Anything child-like is seen as lesser, and anything adult or "mature" is only acceptable for adults. Maybe it's a result of their youthfulness of a country and cultural insecurity over that; but you don't really see that phenomenon in other ex-colonial countries like Australia. Still, the result of this is that there has to be clear demarcations between childish things and adult things otherwise Americans can't understand it, which is why children's cartoons are retarded and so much "adult" American animation is filled with excessive violence, swearing, and sex, despite being just as if not more retarded than cartoons made for toddlers.
