a practical guide for growing as a person and connecting to your inner being. Though if youre an atheist and dont believe we have a soul then you will interpret it as meaningless or fanciful analogy and it will largely go over your head. Which is the disconnect I find when discussing this movie. For example with David Lynch, not saying he is comparable to Jordo just for the sake of analogy, Lynch literally believes in the things he depicts. He uses visual metaphor to express things he actually literally believes in. But most of his audience and fans are atheists so they interpret all his movies as "dreamlike" metaphors for processing emotions and miss the spiritual analogues altogether.

I've seen this horseshit 10 years ago, didn't understand a thing, and promised myself I'll never watch any obscure/experimental/psychdelic/hippie/hipster movie ever. My advice is: Just forget it. The filmmakers and actors were probably high as fuck and the result has zero cultural value.

You don't need to be on drugs to understand the moral that the journey itself was the spiritual enlightenment or "Holy Mountain" the mystic characters had been seeking all along. They spell that out very explicitly in the last fourth wall break. It's not actually that deep.
