Legacy > Tron > Ares
Liked elements of Ares, not the worst blockbuster to come out this year by any stretch but that being said it was a significant step down from Legacy in every way. Lacked the world building and exploration that made Legacy so great. Too much real world, not enough computer.

Also annoying that we saw so little of the grid in general, even when in there. Most of it is Leto in a room talking to Dillinger. Way way too much real world stuff. Even if they wanted to do the their world comes to ours angle they should have explored Dillinger's grid more, how it differ's to FLynn's and Clu's etc.

Story issues with Legacy aside, its attention to detail and building the grid was incredible

Ares didn't care for what Tron was that's why it doesn't treat the Grids with any care. Like hiking the Encom Grid was a neat spectacle but it glosses over heavily how many programs died in that attack. Also the movie doesn't treat the programs like living things like the previous movie it's pretty odd

Did the designers think a round disk wouldn't be cool enough?

Ares wasn't the worst movie in the world but it didn't drag a lot during the 2nd half. It was the typical 3rd act climax but it felt uninteresting and the pacing of the film felt rushed in the beginning and then like a slog the latter half.

I don't know if the permanence code was the right way to go about it since I didn't find it to be a very interesting plot point and I don't really mind it at first until near the end of the movie when I realized Clu and his army, or Quorra, wouldn't have been able to last long outside the grid.

But apparently the director said it was okay because they had Flynn's disk in which case, okay, I guess.

Needed way more time in the grid. All the grids felt too empty and lifeless.

How much did they cut out of this?

Katharine Isabelle and Cameron Monaghan had like 10 seconds of screentime each, so I assume most of their scenes were removed? Otherwise why include them and not just like a random extra?

Because having a girflfriend is considered sexist in current year Hollywood (unless it's a minority).

What’s more important: the opinion of the public (87%) or the opinion of critics, who are often influenced by how much they’re paid to promote a movie with positive reviews?

Disney froze the audience score the same way they did with TROS. It means nothing anymore.

>near the end of the movie when I realized Clu and his army, or Quorra, wouldn't have been able to last long outside the grid.

It's a major plot hole and I would have preferred they just retcon legacy and do their own things rather than the retarded call back at the beginning and cliffhanger at the end.

Also Kim knows about the 29 minutes things. Why didn't she just drive 30 minutes away?

The writers were pretty clever though. See ARES is an anagram for ARSE which is what this movie is ;)

Tron Legacy is unironically one of the greatest films of all time.

You want powerful themes and a deep, resonating story that lasts through time? Pick up the Bible or Dostoyevsky.

You want some deep rewarding character study/drama? Watch a TV show.

The artistic merit of any given film is foremost found in its visual experience, secondarily its combined audio-visual experience. Tron: Legacy is a virtually perfect audio-visual experience; it only requires a serviceable, relatable plot that allows the viewer to project and feel further immersed to maximize the audio-visual impact and characters that are just likable enough that you’re invested in their eventual fate. It accomplished both of these things, with a traditional romance with attractive leads and a fish out of water hero’s journey and themes of fatherhood and patristic connection. Ergo, a near perfect film.

The permenance code is some dumb bullshit made up by the ares writer legacy made it clear they would survive easily in the real world the issue was if sending a fucking battleship throw the machine would destroy it causing them to be stuck/all die if it damaged the server of if clu got out he could trap them in there forever and start working on attack the real world.

You retards keep trying to apply dumb shit from Ares on the previous movies and it's fucking retarded

History repeats itself. Disney does not know how to appeal to male audience. Never has. They spent a fortune to buy IPs with built in male audience and in little over a decade lost them
