I liked it and rewatched it recently and I still liked it. It was over hyped and it's a bit much, but it's still a fun 8/10. Just don't take it seriously.

I don't think it's the general right wingers that are mad about it. More specifically, there was a genre of music called incelcore a few years back that started gaining some notoriety, and there was an incelcore song that went viral called "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Ruined a Whole Generation of Women". So going with that sentiment and shitting on the movie was more of a meme than some sincere indictment of its cultural impact, which I believe was nowhere near huge enough to fit the accusation.

I hate it because the graphic novels were 1,000x better. They turned a seven (eight?) book series into one single movie. Like 80% of the story is missing from the movie.

They also made Ramona a whore in the movie instead of an innocent young girl who's simply confused about who she loves.

It's a filter for patrician taste, so it's unsurprising that plebs wouldn't appreciate it.
It's very well made, benefits from Wright's strengths and sensibilities as a director without suffering from his weaknesses (in the way that Baby Driver did). The detail, the effort put in, the constant choices made and executed across the spectrum of audio-visual presentation exemplify what can be done in the medium of film in a way that is rarely seen.
You don't have to like it, it is filled with particular content regarding particular subject matter, it's like having preferences for one color or another. But if you can't see how saturated the "colors" are, or the advanced technique involved in applying them and combining them, then you're missing out.
All this for some goofy movie about a dipshit trying to bang some skank, makes me wonder what Wright's Antman would've looked like, assuming he wouldn't have shat the bed with it like he did for every movie he directed after this one.

I live in the greater Toronto area for half my life and I've been to several of the places the movie was filmed. I see this movie as Canadian nostalgia is the reason for its popularity.
