Konami's adaptation of Edens Zero looks pretty good. The demo is a bit confusing because it randomly skips around parts of the game. But it's a pretty pitch perfect adaptation of the anime/manga. And the gameplay doesn't suck.

The demo has save carry-over to the main game. The first 30 minutes are super fucking choppy plot-wise, but I seem to recall the manga was basically exactly the same. So it's faithful to a fault, really. The pacing seems to relax once you get to the other planet. Looks fun. Good to see Konami back on top again.

Really sad and sincere story. A shame Japanese audiences never appreciated Edens Zero.

The anime is maybe getting season 3 hard to know. But Season 2 never came out dubbed in the west due to licensing issues, as you mentioned. And yea, partially because of that it basically released with no fanfare.

I don't think this game will do super well. But it does look pretty decent. I just played through the demo. Took a bit less than an hour. Nothing stands out as bad. If you're a fan of this type of anime storytelling it's pretty good. Had some stutters, not sure if they were UE stutters though.

Because Konami wanted to make it, and the author was onboard. Remember that in Japan, adaptations of manga exist primarily as ads for the manga. It's why Japanese adaptations in general are so bland and "faithful".

Production wasn't hellish, licensing was.
It wasn't a Canadian company, it was that Netflix got the global distribution rights to season 1, but they dropped it for season 2. The global rights then went to a French company. Crunchyroll didn't get the rights from them until a week after the season started airing.
There's a slim chance of getting a backlog English dub (perhaps if CR licenses season 3), but no guarantee it will get the same actors.

The biggest problem with it is just how much pop in the open world has. But I can kind of forgive it since they made it fucking massive and you move really fucking fast when you fly. That forest park in the north side of town has like 400 trees.
