>not just a great adaptation of the Peter David era but also a great movie with deep introspective into Bruce Banner and Hulks relationship and how a childhood filled with trauma shapes it
>Eric Bana plays a great Bruce Banner, with his meek mannerism but deep inside hides a hatred and vitrol against the world that wronged him that he unleashes through the Hulk
>every other actor from Jennifer Connelly to Sam Elliot gives their A game in this
>Nick Nolte is a terryifying Brain Banner that perfectly captures the vindictiveness and jelousy he has against his only son

>hated by audience and critics at the time because WHY HULK SAD ALL THE TIME, WHY ISNT HE PUNCHING MORE BAD GUYS TOO MUCH TALKING
This movie remains the best adaptation of the character to this day, and is also the reason why MCUslop Rufallo Hulk is so different

>a great adaptation of the Peter David era
Ironic considering the man himself said the movie sucked. But I agree with you. This movie is certainly better than anything the MCU did with Hulk and gets points for at least trying to do something interesting.

this movie in my opinion didnt even need a big bad boss fight but i guess the studio mandated that their superhero flick end in a big fight

It's about a man who turns into a big green monsters and smashes things when he gets mad. It's for children. You're the one in the wrong for expecting depth in this kind of story, and if there is any depth, it's only slight. Faggot.

I’d respect this opinion more if we weren’t on 4chan which statically makes you likely to be into anime or other Japanese shit, which is a thousand times more embarrassing and shameful for a white adult man to be into than any superhero stuff.

HULK (2003)

PROS
> Bana is good but not great. Weaker than Norton & Ruffalo (especially in avengers 1)
> Connelly & Elliott are perfectly cast & do great jobs. I like Hurt a lot but Elliott is simultaneously more rageful & caring than he was.
> Nolte is largely good up until his final speech.
> Love the serious tone.
> Military battles are good. Not as gritty, suspenseful & impactfull as those from 08 but make up for it with a larger scale and some decent hardware porn.
> I think I remember the music being good.
> Nolte's electrical form is cool.

CONS
> Overly bright & colorful visual handling of the Hulk himself conflicts with the serious tone. A few other tonal problems (talbot's comedic looking death)
> Josh Lucas is weak as Talbot.
> Nolte's final speech goes into severe Alex Jones megalomania cringy territory & Bana artificially overreacts in that scene.
> Final battle is weak.

...

THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008)

Pros!
> Norton is a great Bruce.
> Roth's performance is damn good.
> Tyler & Hurt are firmly good.
> Hulk visually looked great & intense, vastly better than the 2003 version.
> Chase through the village & confrontation in the factory was gritty, tense & well done.
> Battle on the college grounds was great.
> Final battle was decent.
> The mostly serious tone is personally appreciated.
> It feels very much like the same universe as Ironman (08)
> Music is very good.
> Handling the origin during the duration of the opening credits was well done.

Cons!
> Not much depth to Blonsky.
> Abomination's design is weak & nothing is done with motion capture to make him feel like Roth.
> Final battle is kinda small in scale & generic.
> Actor for the potential Leader was weak.

There is some powerful pathos here. Like the scene where Nolte is telling Betty about the fear and loneliness he's experienced and accidentally killing Bruce's mother. Or after the final fight, there's this brief clip of Bruce's father tucking him into bed when he was a little kid, way before this nightmare. It's affecting.

Disagree. David era is defined first and foremost by Joe Fixit shenanigans. Moreover, even though Lee's Hulk does put an emphasis on psychological aspect of that character, Davids exploration of it is way more spiritual in nature, psychedelic even.
Still a great sci-fi action flick. One of the best superhero movies for sure.

You don’t have any Hulk movies to go to at all, chim-chim. All you have are Thor movies and She-Hulk where he’s a joke in both.

OP, I love both Hulk and The Incredible Hulk for different reasons.

I think Hulk is a visionary masterpiece but understand that it's a bit too esoteric for audiences and why it didn't land.

This is why I also love The Incredible Hulk because it went in the opposite direction with a straight forward monster film with great action and no bullshit.

So I can't say I like one over the other as it depends on what you want from a Hulk movie!!!FACT!!!

This movie is a classic case of misleading the audience and paying the price. They put all the Hulk action scenes into the trailers and all the promos. So of course people were expecting a Hulk Smash movie and ended up with a art house movie with The Hulk making a minor appearance

David Duchovny was very close to being Banmer in that movie but they went with Norton. Duchovny would’ve been best option in hindsight and we wouldn’t be stuck with the faggot Ruffulo

I really admire the way they made the hulk a sort of personification of his repressed childhood trauma, like he's not transforming into some big green monster that represents some general angry emotional state but instead specifically that moment in his life when he was a little boy and saw what he did, and the way the this builds the hulk personality (childlike, prone to anger but not entirely defined by it, like a troubled kid). That scene where his dad sees him transform and then touches his cheek with hulk seeming comforted by it, maybe recalling the positive relationship they had together before the big terrible moment occurred which then triggers him into a rage.
Really adds depth and nuance to what's otherwise just used as some goofy cgi action slop.

My memory was off, it's very explicit that hulk is recalling the good times they had with the memory of him playing with his dad.
Really touching moment, bruce reverting to the child he was before his childhood got fucked, hulk even looks like a kid albeit big and beefy. And his dad is sympathetic, reunited with his little boy after decades apart, but also witnessing the way that his son has been harmed by his mistakes.

I dunno the edward nortin hulk aint bad but man doing a serious take on a character like hulk is pretty wild. I think Joss Whedon got it right with the first avengers. Normies just want to see a big dumb kind green guy beat up baddies. We don't need to go into some complex tragic past like batman. We have batman for that.

Lmao it's obscene. The entire point of this character is that he can't really control the other side of himself, so he has to be very delicate in how he unleashes it.

Marvel was at its best when there was competition between studios. Disney owning it ruined it.

Ruffalo is the shittest fucking hulk and anytime I see him on-screen I cringe. I do not accept him as the hulk and therefor have never watched an avengers movies. Bana is best and Norton is also kino. The end boss battle in Norton's hulk is great.

>it’s about space police with laser swords it’s for children
>it’s about a man who turns into a fly it’s for children
>it’s about men who shoot each other to solve their problems it’s for children
>it’s about a space bug that morphs into people it’s for children

I agree with this. You can see it as late as Netflix Daredevil, which, while part of the MCU was not done by Disney so there was still a competitive element and they could do something different.
