for the inevitable silver paint with black legs version before I grab this mold.

I've always defended the Earthrise mold up until the feet in tank mode. If they folded into the legs then even the backpack would be forgivable.

I think people are forgetting just how bad that leader megs was. The tank was fine, but the robot is an atrocity. You mentioned he shoulders, but the neck was poorly designed, the elbows are restricted, and the knees are pathetic.

Heck, the shoulders aren't just bad from their placement on the torso, the way they swing outward also looks like shit in use, even with the arms not rotated forwards.

As for studio series Megs, the biggest issue he has is that the arms don't do nearly enough to hide that they are arms. Even if the hands rotated in and revealed more tank like details and were as a whole a bit slimmer it would basically fix the brickishness of the turret. Pardon me if I'm incorrect, but the attachments g1 megatrons p-38 used were based on fictional attachment from the man from uncle in the first place, so I don't see anything wrong with a fictionalized main cannon on the tank.

Yea, the legs on that mold are big and hollow enough that they should be able to fold in or something. But of all his problems, the feet in alt mode has always been a minor one for me.

The tank cannon accessory will never not be the laziest thing ever though. So many other options on how to deal with that and they just choose to....not deal with that.

>>11481412
Oh I'm quite aware of how awful a figure it was....but I still really liked it and felt just a few changes were all it needed to be great. The elbows didn't bug me much but you are correct in that those legs, from the hips to the knees to the feet, were all sorts of garbage. Even the crotch skirt was crap with it being a large flat piece that just got in the way.

IIRC he was a left over from the Thrilling 30 line and the budget for his design dried up before they could finish him properly. So they cut a bunch of corners and crammed him into the next series in the line, which is how he ended up in Combiner Wars despite not having any Combiner Compatibility what so ever. He feels unfinished because he basically is as he essentially got the Universe Galvatron treatment without actually getting shrunk down.

No, lots of people ragged on it at the time it was released, mostly stemming from them being ham hands that kept popping parts off and didn't like how "complex" it was. He's also a shorter deluxe for the time and that definitely didn't help.

I'm biased as mine had zero friction on the head slider right out of the box, forcing me to cram crumpled paper in the chest cavity to keep his head up.

Oh I'm fully aware of how much of a trainwreck Universe Galvatron was, I just meant I've never seen anyone else call it a "good toy".

The problems with it wasn't that it was "too complex", the problems stem from it being a fiddly, loose mess that fell apart if you looked at it funny, had parts getting in their own way, had a very strange aesthetic compared to the rest of the universe line, felt awkwardly small even for a small deluxe and had a weird abandoned third mode that meant more parts but nothing to actually do with them.

Universe Galvatron was a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong with a figure.
