3 week trip to Mexico
Going to Mexico with a buddy in a couple weeks. Any tips for not having my organs harvested and getting mugged? We start in Mexico City for a couple days. We wanted to focus on Mexico City + the parts south of that (like Acapulco and Puerto Escondido).

I already dread how long I will have to extend my cut after the visit just because of the god damn tasty food.

Some additional info:
>two mid thirties guys
>traveling with backpacks
>good but not fluent in spanish
>want to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, but Oaxaca is already booked out
>want to mostly chill, enjoy country, culture, food, people, weather and night life
>not too big on touristic sight seeing, but if anything worthwhile is nearby and worth seeing, sure why not

Mexico has far fewer random street robberies than other Latin American countries. If you have your own car, you have to watch where you go in states like Guerrero and Michoacan. Some regions of the state are very dangerous, but you can still say "fuck it" and visit the towns anyway. Befriending the cartel henchmen and lowlife cartel orbiters is about as advisable as trying to pet a rattlesnake, but you shouldn't be afraid of them either (just like you shouldn't be afraid of rattlesnakes).

Any reason in particular you have to watch out in Guerrero and Michoacan with a car, or are the regions in general a little bit more fucked up?

Also, I know in some countries like Columbia you have to watch out if you're going home with a girl, cause she just might drug you and take your shit. Anything to watch out for in Mexico, or is that not as prevalent over there?

How about you start by not voluntarily going to one of the most unsafe states in the country? Why ask the question at all having outlined your “plan”?

Youre actually going to try and car camp in fucking Guerrero? Make sure you dont stay the night on Francisco’s rancho without asking lest you get woken up with a gun in your face. Honestly this makes no fucking sense whatsoever. I dont really believe youre going on a trip since you dont seem to have done any research at all. Its either that or youre a retard.

Youre talking about “backpacking”, but youre going to have a car so its actually car camping, but you choose to go to the west, through Guerrero and Morelos, avoiding the national parks and colonial history and comparative safety of the east because…? Youre choosing Guerrero over Puebla and you make a fucking thread asking this retarded ass question?

If you werent a shit for brains idiot, youd go from Mexico City to Puebla, then down to Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido, making sure to stop at the various “magic towns” along the way. Guerrero doesnt even have any “magic towns” because its a shithole. Not a fan of sightseeing? Yeah fuck all of those dumb national parks and old colonial cathedrals, lets just go through the shithole Guerrero to Acapulco because “dude lmao beach”. I guess you and your boyfriend are just too cool to sightsee all of that boring shit like mayan and aztec ruins and historic city centers right? Youd rather struggle to order tacos with your broken ass spanish from a restaurant that sits in an unfinished cinderblock building in a remote mountain town while cartel lackeys eyeball you, honestly I hope your dumb white ass gets raped.

acapulco is a shithole, just fly to puerto escondido and from there go check out
- chacahua
- zipolite
- san jose del pacifico up in the mountains on your way to...
- oaxaca

Then hit puebla on your way back if you feel like it. If you wanna keep going then take a night bus over to San Cristobal, it's pretty nice and unique. Ask for the 'candy shop' in the local market, it's a cartel-run store where you can pick up any drug you can think of, totally out in the open.
I bought 5 tabs of acid for $5 each, brought them to San Jose del pacifico, made some friends in the hostel there, we all took a tab and went hiking, then encountered a group of locals playing futbol in a clearing near another village. so yeah, quickly that became a match of indios vs gringos on acid, can't remember how we did but despite our height and fitness advantage i doubt we had a decisive victory. anyway, was a fun trip. mexico and really all of LatAm is great for that sort of thing

You don't go back to your room with a girl. You go to an hourly motel. How many times do you horndogs need to be told this?

On my first roadtrip across Mexico (with weed), the only place I encountered a police roadblock was in Michoacan. They searched my car but didn't find the weed, because I put it someplace that lazy Mexican cops would never bother to look (inside the crack of the folded-down seats that my camper bed lies on top of).

San Cristobal has the best-value hostels in all of Mexico. It's at a very pleasant elevation as well. You can find ANYTHING in a Mexican market, kek.

Great tips anons. I was just curious why the car in particular was mentioned, we don't plan to tent or car camp or whatever the fuck, just travel with bus / train. Besides, we only had a few days planned in advance, to leave room for other noteworthy spots and some sightseeing. Just not sightseeing back to back on a schedule like some tourist groups. We can definitely take our time.

Train travel isn't a thing in Mexico. You can travel by bus, but you won't be seeing much in the way of nature unless you hop into one of the colectivos that travel to the mountain villages.
