Universal translators make no sense when you think about it. What happens when an alien says a pun that only makes sense in their original language, and is it impossible to translate while keeping the original meaning?

I mean how fast can he learn one language? It's not just a matter of uploading data. You've got to train a neural net. Surely that would take at least an hour. So we're looking at a total initialization period of over 680 years.

Why would Anakin build a protocol droid for a slave?

I would assume the apparatus that does the translation is in the druid's head, so if it's maybe human brain sized at best there's really no reason to not just carry it around or put it on a desk when meeting with others instead of putting it into a gangly clumsy druid who can barely walk straight. Also we pretty much have universal translators today and they're just apps on our phones so why is this space faring super technologically advanced universe relying on a robot?
