What's the point of hardware path tracing when it has the same temporal artifacts software lumen has?

what the fuck, just how much postprocessing bloat is there. 70ms mouse movement feels like slowmotion.

No, this is a result of the low amount of actual rays being cast combined with the temporal elements in the lighting in order to facilitate any form of raytracing that runs at more than 15 FPS at 480p on a 5090.
Basically, the hardware isn't strong enough to do real, actual raytracing, so they still need to apply tons of tricks to speed up rendering, and said tricks make the lighting look like shit anyways.

Do they?
Too many of the RT-required games have been flopping for that to be the case.

Yeah. It's still "optimized" ray tracing, even if it's cutting your performance to 1/4. It really is that bad, and it often results in shadows and sometimes lighting that are just better with RT turned off. Reflections are a different story. Ray traced reflections look better in games where the devs relied on literally only screen space reflections, but there are games that have a mix of both mapping and SSR that look worse than ray tracing most of the time, but often good enough.
GTA5 is the biggest proof that mapped reflections are actually better than ray traced ones. As soon as you turn ray tracing on, reflections look like shit. Ray tracing is only good as a replacement for SSr.

the smoke on the gun flash takes time to darken, not the ray tracing
The OP ray tracing takes time to darken because a lit spark goes out of sight behind the door illuminating the room

Shit comes with a control panel to play with all the variables and you can make it look comically bad if you want. Even on optimal settings it's not worth the performance hit though. RT is a fat meme unless your game is as dynamic as Minecraft.
