>>712463259It's worse than that. The helmet is modeled after Nerevar's face. Even becoming the Nerevarine doesn't make them accept you wearing it.

>>712465370That's my approach. I have multiple characters currently on-going and start the MQ on several of them if it fits the character or path. I'm still debating who gets the glory of becoming the Nerevarine finishing the MQ. My time of one character does all is long over.
So currently I just long-play and live out the characters, roleplay my choices as fits the character, progressing in the respective guild/house and leveling up while enjoying the journey.
What the fuck was his problem?
>>712466091He's not doing too well. Some might say he's got a lot of flaws.
>>712465851I would HIGHLY recommend NOT taking Atronach. It ruins the game.
Athletics is also a weird one, since later in the game you'd rather jump everywhere, so leveling it beyond ~60 is very difficult. I don't dislike taking it as a minor skill but it's something to consider if you want to be really high level.
Conjuration is fine but the AI is a bit weird and the default spells suck because 60 seconds is way too long of a duration.

>>712465530There is a rumor about the Nervarine.
It is just that.
Plus Helseth and Barenziah are dead in my game so the second part wouldn't work.
>>712466425Nah, what you want to do is enchant or buy an item that summons an ancestral ghost for maybe 12 seconds. Then you summon the ghost, punch it, it casts a spell on you, this gives you mana, rinse and repeat until full. No potions required. Still carry a couple to refill in an emergency, but Grandpa has your back.
This is doable fresh off the boat with a minor soul and a common ring, and removes mana from the equation entirely.
>>712466405For me, it's The Real Barenziah(tm).
>>712466863At the end you become elf messiah that saved the Morrowind from megaAIDS, confirmed by the Great Houses, tribes, the Temple and Vivec himself though.
>>712466425Atronach is the single best thing your character can have in the game by an enormous margin. It's better than all of your gear combined. If you're concerned about spamming pots just download a magicka regen mod.
The thing with Atronach isn't just the way to get magicka back, but also that it offers the best defense in the game. When it was conceived the damage absorption part was relative to how much empty magicka you had, so if a mage nuked you with a bunch of strong spells you'd still get fucked. That's not the case in Morrowind, so you just have a flat out 50% chance to ignore all of the most dangerous attacks in the game.
So Atronach offers both the best offense (unlimited magicka) and the best defense in the game, and without any real cost.
It's hard to describe just how powerful it is. While everyone gets strong in Morrowind and it's not well balanced, Atronach just means there will literally never be a point where you don't feel like a god amongst men.
>>712466461https://pastebin.com/JpZ3HgbE
>>712466227Atronach doesn't ruin the game, just use an ancestor ghost to refill your magicka, or if you don't mind real cheese, drain Int 100 on self for 1 second.
>>712466914Drain Int 100pts 1 sec on self.
This eliminates the dumbassery of Morrowinds magic system.

>telvanni quests
>those damn hlaalu bastards invading my dungeon to STEAL my precious kidnapped experimental subjects! Luckily my army of tortured undead slaves and demons held them back until you got here. Kill their leader, but leave the younger girls alive, I have need of their flesh.
>Excellent, EXCELLENT, I must take my leave to torture my prisoners to insanity now, here take this pile of demon summoning scrolls, a soul extraction staff, and this amusing book about necromancers defiling the souls of innocents I just finished reading.
What a tone difference. Also every questgiver being in one huge room so you can take a half dozen quests at once, go out and complete all of them, and teleport back to report is a godsend.
>>712467734Using a ghost to regen isn't really exploit. I mean he's casting spells, you piss him off and absorb him. It's no more exploitative than using a summon to fight for you instead of fighting yourself, or summoning to soul trap rather than going to daedric shrines until you find that golden saint.
The drain thing is definitely a sploit though, and it doesn't even work on OpenMW
>>712470062There's also Ranis Athrys' Wild Ride that ends with a soul-extraction demon knife and four counts of murder.

>>712470062The Telvanni have literally no conception of the value of money or the worth of labor. They recommend that you just summon storm atronachs and trap their souls casually, it doesn't even register to them that most people can't do that. They give items worth thousand of gold out for milk runs. They're too deep into the wizard economy where the only things of real value are shit that you can't just pull out of Oblivion to care about the peasant economy (trading labor for money) or the noble economy (trading protection for labor).
>>712470486Did you think this was a Fallout New Vegas thread?
>>712470406I dropped it after a couple of hours. A lot of these exhaustive mod packs turn the game into barely-recognizable mush. Imagine any Bethesda game if it was made by a hundred amateurs each with a separate vision of what it should look like. Then imagine them forming warring factions. Give it ten years. Take the output and install it. You have your overhaul. That's not even touching on shit like AI textures and voices.
>>712470741Yeah, I was worried about that. I had the same experience with some Oblivion overhaul and some Skyrim wabbajacks
They frontload shit and for the first two-three hours it's neat but they never really seem coherent or mesh well with the groups of mods
I'll probably just stick to taking bits and pieces of what mods I want
>>712470540No, not at all. They aren't even close. One of them is using dev tools outside their intended purpose, the other is using a birthsign that the devs put in the game for you to use and you whining that it "ruins" the game because you can drink up enemy magic and you think this makes you too strong. It's one thing yo say "I'm going to intentionally pick a suboptimal sign for a challenge", it's another to say "wahhh this sign too good, it ruins game". It makes you seem like a little bitch, like you are.
>>712470839I recommend installing the I Heart Vanilla: Director's Cut pack for a light refresh and all the provinces, and then just browse and try shit to see if you like it. With OpenMW you can easily maintain multiple mod lists on the same install, so it shouldn't be a problem aside from the work of basically data entry.

The item overhauls look nice, some overhauls of the dungeons are nice, very nice, some are a bit too large, some of the daedric shrines look kinda shitty (it's prolly because they use custom textures that are not enhanced and stand out a lot), i also appreciate the increased enemy variety, some new weapon types (if you like collecting weird or rare weapons)

argonians should have some points of swift swim always on by default
This is it anons, this is the playthrough I actually finish morrowind with.
Aside from shitposts and memes the most I've played is one playthrough trough to the end of the Temple pilgrimages, and another following the MQ until you get to Vivec.
I've walked the road to Balmora after giving Fargoth his ring back. Walking to Balmora managed to pick up all but 1 of the mushrooms for Ajira. Sold some misc. loot and kitted up to the extent I could.
Up next is the miner quest for the fighters guild. Any build/play-through comments welcome.
Aren't you "mantling" Nerevar by the end on the game, so you are him regardless of whether you were born Nerevar or not? I don't really understand how this stuff works.
>>712494579That depends, are (You)?
>>712466091Well, nobody's perfect.
>>712494579> Abuse alchemy.> Get the tools.> Destroy heart.> 15 minutes since I got off the boat and getting the Azura cuts energy. You aren't mantling anyone. You are taking a non optimal path.
>>712494579In short, no. That's some reddit fanfic that relies heavily on things found out of game and in later games, that isn't supported with information found solely within Morrowind.
The player character has the soul of Indoril Nerevar, as confirmed by Azura, who owns said soul. She repeatedly refers to you as Nerevarine, and that Nerevar was her champion and pledged himself to her is not disputed.
Azura speaks to you at the start of the game, and the Emperor believes you're an individual of great portent to have sent you on such a mission. The former shows that Azura already has a special interest in you, the latter that there is some intangible about you that other powerful mortals can notice as well.
>Fear not, for I am watchful. You, have been chosen.>Nerevar Reborn, Incarnate. As the game progresses, you fulfill the prophecy to completion as well as wear Moon-and-Star without dying, proving you are indeed Nerevar reborn.
As to how reincarnation works and what the details are, that's up for interpretation.

>>712496381>Anus DoomThe REAL Tower Zero is Shor's cock.
>>712494579To quote Nu-Hatta of the Sphinxmoth Inquiry Tree, "Mantlingandincarnationare separate roads; do not mistake this."
One needed to be blessed by Azura to be able to wear Moon-and-Star. Even if you completed the prophecy to the letter, she could easily cock-block you out of actually becoming Nerevar Incarnate, rendering your paltry attempt to mantle him an impossibility.
Saying this, Of course, Azura choosing you might not be tied to you actually having the right soul.
>>712496849She could, in theory, overwrite the Dwemer enchantment on Moon-and-Star and choose (You) without you having Nerevar's soul. But Occam's razor says you just have his soul, since it wouldn't require her overwriting a tonal enchantment (unclear if such a thing is possible), and she has possession of the soul in question.
>>712497259Unrelated probably but do tonal enchantments differ from the soul-based enchantments we use in-game?
>>712497397In about every way possible, yes.
>>712497427How does tonal stuff work?
>>712497427>>712497397>>712497539>>712497654I guess I should elaborate. Soul enchanting you're drawing upon the magicka within the soul to create the desired effect, which is why they must be recharged or have limitations in their constant effects (recharge rate equals or exceeds the use rate). Tonal enchantments (and magic as a whole) alters the very nature of reality, so there's no need for a power source. The enchanted item is fundamentally changed, so the desired effect is inherent to the item rather than being provided by a soul bound to it.
>>712497784I would call tonal architecture the only true "magic" in the whole Elder Scrolls setting. Traditional magic makes use of known natural principles, is bound by the laws of the earthbones, and us ultimately derived from power drawn from either Aetherius or Oblivion. It breaks no laws and is perfectly understandable within universe, albeit imperfectly. Tonal architecture only works by ritualistically uncreating the laws of reality, so despite the Dwemer seeming like the "Science" faction they were actually doing black magic mumbo jumbo compared to everyone else. The only other people who did something similar were the Marukhati.
>>712498841What are the laws of the earth bones?
crt and light shaders with vanilla textures looks pretty okay
>>712499260The et'ada who sacrificed themselves to stabilize mundus and grant the world its laws. The Aedra are of a kind, albeit greater, so you can think of Akatosh as the earthbone that says: Time is Linear. Arkay says: all that lives will die. This has somewhat interesting implications when you realize that Love and Beauty are physical laws within the setting. Baladas Demnevanni describes creation as the process of the sacred (the et'ada) willing itself to the profane (losing their divinity and immortality to become the laws of reality), and further says that the Dwemer discovered how to reverse this process, so that the deaths of the profane might will itself to the sacred.

I was scared the game wouldn't click and instead I think I like it even more than Oblivion, when I already thought that game was an 11/10 I spent way too long ignoring. Shit I've still only done a few quests. No mainline, but did some mage's guild quests where I went around killing random fucks which gave me whiplash looking back on the dorks in Cyrodiil. Other than that, I'm just fucking around. Found out about the boots of blinding speed, found out about Creeper. Got a fat wallet and some assassin's gear and now I'm just roaming around talking to NPCs doing random quests and random whatever the fuck when I'm not doing that. I did recently install an Ashwalker Tent mod after looking into player homes and set a tent up south on the hills overlooking Balmora which I think's a pretty cozy setup. Trying not to do much more than that since I still want a largely vanilla experience and so far I'm fucking mesmerized. Can't believe how easy VR was to set up too, so I've done that a couple of times. Thinking about doing a VR session again tonight and knocking back some cold ones so I can get really fucking lost this time.
I'm rambling but fucking hell this game is scratching an itch I didn't know I had. I already wasn't looking forward to Skyrim after Oblivion but now I don't even know what to think anymore.

>>712503406Hard to imagine right now. Went into Oblivion with the goal to do as much as I could and now here I am at 115 hours just playing a little bit every now and then because having a absurd vampire overlord motherfucker who took over everything did kinda take a small bit of the thrill away, and I only just now did Kvatch, so I feel compelled to reel this playthrough in a bit. Especially since I still wanna check out TR and PT and that will probably be better with a second character after I beat the main quest.
Realistically I'm most likely just gonna roll with whatever I stumble into. I'm pretty much aimless outside of hitting up the Mage's guild every now and then. Works with how I'm quasi-RPing my dunmer being a quiet, aloof but well-meaning wandering eccentric who just likes shoot fireball, brew potion, and make bank. Uninspired perhaps but I feel like it injects a subtle undertone of comedy into everything. Just wanna bang my drum. If you have any suggestions for another faction that's fun to roll through though, I'll bite.
>>712505592>eccentric dunmer mageCheck out House Telvanni
>>712505592They're all pretty decent. Especially with TR adding a bunch of questlines for most of the factions (no main quest for TR, that's reserved for vvardenfell for now).
If you're going to play TR, there's so much content I'd definitely do it across a few characters.
For example I did a smooth-talking thief archer type, which covered Thieves Guild, House Hlaalu, East Empire Company etc.; an imperial fighter type which covered Fighters Guild, Imperial Legion and Cult; and now I'm doing a battlemage which will go through Mages Guild and Temple stuff for the most part.
I usually let my desired factions kind of steer my character build and I mostly stick to raising my Major/Minors instead of just training everything up and completing all factions, which I've done plenty

>>712507185Factions in Oblivion no longer having favored skills that need to be at x level to continue rank advancement definitely made me feel similarly, why not just do everything. Though if you spam train your misc skills you can effectively do the same thing in Morrowind. Except for the Great Houses: they're mutually exclusive.
>>712507772There are more things that are mutually exclusive too actually, to a lesser extent. The Thieves and Fighters Guilds have massive conflicts, and the Mages and Telvanni have significant ones as well.
I don't think the Temple and Cult actually do but roleplay-wise you should really only do one.

Lorkhan's plan is to trick the gods into building Nirn(a SUPER Numidium) which he'll pilot to unmake reality itself.
The Dwemer figured this out and how he was planning on doing it, and then figured THEY could do it instead!
They used the heart's power to control the earth bones in order to undo and control them, effectively warping and bending the laws of reality. Then they used this power to turn themselves into a singular god in microcosm of Lorkan himself, but with them in control instead of him.
The biggest most notable feature of all dwemer technology is it's imperviousness to time, and the biggest most notable feature of numidium is causing massive time anomalies. Both effectas are caused by the same tonal architecture, the dwemer removed themselves from time by turning themselves into brass. This is how numidium, even after being destroyed several time, remain undestroyed, how there are multiple of it at once, etc...
It also explain how the tribunal and dagoth ur became immortal, they just applied the enchantment to their own bodies instead of an automata.

That seems to be the case in Narsis, where the deeper levels of the Hlaalu tomb have mummies displayed with their panoply in niches, rather than the cremated remains and ash pits of 'modern' tradition.

>>712548842Wrong. The whole thing is assembled from a handful of sources that're pretty obvious with the right background. Don't look into it too much, though, once you start recognizing the components the whole loses a lot of its charm. Come to think of it, it's a lot like discovering there are Pokemon references: the secondary world loses a bit of credibility every time you find something from ours in it.

Then a nigga with a weak drain health spell will excise your entire bloodline in one hit with no warning. >>712478548Christian/Islamic faith draws a lot from Plato's Theory of Forms in that their definition of God isn't just some omnipotent wizard dude, but the platonic ideal of a thinking being without any imperfections such as mortality, being an uninterrupted stream of consciousness whose endless light is some component vital in the anchoring of reality.
There isn't really an equivalent to that belief in Nirn, even the monotheistic faiths postulate the Godhead is a sleeper who doesn't have absolute control over the dream. Maybe the Skaal and their perception of the All-Maker is in a proto-monadic phase, but they commonly debate amongst themselves the All-Maker's identity, conflating them with other gods like Alduin, Lorkan, and Sithis.

>>712561140The later Abrahamics had to construct their theology around the fact that there is no way for the casual believer to actually perceive God or the things He is doing, as by that time most natural phenomenon were understood to be caused by potentially explainable forces, which leaves little room to see the actions of the divine in everyday life. People in TES don't have this problem as their gods are actually real and their actions are well documented. You can leave your house at any time and go have a miracle performed on you by a priest in TES.

>>712561854>>712562219Anon, I feel you. All the "instructions" don't take into account that players play with Mod Organizer 2. Apparently only minority (?) of players use it. Here is how you need do do it with MO2:
1. Download and install grass plugins.
2. Check "on" both mods (list on the left) and plugins (list on the right).
3. Close MO2 and open it again.
4. Run MGE XE opening it from MO2 (important).
4. Generate distant land. Use "use current load order" for choosing plugins.
5. Generate. It took about 20 minutes for me.
6. When it's done, in MO2 leave mods (left) "on" but check plugins (right) "off"
7. Your grass just works
