I'm not a serious collector by any means and only recently got into diecast, but I found a pic related the other day and I think it's an absolute 10/10. The metallic/glittery sheen on the blue is really striking in the right light and the tampos are perfect. It helps that I just overall like the S30/240Z as a car.

Got a real fun haul at the dollar store today. Also struck up a conversation with an older guy who was browsing as well. People always have horror stories about Hot Wheels collectors, but honestly everyone I've ever met in an aisle has been fun as shit to talk to.

Anyway, I already had Cruise Bruiser, but I love this casting so much I wanted to buy it again. I love yellow paint jobs and I'm particularly fond of those wheels and wish HW used them more often.

The Alfa Romeo Guilia is a super cute little euro racing sedan, if you're into that. It's also got a really unique layering where the vac-metal interior protrudes through the chassis to also be the tailpipe. Great taillight tampos too (not pictured)

Slide Burn is fucking GOAT. I gather that it's supposed to be an homage to the early Hot Wheels fantasy castings like twin mill, tri-baby, noodle head and whatnot. They even nailed the color, black hood paint, and redlines. Absolutely love it, 11/10, would buy an overpriced RLC release.

Hako Type D is pretty damn good, too. Obviously designed to be a retro-futuristic Japanese coupe, it has tons of great details. Totally looks like the kind of thing you'd see driving in the background of Akira or Patlabor. I particularly like the tilted moonroof and the livery using the same font as Galaxy Express 999.

Fucking love this hobby. Take care, friends.

Also, as simultaneous car/toy/transformer fag, I just noticed an absolutely fucking awesome detail. That weird little funnel-shaped intake on the hood was featured on the mold for the original G1 Transformers/Microchange Cliffjumper mold from 1984 (right). It was carried over to the Siege Cliffjumper mold (left), which was otherwise heavily based on the Mitsubishi Starion. The Starion itself also served as a big inspiration for the Hako Type-D, so they seem to have carried over the intake one more time, just for lols.

I fucking love it.

Derp, forgot to mention it originated on the Porsche 924, which G1 Cliffjumper was unofficially modeled after. I love that a unique detail from an old Porsche was carried over to a transformer and a hot wheels car all because of the power of toys. What a cool hobby.

Slide Burn would have probably made a wonderful Transformer just like twin mill did for the crossover. Transformers are always best when they put the alt mode first.

>>11487469
Not Matchbox, but AutoWorld has done some 1:64 Mitsubishi Starions. They've also used this casting as Chrysler and Dodge Conquests (rebaged versions of the Starion sold in the US).

Upper-left with the windshield and side decals was apparently an exclusive you could only order from the AutoWorld website, while the bottom 2 were versions A and B that shipped to stores.

Toyota Crown Comfort and Time Attaxi
md5: 300f5105d9201df656b542504097aebf๐Ÿ”
Here's an amazing coincidence. The Hot Wheels Time Attaxi is based on the Toyota Crown Taxis that are used in Asia, and has an opening rear door as a special feature.

The Japanese Takara Tomy 1:63 diecast of the Toyota Crown Comfort Taxi also features an opening rear door.

I wonder if the HW designers were inspired by the Tomy casting when they made the Time Attaxi?

Either way its really cool-had to include Lethal Diesel (a heavily hot-rodded Humvee) because it's on the spring themed card art that this pastel Time Attaxi was included in.

Wow those m2 are really accurate, I really like M2, they scale might be a bit off (desoto looked huge compared to my 1/64 AW plymouth fury) but i really like the details on it so much, plus i feel like the size is just right, also they make alot of unique 50s cars casting as someone who like collecting cars from that era. The green car is from a gachapon by toys cabin, although the wheels don't move and its plastic the details on it is very good, it also comes with a tasteful modified version too, if you roll it

>The dogs in the back are a fun little inclusion.
It's actually an homage to an old Mercury wagon casting done by Matchbox. They used the dogs as a way to avoid having a rear rivet go all the way up to the roof. Other matchbox wagons have used the same technique. The Volvo hilariously does it without omitting the rear rivet post, which sort of makes it really clear they're referencing the dogs and not just copying the technique.

Looks cleaner than my attempt to fix up this hand-me-down MR2. It used to be Orange with black decals just like the green one. It, too, had a caved in roof but it was so heavily corroded I had to rebuild parts of that and the pillars with super glue and cardboard. I'll have to rework it in the future.

Good luck with your restorations!

I've seen many video about painting and the deeper i go, the worse it gets with chemicals reactions, techniques and equipments; on the other end i don't want it to look sloppy: several jobs i've seen had grainy paints, colored details and panel lines that looked drawn by children, additions with putty slapped on the body and poorly refined. It pretty clear stuff is very hard to put together.
By now i've got tamiya primer, paint minus clearcoat, some markers, decal paper, brushes, new wheels and side-mirrors.
From what i've seen to get a smooth and shiny finish i need to finely sand the paint and polish it. But then the decals and clearcoat?
For the glasses i've seen poliwatch or wood floor polish(?), do these just stick to them?
For mirrors and interiors epoxy or clay putty?
Space and support surfaces are minimal and tight, it needs to be strong but also give me more time to model pieces, hence the clay...
Men there are so many doubts and unknows, meanwhile the car has bern sitting there for months now

p.s. sorry for the blogpost, don't know if it fits here or else i've to go to custom general

from experience they're taken before reaching the shelves or are the first thing taken when (if) they show up because they're easily identifiable and relatable. Doesn't help that cases, the few that get there, usually aren't packed with those.

what do you mean with bootlegs?
I've got the minigt tyrrel for โ‚ฌ18 and F1 LM for โ‚ฌ16, a singer 930 targa from rhino model for โ‚ฌ22 and they're awesome. But there are tens, if not hundreds chinese brands out there so it's hard even to keep up with offer. Depending on model, availability and demand prices can rise easily even more if it's something just a bit older but sought after. From what i've seen late tax here seems to hit hard

I'm specifically looking at Mini GT / Kaido House since they've caught my interest. I'm looking to branch out a bit with something a little fancier than Mattel offerings. I was just wondering if ~$20 is about normal for them.

Not into Kaido myself but yes 20-25 is the price they usually go for. Iirc they come with opening hood too. For less than RLC you get a pretty detailed model.
Moreover lately due to new tariffs RLCs are expensive as TLV, if not more. Thus considering quality for the price and offer of chinese brands they're really appealing
>>11495988
man, that's not really helpful
jokes aside i've an old yatming/summer(?) casing that's going to be the test mule. Point is a bit per piece costs are stacking up fast for stuffs i don't even know if will give me a good result, won't need or will outright make damages: thinner for panel liner could fuck up paint and decals and much more, that's what i meant with chemical reactions.
So since the part is small can i use a tube of tamiya putty to add mirrors or would it be better a block of epoxy?
For the polishing: should i polish the paint coat, apply decals, wash/shade and then clearcoat?
Or should i paint, apply decals, shade, clearcoat and use the polish only at the end?
Same for the plastic glasses: is polishing enough or should i clearcoat them too? Will clearcoat grip on a polished surface?
Will it give any weird result in the long run?

honestly your paint flakes are pretty minor, i think just a small paintbrush or toothpick with white paint is able to mend it, if you are afraid of grainy paints, which i'm guessing is orange peel, you have to make sure you clear coat and sand it, polishing stuff, i reccomend you painting on some shitty old diecast as practice first, or some cheap model kit to get a feel of painting, there are alot of vehicle model kits channels that goes into the basics too, which applies to diecast painting as well, i reccomend you give those a watch

Dug up a pic of the MR2 with it's old paint job. I tried cutting down some of the high points before I dip it in some paint stripper to prepare it for a better coat.

I guess to mount a mirror you could try laying masking tape behind the door panel and have a triangular corner peeking up where the mirror will actually mount. Use the tape to support the putty with mirror so that you can see if it looks right before you try applying any type of glue. Once its bonded, you can trim the excess tape/hardened glue with a razor knife and then paint over it.

Kaido House specifically trends a little more expensive but yes a normal release Mini GT will typically run you $15-20 depending on the model.

Hako Type D unboxing, disassembly and close up look 2025 HotWheels New Casting ! 1-54 screenshot
>>11487467
So the coloration of the OG release was clearly an homage to Initial D. The hood scoop is from Transformers/Microchange Cliffjumper, the name "Type D" probably refers to the infamous lava-diving equipment from Evangelion, and the font on the side is from Galaxy Express 999. What other easter eggs is this thing hiding? At this point I feel like there has to be even more.

Found a pic of the inside. Not sure if these fuel/nitro cylinders in place of the passenger seat are a specific nod to anything.

As an avid Speed Racer fan, I'm either disappointed in myself or the sculptor that I cannot find any tidbits. Sadly, the Japanese text on the side just says "Hot Wheels".

Anyway, here's a cool custom I found on facebook.

Ferrari and Mattel got into a pissing contest about licensing rights a few years ago. The fact that you've found new 2025 castings must mean the fight is over.

I'm normally not big on fantasy castings but this one caught my eye immediately. It really feels like every popular JDM car mashed together to the point that it could be mistaken for any of them at a glance. Along the same design lines, I like the Track Dwagon for that sort of "it's the future but also the 80s" style.
